Just checking in everyone! I WI tomorrow so an I hoping to see anything but a gain! Talk to you tomorrow.

lottie63 01-22-2009 12:22 PM

shannon, I used to use alli when it was called something else and was rx only.

I hated it!

once when I VERY first started taking it took it and forgot and then ate a high fat meal. At first I was glad nothing bad had happened....then I woke up in the middle of the night wet and wondering what that smell was.. DEAR GOD. If you have to eat no fat for it to work without causing...ehem...'problems' then just try the not eating much fat thing and see where it gets you.

eveel drug. eveel.

dgramie 01-22-2009 06:43 PM

HI...not alot going on here. Trying to exercise and stay within my calories and drink my water...just wanted to let you all know i am still OP

Shannonk1222 01-23-2009 11:36 AM

Awesome job staying OP! I lost one pound this week at WI. Better than gaining one I guess! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

retiredone 01-24-2009 12:34 PM

Hello all. I weighed in this morning and lost 2 pounds. So I'm almost to my pre-Christmas weight. Good job on the one pound Shannon. Hi Dgramie. Time's getting short for your wedding. Are you getting excited?

I've been flat out most of the week getting ready for my friend's daughter's wedding reception. I baked and decorated the cake on Thursday and the wee hours of Friday morning. It's beautiful, even if I did it myself. I'll post a picture when it's stacked together. It's small- only 2 cakes and a separate one to cut. I didn't decorate the cutting cake.

Catch you all later with a picture of the cake.

L144S 01-24-2009 03:06 PM

Hi everyone!
Busy week for me too, I have been on track with Cals a little low on the output but still doing ok. I did not lose last week but it seems to be may pattern of no loss one week, loss the next so I am still good :)

RO, I hope the wedding is fun and that eveyone enjoys the cake...
happy counting!

zenor77 01-24-2009 03:26 PM

I just wanted to poke my head in and say . I've stayed OP all week and I'm almost back under my "red line" weight. I haven't decided if I'm going to try to go below that or not.

I've decided to eat at maintenance level this weekend. We have a lot going on and I'll be around a lot of tempting foods, so I'm giving my self a little more room. I'm still tracking my calories and being careful though.

Everyone have a great weekend!

MissLoud 01-24-2009 11:20 PM

Hi there - I'm new.

I officially started my diet on Monday so My first weight in is tomorrow - very scary! My Starting weight is 128kg (282 pounds) my first goal is losing 5kg (11 pounds) I'm getting married this year and hope to start a family. I also just turned 30 so decide to stop putting off my life.

Wish me luck tomorrow!

lottie63 01-24-2009 11:45 PM

Good luck tomorrow Miss, I am 29 and trying to lose this 125 lbs (99 left to lose!) by the time I'm 30. (dec 5th)

Remember to keep on plan even when the scale doesn't go the right way. ;) Cuz sooner or later it will!

dgramie 01-25-2009 10:39 AM

I lost .6 this week. Not sure what is going on with my body.I do know my jeans are alot loser than just a week ago. Calories have been on track except for the fact i have been having a few to many carbs. I will increase my veggies and watch the carbs.
I wonder if stress from the wedding is affecting my weight loss.Just 5 weeks to go. I went to a shower last night held by fsil parents friends. It was nice, food was awesome, was just a bit uncomfortable not knowing anyone except the grooms mom and dad. I didnt touch dessert at all!!
retire- I cant wait to see the cake.
shannon - keep it up the weight will come off.
hugs to all

lottie63 01-25-2009 11:35 AM

Well I lost 2 lbs this week, I was kind of hoping for four but I'm happy with any loss really! :D

zenor77 01-25-2009 12:54 PM

MissLoud~ Welcome! Turning 30 was my inspiration to take the weight off too! You can do this! 3FCs is so helpful (it was for me.) Let me just say, life gets better after 30!

dgramie~ I have heard that stress can hinder weight loss, but if your clothes are fitting better then I wouldn't worry. Besides .6 lb is something! Great job on avoiding dessert! That's hard.

