January Calorie Counters' Chat
As I'm up and it's just into the new year and month I thought I'd start the new chat for January. So to begin with: HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!!!
I don't know how much damage I've done over Christmas as I'm not weighing until Monday, ha, ha. I'm trying to avoid the truth. Hope everyone had a good holiday and is ready to buckle down and do some serious weight loss stuff this month. |
Its the first day of a new year and I look forward to dropping the rest of what I need to drop to hit my goal of 275 pounds. 165 pounds gone in 08 and the rest will follow in 09, that I promise! it has been a hectic month for us around here with a new home and lots of other stuff and its nose to the grind stone time again, I am looking forward to seeing everyone reach their goals in 09.
As Ever Me |
HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone. I am getting ready for work but saw this post, and had to reply. I am hoping to loose another 50 pounds this year. I have been POP since Christmas, so here is to another great year.:carrot::carrot::carrot:
Wilma |
Botzz, you are an inspiration as always. I know you are going to be successful. Happy New Year!
|
I am not new to 3FC but I thik I am now a calorie counter :) I got a Body Bugg for Chanukah and it by default counts calories.
I have been sort of on program for about 3 weeks although the scale has not budged. I am sure it is the amount of crap around my house with the kids home, guests and parties I am not that good at passing it by AND I am a grazer so a chip here a peice of chocolate there is adding up. I am exercising and my BB is telling me I have a deficite, assuming that I am tracking calories in correctly. Anyway, I want a place to post and I will keep with it even if the scale dosent move, I pledge to try to treat myself well this year and care about myself the way I care about my family.. Happy New Year! :) |
Dxie, welcome and good luck. It is ok to experiment a little until you find what works best for you. I am not familiar with Body Bugg.
|
Thanks Bargoo, assuming you are talking to me :) I should have introduced my self as Linda, My dog is Dixie, a 3 year old black lab who keeps me walking and I thank her for that every day I just wish she cooked low cal meals that would keep me out of the kitchen grazing, but alas she would eat it all too :)
-L |
Happy New Year everyoane!
I 'm hoping that i'll reach my goal, 2008 wasn't bad but i know i could have done so much more, i lost 70 lbs but i still have at least 30 lbs more to go...and i feel that is so much harder now...i must exercise more wishing you all good luck , health and hapiness! |
Happy New Year, everyone! Last night was my last hurrah of 2008 - and good riddance to it! I just started my journey in the middle of December, so I expected no great losses and lost 7 lbs as of this morning, since December 7th. Calorie counting and walking every day!
Keep with it, and here's to much loss of poundage in 2009! |
HI...I am hapy with what i accomplished in 08 and cant wait to rid my body of the rest of the excess weight in 09. I really slacked off on exercise in the fall and have done much better since Christmas.
|
Tomorrow is my magic day to start losing again. It will be a year since I started this weight loss journey. 54 pounds gone (at least before Christmas there were). Sooooooooo, it begins again in a few short hours. Oh, and I got a digital food scale for Christmas so I'm all set to get the most accurate measurements of the food I eat.
Dgramie, the days are getting closer to DD's wedding. You must be getting excited, worried, anxious, happy, sad-- all those things. |
Hi Calorie Counters and Happy New Year.
I was on this wonderful board and had great success at losing weight and staying motivated. Then I let other stuff get in the way and well one thing after another and before I knew it...yup...I had gained it all back. Well, I've done the crying and stomping of feet over how pathetically weak I've been. I'm now back and ready for the fight. I use Fitday to track my calories. I also use Daily Plate and Calorie King for help in calculating what I eat. One of my goals to losing weight this year is to not put anything in my mouth that I can't account for. I know there will be days where that will be difficult but I'm going to try my hardest to keep those days far and few between. I look forward to getting to know everyone and sapping all the support and strength I can get from y'all. I promise to give it back when needed. ;) |
Happy New Year Everyone! Pita09-YOU can do this! I get the same way. I gained mostly all my weight back and got so upset about it, I actually started gaining more. Its a new year and we can do this together.
I had a two pound loss this week! I have set a new mini goal for Jan and that is to be 159 by January 31st. Not to toot my own horn, but today is a very special day to my life. Today, I have not smoked in exactly one year. Did not cheat once. I am so excited!!! Have a wonderful day! I will check back later! |
:cheer3::cheer2::congrat::celebrate::balloons:
Wonderful, Shannon. You toot your horn all you want. That's a tootable achievement! |
Well thank you!!!
|
good for you Shannok! I agree toot all you like!
