I have a weight bag I'm trying to figure out how to work into the routine as well.
Oh cool!
I really want to take a boxing class. Like *real* boxing, not some fancied-up girlie version. I just don't know where I could find one in Atlanta. I think it would be fascinating and fun!
Yeah, that's what I'm stoked about PhotoChick - REAL boxing, kicking butt, blood and teeth flying (lol). I get all excited just thinking about it, my husband says it's scary. I'd bet there's a few places in Atlanta. My little area has several boxing gyms out here in the middle of nowhere.
I just recently started at a gym....it's been about 2 weeks now. While there, I usually do 25-30 minutes on the elliptical and then either 15 minutes on the bike or 15 minutes on various strength training machines, depending on the day.
Before joining the gym, I walked everyday for a mile and rode an exercise bike.
I run/walk on the treadmil 6 days a week. My total distance is 4.25 miles (1/2 mile warm-up, 1/2 mile cool down, and 3.25 in the middle) and I'm working on running the entire 3.25. Right now I'm at 2.25.
~Mondays: I teach 2, 1 hour belly dance classes back to back in the evenings. Earlier in the day, however, I do about an 30 minutes to an hour of strength training and cardio. Mondays usually has about 3 hours of exercise in it, give or take.
~Tuesdays is usually a cardio day. I average around an hour of cardio-either treadmill, exercise bike, or belly dance...or a combo of more than one of these.
~Wednesday: Wednesday is usually around 35 minutes of strength training OR Pilates...followed by 30-60 minutes of cardio. (dance/bike/treadmill)
~Thursday: Thursday is usually either 40-80 minutes of cardio OR yoga.
~Friday: Friday is usually 30-40 minutes of strength training, and then I belly dance on many Friday nights in a Greek restaurant. I do 3, 20 minute sets there through the dinnertime hours-equaling an hour total dancing.
~Saturday: Saturday is usually cardio, or yoga for 30-80 minutes, depending on the day. Often as well, I have some sort of a performance on Saturdays-either a festival, private gig, or another night at the restaurant dancing. THIS Saturday (tomorrow night), for instance, I will be dancing for an hour at a private party.
~Sunday: Sunday is usually cardio AND dance or yoga.
Every now and then (every couple months or so) I will attend a weekend dance seminar that includes a 4-8 hour dance session on one of the weekend days-to further my education. They are EXTREMELY strenuous, and I usually have to travel to them.
Wow I'm so impressed by everyone! I'm working out 5-6 days a week at the gym. Does anyone ever find that their toes go a bit numb/pins and needles on the elliptical?
To avoid boredom I have to switch cardio machines every 15-20 mins. I'm trying to do more classes to keep me motivated.
Does anyone ever find that their toes go a bit numb/pins and needles on the elliptical?
All the time. It's caused by bad posture and form and pushing off with your toes. I do it waaay too much.
If you start to feel numb toes, concentrate on driving forward with your heels. It helps to curl your toes - it's hard to push with them when you're curling them.
Yes, I get pain in the toes too , while on the elliptical. I have to remind myself to press down with my heels.
I'm so impressed with everyone's hard work! I have a friend who is trying to talk me into taking a class at the gym, but I don't feel ready. I watched today while I walked on the treadmill. People smaller than me weren't even keeping up.

Photo Chick - I took a 'women's cardio kickboing' class at a martial arts studio in Roswell a few years ago - it was specifically for women, but there wasn't anything girlie about the kickboxing. We did 30 mins of cardio and then 30 mins of kickboxing - we had two instructors for most of the time I was there. One was a woman in her mid twenties who was in amazing shape, she also taught yoga and a couple of the martial arts classes. The other was a late 20s-ish man who used to be a Marine. He toldus that he was teaching us the things he would teach his daughter when she grew up, and he never said 'girls can't do that'. This studio was right next door to a boxing studio, and I used to see women coming and going from there quite often. I would also see them sparring with men through the windows, and didn't see any 'girlie boxing'. Don't know if you are near there or not, but feel free to PM me if you are interested and I'll send you the info I have.
