Default How many calories do you think this would be?

I went to a chinese cafe for lunch. I got a veggie stir fry and asked them to make it with very light oil. The veggies were broccoli, calliflower, snap peas, carrots and bamboo shoots. The sauce was just a garlic sauce that was not sweet at all.
I had about 1/8 C white rice with it...I know how many calories the rice would be, but since I don't know exactly what the sauce was how would you figure it out?

No more than 400 max, depending on oil and sauce. But it easily could come in around 300 or even under if not too much oil or sauce was used. 1 tablespoon of oil is around 100 calories.

Thanks! That's kinda what I was thinking too.

I'm not sure whether those counts are accurate or not. I'm also not sure I could estimate 1/8 cup of rice--that sounds like a measured tablespoon full.

How much of the vegetable mixture did you have? 1 cup?

Even sauces that don't taste sweet often have sugar in them, and they do have oil. And expect to retain water from the salt.

It's tricky to eat at Chinese/oriental restaurants. I tend to avoid them, or I get steamed, grilled, or baked items without sauce.

Probably you're OK estimating 400 cals, but I'd say you wouldn't want to go there frequently while on your weight loss plan.

I did that too...at Mongolian grill. It was all veggies, with some chicken. I told the guy no oil, and added some garlic. It was amazing! I logged the rather large plate at 250 calories. I did not have any rice, but I had 3 pieces of Sushi. It was pretty funny to see me counting sushi rolls.
Very satisfying. Oh, and if you eat with chopsticks, I think you eat slower....and your body is fooled by the size of your plate.

yes it was only about 1/8 of a cup. Serisously! I only took a few grains a few times with my veggies.

It was about a cup of veggies. And the fact that the veggies were not soak in sauce I do belive that it was not many calories. I acutally think there was no more than 200.

Chinese food usually has a lot of sodium in it.

1/8 of a cup is 2 Tablespoons, actually.

I do agree that the sauce probably had oil and sugar in it, even if it didn't taste sweet. Most all Chinese sauces that you buy at the store in jars contain oil, sugar, and a ton of salt. If it wasn't drowning in sauce you are probably okay though.