I am on the right track today. I did 4+ miles in the snow, hit my 2 hours of activity, and my steps for the day all by 10 am! we are going to the cheesecake factory for lunch and I have the SEARED TUNA TATAKI on my mind for lunch (dressing on the side). I can't find the nutrition facts but without the dressing it should be fine. Ok off to the mall for returns and lunch, have a good one! -L |
L- your off to a wonderful morning! What motivation that is! Good for you! I love Cheesecake Factory. Seared Tuna sounds yummy and delicious! Have fun!
|
Thanks Shannon,
I had a wonderful walk with my son this morning about 5.25 miles. It was cold! we walked through the park and then decided to walk to town. I stopped in at curves and finally convinced them that I only want a winter membership. I can get a 2 month GC for 129, a bit more expencive monthly than the full year with joining fees BUT I won't waste the months I know I won't go. I also want to add I am loving this body bugg. I was chatting with a friend this morning and really figured out that I love it because I only have to deal with the numbers for today. I did well on WW a while back but dealing with the whole week was too much like a savings plan for me not wanting to spend my points unwisely and I always wanted points in the bank. I do the same with calorie counting but it is only for today, I don't have to think about yesterday, tomorrow, or next week. It has taken away the OCD of changing my life. I know it has only been about 3 weeks and I have a lifetime ahead of me, but today is well today and not a lifetime. I hope you all are having a good day too :) -L |
I have lost the 5lbs I gained over the holidays. Now time to lose more!!!
retire- your right i am getting excited and overwhelmed all at the same time. I found a dress for the wedding on wed. Its a size 18 and a year ago i was in a 26. I am wearing all black seeing how its the only thing i found i even halfway liked. It should be very slimming also. I started making table runners for the receptions. I got so overwhelmed 30 yds of fabric and i spent 7 hours just cutting out the runners.TOday i am going to start ironing the hem down to sew. NO telling how many hours it will take to sew them!! The wedding is 7 weeks from today!! YIKES!!! |
Gah! Trying to get back on track. It is taking a bit of doing. I let myself get careless while moving and settling and over Christmas. And I am paying the price. Baaad fluid retention and a some weight gain have left me 10 pounds heavier. Mad I am at myself. But, I should be able to get rid of it in pretty short order.
If I hadn't been too doscombobulated and busy, I would have done well to have spent more time here, rather than messing up my bod, again. It sure was easy to slip back into old, bad habits. Now... To slip back into new, good habits. I hope you are all doing great, on track and feeling good. :D |
Hi everyone! It's been awhile since I've been on 3fc, but between the holidays and some difficult life stuff I'm in dire need of getting back on the wagon! I've gained 10 lbs over my maintenance weight and I need to get it off! So, Hi everyone. I look forward to getting to know all the new faces.
|
I had a blow out day yesterday. We ended up stopping at a bakery and I caved on a fave. Came home found the calories were 500! I still only ended up 200 cals over.
Still OP today...one day at a time.... |
I discovered something yesterday when I was grocery shopping - macadamia sprinkles! They're pre-chopped macadamia nuts, so I don't have to chop them up to put on my cereal, they're already done! I love macadamias, but the hassle of chopping them means I generally just eat them whole, and I have sooooo much trouble stopping at just a couple.
Hubby reckons its the left-over bits they've swept up off the factory floor after processing. He's probably right, but as long as they've washed them I don't mind. |
Quote:
This made me laugh! Thank you! |
Macadamia processing plant crumbs... funny image! Whatever works, right? If it keeps you from eating too many, then it's a good thing.
Today wasn't a great day, but it wasn't terrible either. We just got back home yesterday from seeing our families in another state, so I guess I'll just look at today as my easing back in day. I have gotten a lot more water in today. I'm hoping some of this weight is due to water retention! Oh, and I didn't have any alcohol today. I think the holiday cocktails are really what did me in, so no more alcohol for awhile for me. |
I murdered my scale. I was in my bathroom, drying and polishing my shower walls and tub after my shower, today and I didn't look back as I stepped backward out of my tub and I stomped, hard, right down on the edge, near the dial. My scale flew up and crashed to the floor. The needle was stuck partway round the dial and the platform permanently smashed down. I tried to fix it. My husband tried to fix it. No luck. But, even if we could have fixed it, I don't know if I could have trusted it. I think it wouldn't have ever worked right, again.
