Do you drink it straight? I have some green tea at home and I have to honestly say it's hard for me to drink straight.

I'm hoping I just bought a less than stellar brand. Any good brand recommendations for green tea? I've been thinking about buying some from Mountain Rose as they have quite a selection.

MotoMichelle~ If you can find it buy the Ten Ren brand of tea. We have it hear at our local "Global Market." We first discovered it in China Town, Vancouver, B.C. They have some of the BEST teas I've ever had from a tea bag and they aren't too expensive. They have a High Mountain Oolong that is to die for!

MakeLoveNotWarCraft~ Aside from the evils of aspartame, studies are showing that diet sodas can contribute to weight gain for a variety of reasons. It's thought that your body craves sweets more when you drink diet soda because your body "tastes" sweet, but doesn't get the insulin response. In other words, they confuse your body.

I have "Tropical Green" green tea from Harney & Son's - I recognize that it is a very high quality green, I just have a hard time liking it. What do you guys use to flavor your greens?

I do have a green tea/flower blend and a green/black/flower blend that I like a lot, it is just the straight up green I have trouble with...

For all you diet soda drinkers, here is a few of my experiences with it before I stopped drinking soda all together.

I had been drinking diet soda for about 6 years - during that 6 years, I constantly got migraines. And I mean, constantly... now that I have stopped altogether, it's been a month or so since my last HUGE migraine.

My doc also told me that the ingredient they use for sweetener is in BOLD in any diet product that uses it because at a certain temperature, that crap is poison.

Sorry if I am repeating things that have already been said on this tread...

I quit soda cold turkey 7 months ago and haven't looked back. I had been highly addicted. I was only drinking water for the first 6 of those months, so it got mighty boring. I recently had a great moment where I realized that I could drink Kool-Aid with Stevia as sweetener, and not add any calories to my day or be harmed by the sweetener since it's natural.

Oh the flavors! And I don't have to feel guilty about it at all.

Yeah, me too - years of diet coke, to the point I drank more than 2 liters a day.

Early this summer, I made the switch to iced green tea (Zenor77 - TenRen is a great brand - found it in Chinatown in NYC several years ago), and during the summer, I flavor it with mint from the garden and sweeten it (mostly) with stevia. Now, everybody in the house drinks it - I make 2 gallons a day. I found mint flavored liquid stevia at the natural food store, and will be using that and mint tea bags (with the green) during the winter. Oh, and I add a splash or two of lime juice...just because...

A co-worker and i actually had a converation about diet soda yesterday. She was obese for most of her life. Last year she started to count cals. and exercise. She lost weight, slowly and steadily. She noticed she was plateauing and went to a nutritionist in April. That's when she stopped drinking diet soda. She kept her diet pretty much the same however. Anyways, after she stopped diet coke she lost 15 lbs. and broke her plateau.

I think that I heard that aspertame work just like sugar in the way of it turning into fat? myth or fact, i dunno but I am an addict and I vowed yesterday when we were talking that when the case is finished in my cupboard, that I would stop drinking it- only have one when I go out.

When I quit drinking diet soda, it took me a month or so before I stopped craving it. Now I drink water and allow myself one glass of decaf iced tea sweetened with Splenda each day. Oh, and I now crave the water!
