Unhappy What am I doing wrong?

Ok, so I have been calorie counting for a week now. The first 3 days I was eating 1200 hundred calories and then I read on here that to few could hurt you so I went up to 1500 for the last 4 days. I have a 2 year old that I chase around all day and I have gotten on the treadmill 1 time. (I know I need to excerise more.) I have been drinking tons of water. Well today I weighed and I have only lost 1 freaking pound.

Am I doing something wrong?

Are you counting accurately?
Are skipping counting anything?
Are you retaining water because of TOM or excess sodium?

They say that 1lb is equal to a 3500 calorie deficit. That means you will have to create a 3500 calorie deficit to lose 1lb. That can take 3-4 days for some people. I create about 1200 calorie deficit every day.

Can you post your current weight, height, and a general idea of what you've been eating for the past week?

A pound in a week is great! Congratulations! Please don't feel discouraged by that--healthy weight loss is 1 to 2 pounds per week.

You're not doing anything wrong. Be sure you track ALL of what you eat, and try to get in more exercise. I know it seems like a kid can run you ragged, but it's not the same as sustained walking on the treadmill or an elliptical.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess I was just expecting to lose a little more.

I didn't even think about the sodium. I love salt and salt EVERYTHING! I guess I need to quit doing that huh?

I'm 25 I weigh 170and I am 5'5. I have been eating different fruits, baked chicken, turkey sandwhichs, cottage cheese with wheat thin crackers. I haven't drank anything but water.

I just got off of the treadmill and I will do it everyday. I am tired of this dang fat and want it gone.

You have a determined attitude, so it Will go.

Salt is a demon for holding onto waterweight; and I can't eat store-bought bread without my ankles sucking in water like a drought's coming.

Yes, sodium will have a HUGE impact on water retention. You can choose to ignore it if you want, since you can burn fat just fine while retaining water, but since most people like to see results on the scale, you might want to keep an eye on it. It's not just putting table salt on foods, either... deli meat, canned and frozen food, restaurant food, and alcohol can all have a big effect on water retention. It drives me nuts. I've been very careful about sodium and drinking plenty of water for the past 5 days, and the plateau I've been on for the last 3 weeks is just vanishing, I've lost 3 pounds of water weight in the last 5 days. Instead of salting my food, I've been using AlsoSalt (butter flavored) on things like broccoli and baked potatoes. It's not as good as the nice kosher salt I was using, but it's better than nothing while I work on getting all this weight (water and fat!) off.

I think I have a bottle of Ms. Dash buried in that back of the cabinet. I'll bring that out to use.

I do have a very determined attitude. I swore last summer that I wouldn't be fat this summer and well here it is summer and I am fat.

I think I may have hubby hide the scale so that way I can't weigh myself 5700 times a day. Really, when it boils down to it I don't care about the numer on the scale. I just want to feel good about myself and have clothes that fit without a roll hanging over the top.

One pound in 4 days is not bad at all. I think the only reason (and this is just a guess because I don't know what else to think) that I let go of so much in a matter of 3-4 days is because I was working out soooo much but not taking in enough calories. Increasing them allowed my body to get out of the "storage mode" and uncovered the work I had done already.

This morning I was the same as yesterday, minus just a couple of ounces.

And just like someone else said, running after a child is a little different. You need to get your heart rate up and going for a sustained amount of time. There are online heart rate calculators that will help you find your "zone" for fat burning. It will come off.
