Readytorun and Nicki, welcome to the challenge! :celebrate:

Melinda, I had that luck last week...thanks for taking it off my hands! :lol3: I swear, I was feeling cursed or something!

Barb, WTG getting a lower angle on the push-ups! I hate push-ups, but I keep doing them, because for me they're like pull-ups, a fitness marker, so I keep pushing to try and do a little more of the harder versions before I collapse in a heap and have to go to something easier. :D What FB said about your workout. That ain't for sissies! I got tired just reading it!

FB, we are not girly-girls. BBB is the girly-girl in the family! Thanks for the ideas...shooting lessons? You rock, FB! I've only ever shot blanks for dog training, never the real deal, but my sister C has. Her dh has enough guns and ammo in the house to make Rambo jealous, lol. If the terrorists or the aliens come, I'm going to their house.

About the steroid guy and what he meant by that, I'm guessing he meant that you were using some actual weights and lifting to failure, amazon! I've noticed that there are not a lot of women lifting heavy at the Y. Okay, I haven't even seen one lifting heavy, but I've seen a couple of BBers there, so I'm guessing they lift heavy. Most of the women I see in the weight room seem afraid of getting all sweaty and making grunting noises. I don't have that problem, though I do try to be a little quieter at the gym, and keep a lid on the cursing. At home, there's pretty much a string of obscenities coming out with every breath on the last set. :D

Well, some of the bazillion cal bday dinner weight came off this morning. I've missed my workouts the last 2 days, though. :frypan: I did get the taxes e-filed last night, though, so I have a good excuse. ;)

jamsk8r 01-20-2009 11:47 PM

Just checking in. FINALLY got my workout in! Did a double lifting workout, since I missed yesterday's LB day, did abs, then jogged for 20 mins or so while listening to a book on tape and sipping my protein shake. I can sleep guilt-free tonight...yeah!

FB 01-21-2009 09:47 AM

I saw a doctor yesterday about my back (not my normal one, she was booked). She said it's basically my fault for lifting weights - that women are stronger on their lower bodies and need to be spending time on the treadmill. She recommended 30 minutes of moderate intensity per day, said she'd like to see me lose 5 pounds. In addition she suggested watching my calories and carbs. She didn't have my chart in hand as she was saying all of that, couldn't see what I've done.

When she picked up the chart she was practically tripping over herself apologizing.

FB 01-21-2009 09:55 AM

Jamsta - Sooo.... BBB is the girly one in the family and she's an OTR TRUCK DRIVER???!!!? :)

S'okay. I'm a weird blend of girly and boyee. I was a certified welder for a period in my life - probably the only 22 year old girl in my state to be welding while wearing Chanel No. 5. I went through a while Rosie the Riveter stage. We can do it!

Yes - the steroid guy was probably just taken aback by lifting to failure I guess. I haven't seen any women in the weights area at that gym yet. Still, every time I'm questioned I can't help but feel a little insecure - wondering if I'm doing something wrong. It's still so new to me.

I'm more at home in the tiny weights gym up the block, but it's so freaking busy right now! In addition, it's more of a trainer's training gym - so I get in the way doing my own thing. I feel badly about that. My membership is free though, so it's not like I'm wasting anything. I gets the hookup from my trainer who owns it. Good. I buy enough vitamins and whey there to deserve a 'free' membership that I don't use!

jamsk8r 01-21-2009 10:53 AM

FB,

Poor doc...talk about putting her foot in it! So, what are you REALLY supposed to do to help your back? Chiro and massage, maybe?

I know just what you mean about feeling insecure at times. I can't afford a trainer, and the Y doesn't do the free w/membership training any more, since they brought in the PTs. :( I have had to learn everything from books and online videos and such, so a lot of times I wonder if I'm doing things right. I figure, if somebody wants to correct my form, I wouldn't turn away the help, but otherwise, I can't worry about it. I just have to try my best and keep trying to improve.

I woke up really early this morning, since I fell asleep at 9:30 last night. Even weighing in at 4:15 I got 180.8. That's 3 hours before my usual weigh-in time. If I could have slept in, I probably could have seen a 179 today...sigh! Watch, it will bounce back up today. The 170s have been so close for weeks, but I have yet to hit one! I've got a Crossfit workout on the agenda today, though, so I'll give it my best shot! TOM is coming, though, I know it, so I'm thinking it's going to mess things up with the scale. :rollpin:

kittycat40 01-21-2009 11:01 AM

Hey!! I've been staying away from you guys. Nothing good to report.