Dh and I saw a great show last night. If you ever get to see the theater group Culture Clash (they are from LA), please do. They were so funny! i haven't laughed that hard in ages.

MissLoud 01-25-2009 11:11 PM

Thanks Zenor & Lottie!

I'm pleased to announce I lost 3.4 kg this week - whats that? 7.5 pound? Sorry I'm from New Zealand - all metric. I'm about to go out for a walk in the sunshine with my dog.

Thank you for the encouragement - I know I'll need it - I have a tendency to start alot of stuff and not finish so deeeep breath. I've decided to reward myself with a manicure when I reach my first goal of 5kg. 1.6 to go. Its way to scary to look at the big picture of losing over 50kg!

retiredone 01-26-2009 10:09 AM

Hi MissLoud. Nice to meet you. Don't worry about converting kilos to pounds. I'm from Canada and we're metric but most people (at least my age) use pounds when we weigh ourselves although most scales are in kilos and pounds. We use metric for everything else. For anyone who wants to convert just multiply the kilograms by 2.2 and you'll get a rough estimate of what the pounds are. Rewarding yourself along the way is a great strategy.

A little word of advice to you "young 'uns" trying to lose weight by the time you're 30. You just do that right now because it gets much harder when you hit 40 and harder yet in your 50s (some say next to impossible but that's not true, just really hard). And think of all the health benefits over the years that you'll have not to mention all the nice clothes you'll get to wear!

I'm waiting on pictures of the cake from DS's girlfriend. Our camera batteries were dead and we had none recharged so it wasn't til the last minute I realized I had no camera. GF is going to email me the pictures.

Dgramie, you did well avoiding the dessert at the shower. I have a hard time with that. 5 weeks will go fast. Hope you can sleep. We've go almost 6 months and I have nights where I can't sleep for needlessly worrying over foolish details that come to me in the night season. Last night I crawled into bed very late (having fallen asleep on the couch) and told DH I couldn't sleep for worrying that there would not be enough room in the church hall or the guests. Now instead of reassuring me everything would be fine (which I needed to hear so I could sleep) he informs me that the fire department has regulations on how many people can be legally fit into one public place. I'm afraid I was not very Christian in my reply and rolled over and tried to sleep. Ha, ha. All is better in the light of day. I keep making floor plans of the church hall with seating arrangements. I have 3 sets made so far. I'm obsessed. HELP!!! I think I'll make a list of what I need to do and just work on that for a few months.

I'm lazy today. Someone give me a push off the couch and get me going. Have to pick up and put away things and get DH's lunch in a few minutes. Need to exercise and not overeat. Need to give mom a bath. Need to finish my Christmas gingerbread house. Need to get off this computer.

See ya all around soon.

dgramie 01-26-2009 10:17 AM

retire- we are starting to panic also on the number of people who will show up. The church will hold 250. She sent out 200 invations knowing alot cant come but the RSVPs are starting to cause me to panic.LOL We may just tell family to get there early to get a seat.LOL Good things its a short wedding service...
I am starting to panic over the weather we are suppost to get tonight and tommorow 8+ inches of snow. I know alot of people deal with that all the time but down here in KY we just dont get that much snow often.
hugs to all and drink your water

Hi. I'm new and think I will be a calorie counter in my weight loss journey. I'm about 215 or so and want to get to 150 eventually. I need some advice on menus and especially if you have any recipes that will satisfy an overweight husband, too that would help. Got any tips for getting started in this journey?

bf and I diet together, would your husband diet with you? I mean maybe you could jsut start cooking healthier and he'll like it? ;)

Guys need more cals than girls generally so my bf who is dieting with me, I make us the same thing but give him bigger portions (he is tracking at 1600 cals and me at 1400 cals).

One of the biggest changes I've made that has REALLY helped me is increasing my fiber to daily rec. amounts and above. It REALLY helps you feel fuller longer.

I eat fruity snacks (today I had a banana, apple and 5 cherry flavored prunes) and some water and this is fibery (new word!) and will tide me over till lunch time.