Darn it. That was a good scale. Accurate, high capacity and easy to read. I have had it for a long time and I don't know how I am going to replace it. Drat. Drat. Drat. :tantrum: Guess I had better start shopping for a new one. And fast. I hope I can find one nearly as good and at a price I can afford. (Which isn't much, nowadays... ;)) Other than that, a pretty good day. Nicely on track and under control. I do need to get more water in, tho. Both hubby and son work tomorrow so it will be a good day to get in another good workout. I did one day before yesterday, cardio and weights and push ups on my kitchen counter. (I can't get down on the floor, yet.) I felt good and only a bit sore. I hope I can do longer with the cardio, this next time and I am going to try to do a few more push ups and a few extra reps with my weights. Right now I am using 1 lb. weighted gloves. The weight seems good for me, at this point. :D I hope you all had a good, on track day. I'll talk to you all tomorrow. |
Rain Dancer, how many times would you have liked to have murdered the scales? Ha, ha. And now when you love it to pieces you break it to pieces. Hope you can find a good set in your price range soon.
I fell down today when I was exercising. The rubber sole on my sneaker stuck on the floor and over I went. The floor wasn't damaged but I banged up my elbow a bit. But it's not hurting now so I think it will be fine. |
retiredone,
Glad you were not hurt. A little ibuprofen before bed? Well the last 2 days, I have been on the high end of my calories BUT I have also been over on my calorie burn too. I hope it balances out in the end. I did have sushi yesterday and although I did not use to much soy sauce, I feel it with being very thursty and I have a headache too. Alsa it was delishious and healthy :) I have a wonderful walk in the woods this moring, the snow is a little soft. I still have to hop on the eliptical a little later. I hope everyone is haveing a good OP day! |

I know... I had a definite love/hate relationship with my scale. But I never wished it any harm. lol. I hope I can find a good one at a decent price. Owww! You poor thing. I'm glad that you weren't seriously injured. Take it easy and have some ibuprofen to help with any discomfort. |
Rain Dancer~ Good luck scale hunting! I hope you can find one you like.
Retiredone~ Ouch! Funny bone injuries are never funny! I hope you heal quickly. L144S~ I love sushi too! The sodium can catch up to you, but after a few days and lots of water it usually goes away for me. I did well today and stayed in calorie range. It was also my first day back at work after the holidays which makes it easier. I'm too busy to think about food. |
Well, I'm in no worse shape than I was yesterday before I fell except for one little sore spot on the side of my elbow. And that doesn't really hurt unless I press on the spot. I didn't even have to take an ibuprofen. I guess I've found the secret to falling without hurting--lose 50 pounds and the fall is much less traumatic. :D
I made a great, cheap noodle soup today. I was actually looking for whole wheat noodles and a vegetarian chicken bouillon to use but I live in a very small town and couldn't get either so I opted for ramen noodle soup packages. I don't usually use ramen noodles because of the sodium and fat in the noodles but I wanted soup for lunch and I wanted my "Almost Chicken Noodle Soup." So when I got home I soaked the noodles in hot water to get rid of some of the fat when drained. I sauteed onion and celery together added water and the 2 seasoning packs from 2 packages of noodles. Then I added 3 medium grated carrots. I boiled this altogether until the vegetables were cooked. The I added 2 beaten eggs (these are the almost chickens) a couple of handfuls of chopped arugula and the soaked noodles. Yum, yum. It was very tasty if not as nutritious as the whole wheat noodle version. |
HI...its a rainy dreary day in KY and Im starving..its not tom even...I think i ate something wrong today and it triggered me being starving. I am already at 1000 calories for the day and its only 1pm. I will have to really plan out dinner well tonight. I think it all started when I came downstairs this morning and found my daughter eating icecream for breakfast.LOL She had her wisdom teeth out yesterday. Now she has me baking a cake...HELP!! I will do some exercise today!!!
|
Not much going on here. I finally got out my gingerbread house and glued it together with Royal Icing. That's how busy Christmas was! Ha, ha. Now I'll have a January gingerbread house. I was going to make it in December of course but things just got out of hand and time ran out so I decided to leave it until I had time to do it properly. It's one I cut out of dough myself and I thought it would be fun to put one together.
