waffle toppings

  • I'm making whole wheat waffles tomorrow morning, as a post Valentine's Day special treat. Can anyone suggest any low calorie toppings? I normally just use fruit, but I was hoping to come up with something more creative. I must say thought that this is one of those times that I wish I was in my pre-healthy eating period so the chocolate chip/ice cream route would be in order!
  • I don't think the dark-mini chocolate chips are SO bad -- if you count them in!

You could do a low-fat whipped toping and sprinkle with the chocolate chips....with some fresh strawberries.

I sometimes put dark chocolate mini-chips in my oatmeal! It has to be healthier than butter....not so fattening if you just use a few and the dark ones add extra flavor!
  • I've been using mixed berries and low fat vanilla yogurt.
  • I splurge and make ww waffles a couple times a month (on a weekend usually.) I typically top 1 waffle with 1T of peanut butter and 1T of maple syrup. Yes, it's heavier in calories than my typical breakfast, but I have a lighter lunch and don't snack as much on waffle days. It's worth it to me. Whatever you use, make sure you measure it!
  • I try to eat natural foods as much as possible, so for syrup I only use 1/8 cup of pure maple syrup at 105 calories on top of my Kashi or Van's waffles. My husband likes molasses or agave nectar.
  • 5 Calorie Smart Squeeze margarine mixed with Starbucks Sugar-Free Caramel Syrup

1 Laughing Cow cheese wedge mixed with a teaspoon of Swiss Miss diet Hot Choc mix
  • MMMMMMM Waaaffllles
  • I love whole grain lite waffles with some lite whip cream, strawberries & blueberries! Yummm
  • I buy something at wegmans called Jammin'. It's basically an organic fruit spread. I love the raspberry one on waffles or pancakes (or anything). I think it has 20 cal per tablespoon.
  • This is delicious and you get some fruit to boot.