Also, I have been replacing ground beef with black beans (dunno if you guys like them or not) but I make black bean burritos and black bean chilli and black bean sloppy joes.... woohoo!

Have also replaced all the white sugary bread and white potatoes with sweet potatoes and whole grains. Also, ups the fiber and is good for your sugar.

hope that helps a bit! :D

L144S 01-26-2009 12:39 PM

:welcome:! love your avitar too.

I would totaly agree, cook healthy, he gets more, trade fake food for real food, facke foods are high in cals, tend to set off bindges and the body can't really use the nutriants in the food, and measure all the time, if you dont have pick up 2 sets of dishwasher safe spoons and cups!

I would also recomend tracking food on calorie king, fitday, sparks people, daily plate, you can track your activity too ( I have a bodybugg and use that program but I paid for it) it really keeps you mindful and I will add where I though i blew it on Saturday, turns out I didn't :)

I shop a lot at trader joes, they have some really good stuff, as I am not a great cook, but I will add it took me 10 days to get my calories down, I cut slowly so I wouldn't sprial into a binge, and NOTHING is off my list, I still enjoy chocolate or frozen yougurt, but it fits into my daily alottment.

Good Luck , keep posting and checking in :)

Starzmom 01-26-2009 02:27 PM

Lottie...thanks for the advice. He's not on a diet but I want to feed him more healthily so maybe I can feed him what I make but just more of it. I like the fiber idea and need to boost my fiber as well as his.

Dixie...I love your doggie...a pretty black lab. I also have one with big brown eyes...a shepherd. I love dogs. She's fat so I guess I don't exercise enough.:D I don't think I can handle having frozen yoghert in the house though 'cause I'd eat it all....but a cup of regular would be a good desert for me.

L144S 01-26-2009 03:12 PM

Starz,
I am totally for "whatever works for you"

Dixie and I walk all the time, ususlly 5 days a week, she looks forward to her time out with doggie friends and it is social for me AND it puts a dent in my daily steps and activity daily goal. So again welcome, Put on your coat, and ipod and take those pups out for some fresh air, you all will feel better after :)

retiredone 01-26-2009 03:32 PM

Lottie, I love black beans in just about anything.

Dgramie, can you have the first few pews reserved for family only? I don't know why weddings are so complicated. Go to the church in a nice dress (he wears a suit, of course), say I do, take a few pictures, eat, open gifts and go home or dance.

Still haven't got the Christmas runner off the coffee table. Must do that immediately before it's tomorrow.

nicki rose98 01-26-2009 03:35 PM

Hi Nicki, jump right in and post away.

Here's the picture of the wedding cake I did last week. You can't see the roses around the bottom layer very well but they were deep pink and looked like the blue roses around the top layer.

nicki rose98 01-26-2009 11:16 PM

That's a gorgeous cake retire!!!

MissLoud 01-27-2009 12:40 AM

Retire ~ Awsome Cake - I'm getting married this year, think you could send one to New Zealand? I can see it now you'll have an international career!

I just have to comment that Dixie is just gorgeous - I have a black Lab too - shes just turned 1 - Mesha. shes the love of my life (don't tell my man about that) I think those brown eyes are the only thing that can get me off the couch sometimes!

Also quick opinion . . . I've been sticking to 1500 calories and below and I've actually been having trouble eating them all during the day - do you think its bad to have a snack after tea if my calories are too low? is there a too low? I'm talking 1000 and under - Yesterday I only got to 935.

the slim me 01-27-2009 08:46 AM

Hey, room for one more calorie counter? I find that it's the easiest way for me to keep tract.l I do try to make sure that the calories that I eat are healthy ones.

Isabella, I commented on your cake on another site. YUMMY! And i don't like icing. what kind of c

Missloud, Yes you can get too few calories. Wish that was my problem, but any problem is a problem. When you get too few you don't lose as well either, plus it's hard to get the neutrition you need. Adding some good snacks will work. Yogurt? Fruit? Even a bit of dark chocolate (very good for you, ya know). Waht are you eating? maybe you could post a menu?

