Default waffle toppings

I'm making whole wheat waffles tomorrow morning, as a post Valentine's Day special treat. Can anyone suggest any low calorie toppings? I normally just use fruit, but I was hoping to come up with something more creative. I must say thought that this is one of those times that I wish I was in my pre-healthy eating period so the chocolate chip/ice cream route would be in order!

I don't think the dark-mini chocolate chips are SO bad -- if you count them in!

You could do a low-fat whipped toping and sprinkle with the chocolate chips....with some fresh strawberries.

I sometimes put dark chocolate mini-chips in my oatmeal! It has to be healthier than butter....not so fattening if you just use a few and the dark ones add extra flavor!

I've been using mixed berries and low fat vanilla yogurt.

I splurge and make ww waffles a couple times a month (on a weekend usually.) I typically top 1 waffle with 1T of peanut butter and 1T of maple syrup. Yes, it's heavier in calories than my typical breakfast, but I have a lighter lunch and don't snack as much on waffle days. It's worth it to me. Whatever you use, make sure you measure it!

I try to eat natural foods as much as possible, so for syrup I only use 1/8 cup of pure maple syrup at 105 calories on top of my Kashi or Van's waffles. My husband likes molasses or agave nectar.

I buy something at wegmans called Jammin'. It's basically an organic fruit spread. I love the raspberry one on waffles or pancakes (or anything). I think it has 20 cal per tablespoon.

This is delicious and you get some fruit to boot.

Berry Fruit Sauce
12 ounce can frozen fruit juice concentrate*
1 can water
3 tablespoons cornstarch
16 ounce package frozen mixed berries, raspberries or blueberries

1. Dissolve cornstarch in 1/2 cup of the water.
2. Heat juice and remaining water in saucepan until boiling.
3. Add cornstarch mixture and stir over medium high heat until thickened.
4. Add frozen fruit, stir and remove from heat.
5. Use warm or cold as a spread or dessert topping.

Nutritional Information for 2 tablespoons: 50 calories, 0.1 g fat, 13 g carbohydrates, 0.2 g protein, 0 mg cholesterol, 4 mg calcium, 2 mg sodium.

I've made this using pineapple juice concentrate and mixed berries and it was delicious.

*Try some of these combinations:
-White Grape Peach juice with frozen or fresh peaches
-Pineapple juice with steamed apples
-White Grape Cranberry with fresh sliced strawberries

A dollop of sugarfree jam on top with a drizzle of melted dark chocolate and some mixed berries scattered on top.
Add a slice or two of grilled pineapple on the side for colour.