Still on plan but that icing sure licks off the fingers nicely. |
retire_ I have always wanted to do a gingerbread house but like you say dec is just to busy to do try and get one made. We had an exciting phone call last night. A girl called who is using same color as my daughter and is interested in buying all her decorations. She is even wanting to buy a couple of the bridesmaid dresses and the flowers. How are wedding plans going at your house?? time is getting close here!!
|
Wow, that's great. Any recovery, financially, from a wedding is good. I'm doing some cake decorating for DS's sister-in-law to be. Her parents are throwing her a post wedding reception the end of the month as she and her husband had a small civil ceremony in November. This is good practice for me as I'm going to be doing the wedding cake and it's been years since I did any serious cake decorating. I'm doing a small 2 layer cake for the SIL but for DS's wedding they want a 3 layer cake but not too big. I'm going to do theirs in a basket weave pattern as they are having a picnic theme for the reception.
Have you started looking for your dress/outfit yet? You'll probably be able to get a good deal after Christmas. I was thinking about buying one of those slimming undergarments like Spanxs to wear with my outfit but I've got months yet to find something and like you I'd like to leave it a bit longer to lose a bit more weight. I used the last of that Arugula in a quiche I made for dinner today. Very tasty and very caloric (the quiche, not the arugula). I had only a very small piece. So good. Now if I could get back on track with the exercise I'll be totally on plan. I think it's easier to get back to eating correctly than exercising, at least it is for me. Catch you later. |
I got my dress last week. Its all black and very elegant. I fell in love with a beige dress but I could get into it but the chest is just to large and it wont go down that much in a 7 weeks. I am also going to get some spanx to help smooth out my body. I wore them last year to my sons wedding and they really do make clothing lay nicer. I have to get a much smaller size than last year. Cake decorating is fun...im not very good at it. I Love the picnic theme. We had a friend do that and everyone seemed to enjoy it so much. They went with the red and white checked table clothes and all. I would love to do one and use quilts as table clothes.
have a great day everyone...oh i have good news..went to the dr yesterday and was able to cut my blood pressure med again.Im on 1/5 of what i was on this time last year!! |
Hello everyone! Sorry I have been MIA. I thought I was going well, and here I am back at 167 again! Back to basics "if i bite it I have to write it". I even started doing the 30 day shred but I guess I can't keep track of calories in my head. I just went back to logging everything I eat and every activity I do. I know I can do this. I wanted to start restricting things out of my diet. First I though pasta, but every one of my lunch meals (Smart ones) has pasta in it. Than I thought about bread. Well we have Subway one day a week so thats out too. I guess I am going to try to add more to my diet like fresh fruit and more veggies etc. Its also TOM for me so hopefully that has somesthing to do with it. It's on now! I am going to kick my own butt if i have too! Hope everyone else is going well! Shannon
|
Shannon, you're just suffering post-holiday heavy gravity weight gain. I did awful during the holidays and now have to lose that weight all over again. I have to write everything down or I'm lost.
Dgramie, your dress sounds lovely. You'll have to post a few pictures of the wedding with you in them so we can see what it looks like. I want to go with a check or gingham print for the tables but I'm having a hard time finding the material. I have to get to the city and have a look. DIL to be has let me do the decorating for the reception (with her approval of course). Must go and get DH his lunch. It's all ready just have to make sure it's put on the plate for the dear. He says it tastes better when I do it. (NO, I DON'T FALL FOR THAT.) :D |
IM sure you will have as much fun cutting the fabric as i did. I spent 7 hours just cutting 30 yds into table runners..ironed hems in part of them now get to sew them...fun fun. We could have bought them for less if we had been able to find her color..pool
Shannon glad to have you back with us. |
I've kept my eyes open for table cloths in a blue or yellow check. I want to use squares of the check to drape over a plain tablecloth. The least amount of work I have to do the better.
I've got 5 pounds of Christmas weight gone as of this morning. Yeah!!!. But then I just ate a big dinner. We had company. Actually it was the minister who is going to marry DS. He was travelling though and I invited him to eat with us. I'm so full I probably won't eat until tomorrow at breakfast. It was the dessert that did me in. I tried a new banana cake recipe and was it ever good. It's a banana spice cake that I filled and iced with a cream cheese icing and served with maple ice cream. Very sweet but so tasty. It was only one layer so it's mostly all gone now with everyone else eating it too. Have a good day. |
