Anyone just use a plain old notebook to count calories?
I look in websites to get entree calories, look at the nutritional info on my food I prepare at home, and just keep a tally of my daily intake on my little notebook I keep in my purse. Best thing I ever did!
Im a huge technology/data geek. If I had to write down and total up by hand everything I made and ate, I'd never do it.
For me, the computer is perfect. I'm online most all day anyway, and I can enter things from a database and see totals and percentages and all kinds of things - automatically.
I use the old-fashioned kind of spiral notebook. Got 10 of them for $1.00 at Office Max last fall. They're like a lifeline 'cause I "journal" EVERY single day.
I also use a notebook. I find it more time consuming to try to plug everything into the computer ( I have dial up. UGH). I do use those site to let my know hoe many calories are in something so I know how much to write, but that's about it
I am a notebook user, too. I have used the online method but prefer the notebook as I can carry it with me and use it anytime. I think it actually takes less time with the old pen and paper method.
It is just a matter of personal preference.
Yep, I use a binder with plain ol' paper in it. I write down how many calories I've had, what exercise I've done, and even use it as an actual journal about my weight. I use a binder because I like to take clippings from magazines and such of thin women and put them in the binder as thinspiration.
I don't have internet access at work (I'm a lab rat) and so I just use good ol' pen and paper. I bought a cute blue/green/chocolate note book that I keep on my kitchen counter, then I have a smaller matching one that I carry in my purse for those things I might forget before I get home. I have a column for food description, calories and then I also tally up how many 20 oz bottles of water I drink and record how many minutes on my elliptical machine.
I am a paper and pen food journaler. (Is that even a word? ) I use a legal pad in a very nice portfolio that my husband got for work, but never used, so he gave it to me. It has a built in calculator and pen holder so it is easy for me to log my food and drink and keep a running total through the day. I could use one of the Internet food tracking sites or tools, but I really like having my journal beside me. The act of writing everything down and adding it up works best to keep me aware and on track.
I use a small black moleskin notebook (Barnes and Noble) -- it's portable and inconspicuous. In the front few pages 'Ive written lists of foods I eat frequently along with their calories (I also have the Calorie King calorie count book and use on-line sources). Each day I write down food eaten, supplements taken, exercise completed and water drunk. On the last few pages I have notes from different sources I've read, such as high-intensity interval training routines, Basal Metabolic Rate forumla, etc.
I used The Daily Plate for awhile, but didn't like it as much as just using a notebook. The Daily Plate did help give me a sense of carb-pro-fat percentages I was eating though, which was helpful.
I just started today (yahoo!) but I am using a mini spiral notebook divided in 4 subjects. I liked the idea of the subject dividers b/c in my mind it's almost like chapters so I can look back and say "let's see what this past chapter was like." The idea of viewing my journaling and weight-loss journey daily seemed really overwhelming. I use the computer all day at work so I like the idea of physically writing my caloric intake; it helps to really make it stick in my mind.