NEW PLAN: accomplish ONE thing every day. ONE measurable not overwhelmingly large thing every day. Figuring out what that is is difficult bc my g0shdam list is so long.

This is integral to my weight loss and maintence as it pertains to control in my life. Too often, I blatantly ignore all except that which absolutely must get done (generally kid deadline stuf) and the results impact me and my whole family.

and I'm 2 pounds above red line but 2days of OP eating and running can correct that. (I hope)

sorry to beetch and moan. but that's where it's at for me.

nicki rose98 01-21-2009 12:19 PM

Ok I did my strength training Monday and yesterday I did one of my aerobics DVDS "Flirty Girl Fitness"...super fun!!! I'm supposed to do some more strength training today.

jamsk8r 01-21-2009 01:32 PM

Nicki, WTG with the exercise! :carrot: I've been falling off the wagon on that one more often than I'd like, but I'm joining a challenge on the weightlifting forum which I hope will give me the :kickbutt: I need to keep going.

Kitty, I know what you mean. Been there, couldn't find the t-shirt for the piles of laundry. Flylady is what finally cured me. Didn't really like the email thing, but I just read on the website and figured out my own way of doing it. That's actually what led me to finally losing weight, I think, was just getting to a point where I didn't feel like everything was out of control, and I was able to look to some other goals like getting healthy and financial goals, too. I'm confident you'll find your way! You did the weight loss thing, so the rest is totally doable!

I just came back to report that I did my workout today. Today is Crossfit day for me. I tweaked the WOD and came up with this:

15 HSPU (handstand push-ups, I subbed propping my knees on the edge of the bed since I can't do a real one yet)
1 hill sprint (down the street to the corner, up the hill, back down, to my room = 1 "rep")
1 KTE (knees to elbows, still doing these lying on the floor, a good ab killer for me still)
13 HSPU
3 hill sprints
3 KTE
...the reps for HSPU go down odds 11, 9, 7, 5, 3, to 1
...the reps for hill sprints and KTE go up 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, to 15
Took me 37 mins. I'm getting more used to being upside-down for the HSPUs, since I did not once feel dizzy this time! It was a good workout for my cardio-only day. :)

Jaminator- what a show off! heehee. i see splitty kitty is doing what I'M doing: accomplish one thing a day/ so you guys, i mean non-girly-girls are talking about shooting! i found a red plastic tube with beebees in my garage and showed it to my Uncle who was helping me renovate my house. He said it was a SHOTGUN Shell! holy crap- it could have exploded with me shakin' it up!!! i suppose i wont be shooting...i doubt if anyone would trust me with a gun!

Well, FB i am in New Orleans today and it sunny and 46 degrees. i AM the girly-girl in the family and that is how i get so much work done as a trucker! i just point and say..."can you help me please? ...i don't know how to do this...it's my first time...i havent been driving very long..."
That's been working like a charm for the past decade!

i have noticed my arms are weaker, so i have 15 pound barbells and i do 2 sets of 10 reps a day for now. i do it when i am fueling my truck. i'm so lazy i know!

I found out my ex-bf died from a heart attack in Dec 2007, about a year ago; he was 47. I just found out from his family that he was found dead with a black face...as in i dont know why but it is something to think about...something to think about if we are trying to avoid a heart attack from obeity and lethargy! and oh yes he had grown into a very obese man at about 365-we had been broken up for about 3 years.

i see lots of new peeps and welcome everyone!

so Fb You want me goal for the challenge. i am just seeing a nutritionist and she said not to concentrate on weight loss, just nutrition.i eat the 6 small meals every 3-4 hours and it really works. My calories just turn out to be really low since i am CC and fat gram conscious.
i have lost one pants size and it has really motivated me. i have not been monitoring the scale.i have a few times but im not sticking to the number or thining about it until i get the nutrition thing under control.

i eat egg beaters and love them for a snack once in a while. i found out that eggs are loaded wiht fat and cholesterol and the egg beaters taste awesome!
i know- everyone else already knew that and i was the last one to find out!!

congratulations for all the people that are working out, walking and or counting calories!

and btw Jamslater, i knew you were a weight lifting cusser!
