Default FitDay Ads

Have you seen FitDay recently -- the online version is filled with very large ads. It's very distracting. I'm almost considering buying the downloadable version (which maybe is what they're trying to get people to do). I just wonder why all of a sudden they have all of these ads?

Those of you who bought the PC version -- how is it different/better than the online version (other than the ads lolol)?

I never used the online version--I bought the downloaded version right away. I don't want viewing/entering my data to depend on internet access.

I don't really know all the differences, but you can add custom foods to the downloaded one--as many as you like. Can you do that with the online one? And I think the Weight Goal section is somewhat different.

I hope some other posters have experience with both versions.

I never understood why they didn't have ads. It must be a very expensive service to operate. I wondered if it was backed by investors in anticipation of future billable services or products, which isn't an unusual business practice. Maybe it didn't pan out and now it's necessary to run ads to stay alive.

I use the PC version and have used it for two years and like it much better than the free version.

Either way, free for us doesn't mean free for them to offer.

I like the PC version. It's been a while since I used the online version, but one of the things I like is the ability to reorder your food, copy and paste, and things like that. I have some standard breakfasts and snacks, so it's very simple to copy Wed's breakfast to Fri. I don't want to create a custom single they're not always exactly the same, but it makes it simpler. I can also quickly tweak the day's info if I need to make a quick change (like yesterday morning I forgot the snack I had planned and it took about 10 secs to adjust the rest of the day).

Its been a while since I've used the online version, but I remember when I first started using the PC version, I loved how much easier it was to create custom foods. You could create it by dropping and dragging a list of ingredients, I've forgotten how you did it on the online version, but I was very happy with the difference. It also has many more reports, with charts and graphs that you can customize the date for. You can only go back about a month on the online version. I can compare my nutritional information from any period of time. Another difference is that there are more options customizing metabolism (not that it's neccesarily correct. ) You can track your body measurements, which is an addition from online fitday.

I use firefox as my browser, so I never see any ads at all (on fitday or any website.) Firefox blocks them. It's free to download too.

EDIT: I don't use a PC, so I can't buy it. They don't have a version for Macs.

I like the ease of adding custom foods, and all of the reports of the PC version. I take my laptop when I travel just to enter in my Fitday data. No internet connection needed.

I bought mine a week after starting the online version due to advice here on 3FC. The downside of moving to it is that you can't import your online data. So you are starting fresh.

I use the free version - I always fgured they sold the data for marketing research or something. I have no problem entering custom foods - but I've never tried the download version. The ads have gotten bigger lately...but hey, I'm not paying anything for the service otherwise.

I ike that I can access my account from multiple pc's (home and work)- I think if I was on the download version this would be more of a pain.

I've used both the online and the PC version--I decided to invest in the PC version after awhile because hey, I loved their product and why not spent a small amount of money on it? I LOVE the PC version--it's great! It's almost always an open program for me, so I can add foods as I go through the day, or plan the next day's menu in advance. I enter my weight into it in the mornings, and track my measurements--it's excellent and I would definitely suggest using it!