Looking forward to getting to know you,

Freda

dgramie 01-27-2009 09:32 AM

retire- that cake is awesome!!! I love the way you displayed it. Looks so good!! to bad wedding cake isnt calorie free!!
I still have bday cake from sunday but i will not eat it!!!

miss loud_ be careful and let your calories go to low for a length of time.It can cause a stall in weight loss.

We have a few inches of ice and sleet here.
hugs

Bev 01-27-2009 09:51 AM

I have decided to try calorie counting again since this is what my doctor recommended to me. She told me to eat 1600 calorie but I think that might be too much for me. I'm 5'3 and 41 years old. Calorieking says 1380 calories. Why does this have to be so confusing.

bev

Shannonk1222 01-27-2009 10:50 AM

OMG! I love the cake! Now I want to eat one! Yummy!!!! Great job!

retiredone 01-27-2009 10:53 AM

Thanks for all the compliments on the cake. And it certainly wasn't calorie or sugar free!! Freda, it was a white cake mix doctored up with extra eggs, oil and pudding. It was very moist and had a strawberry filling. Of course there was tons of icing on the cake as that is the artistic medium for cakes. It was way too sweet for me so I had a little piece from the center with only the top frosted and I didn't eat all the icing. I'm looking at a Swiss or Italian butter cream frosting for DS's cake as they say that's not as sweet. So I have more experimenting to do in the next few months.

Miss Loud, I'll gladly come to New Zealand to do your cake. I'll eagerly await my air ticket in the mail. Drat, you said I could send the cake and not me. :( :D And, yes have a snack after tea (supper for those not of a British background) if your calories are too low for the day. Some people ration their calories during the day into several smaller meals. I, myself, like 3 square meals a day but if I'm too low I'll have a low fat cheese stick, a piece of fruit or a glass of skim milk, etc to fill in the extra calories if need be.

I'm now on a new project making little gift bags for wedding favors for DS's wedding. Lot's of work for a wedding but I'm retired and barred in at home during the winter with bad weather and taking care of mom so it keeps me busy, if not driving me insane, ha, ha.

Must go eat some of my vegetable soup I made for dinner, make a few more bags and get in a workout. Catch you all later.

Starzmom 01-27-2009 12:15 PM

Well on my day one I had about 2,100 calories in total...about right for maintaining but I'm going to have to eat less today! It was the evening eating that did me in, I think. I guess I need to limit myself to not eating after a certain hour.

nicki rose98 01-27-2009 10:28 PM

bev - maybe a happy medium....1450???

MissLoud 01-28-2009 12:46 AM

HI all!

I did abit better today with balancing out my calories - i think its just because I'm lazy and can't be bothered plaining properly. I keep thinking I should make some of my own frozen meals - but again my lazyness catches me. Oh well I think in a few weeks I'll be wishing I have this problem of not taking in enough calories! remeber I'm only on week two!!

Starzmom 01-28-2009 09:55 AM

I'm going to try about 1,500 calories a day and started off today with two hard boiled eggs and some sugarfree pickles! Yeah I know it sounds funny but it's quick since I already made the eggs and the pickles help fill me.

Bev 01-28-2009 10:00 AM

Nicki

I was thinking the same thing. Calorie King did say that their calorie allowance is lower than others because you add in your exercise calories and eat the also. So I quess it all comes out the same ( as long as you exercise ).

Bev

nicki rose98 01-28-2009 12:16 PM

down another pound today!! woo hoo! and been OP! yeah me

retiredone 01-28-2009 06:48 PM

Hello all. I did all my exercises yesterday and also today--just like I did before Christmas. I just have to get back in the habit.

Well done on the pound loss, Nicki. That's really great.

I have 20 little wedding favor gift bags put together so far but no ribbon handles on them yet. I've got to pick up a small hole punch for that job. I'm doing 50 yellow and 50 blue and I'm working on the yellow ones first. We're going to put 3 chocolate chip cookies in a cellophane bag tied with curly ribbons in the bags. The recipe will be attached to the cookie bag.

nicki rose98 01-28-2009 07:11 PM

that sounds so cute retire
