So I really want to be at 190-195 for that weekend. Don't know if that's possible. Yesterday, my official weigh in day I was the same (210), this morning I was 208 and this afternoon I'm 206-207 BUT I'm also now sick and having some not so fun issues to deal with. Didn't work out today and if i don't feel too well tomorrow I'm skipping too buuut tomorrow is upper body weights so i should be able to do it even if I'm still sick. Sorry I've only posted once before. Sounds like everyone is doing pretty well! Congrats!

jamsk8r 04-06-2008 09:52 PM

FB, you should look at both of them again, and see which one feels most comfortable. The steroid guys are probably friendlier than they look, and it can't hurt to have friends like that! The Y usually has kid memberships, if your son is old enough to go on his own, then you could join the gym for yourself, if you like it better. Anyway, good luck with that! (ps, I'd personally go for the treadmill, but I'm addicted to running, so I'm probably biased...also, I'd very likely put the dogs on it to wear them out when the weather is like it is today, raining sideways!)

Maggie, you just never know, so go for it! Good luck with your goal! :carrot:

Switzie6 04-07-2008 05:29 PM

Down another lb. My mother's day goal maybe a bit high but I'm still keeping it the same. It will push me to stay on track but I won't be heart broken if I don't make it. Any amount lost is a victory :)

blueyedlvrgirl 04-07-2008 07:48 PM

I am readjusting my calorie ranges right now, so I am trying to give myself some time before weighing. I will weigh in on Friday and let everyone know how I am doing. I got my first notice on Friday! My very fit co-worker told me I look like I am getting skinnier. It was nice to hear! LOL. Keep up the good work everyone!

jamsk8r 04-08-2008 01:44 AM

Irish, love the new avatar! Did you get a haircut, too?

Switzie, congrats on the weight loss! I'm with you...anything is good right now!

Blue, I'm glad someone noticed! You totally deserve it!

Horo 04-08-2008 11:29 AM

Hey gals, I haven't posted for a while so I thought I'd check in to simply report being on track... I'd mention weight if it weren't for the fact that I haven't weighed myself for a while, and am going to try to keep from weighing myself as long as I can. (I found that I was getting obsessive recently) :)

Great job and keep up the good work to all of you :cb:

dgramie 04-08-2008 02:25 PM

Irish..I have been thinking about you and wondering when is idol? Good luck at it and know we are all rooting for you!!I know you are going to look awesome and sound wonderful!!

Daffy29 04-08-2008 03:11 PM

We are getting to be quite a crowd here, and I think that's great. I was away and internet-less for a few days (:yikes:) While I did read through all the posts (;) Cheryl), there's no way I could keep track of all the new 'enrollments' and all the pounds being shed. So I'm going to offer a global pat on the back, instead:

Setting a goal is so important in any process of 'getting there'...after all, if we don't set goals, how do we know where we want to go, and measure any progress? We may not all reach our short-term goals, but from what I've read, we're all headed in the right direction. So, I offer up a :grouphug: to all.

As for myself, some emotional issues :stress: got me off-track briefly and I had two horribly off-programme days, and one very off-program day while at the cottage. I stepped on the scales this morning and had stayed the same. I am now back on track and consider this one a 'freebie'. I do not plan on tempting fate in this manner again anytime soon.

FB 04-08-2008 03:15 PM

Irish- your hair is totally cute!
Layri- I know scale obsession, all too well. Ugh.
Blue- Yay! A notice! I bet it feels wonderful!
Switzie- you're right- any weight loss is a victory. I'm going into this challenge with the same mindset. While I may not lose the 20 pounds, I'll be closer than I was at the start.
Jam- The steroid guys are all very nice people, although they're really into steroids. I don't care about that, as I know it won't start a steroid habit for me, I just worry about how out of place I'll feel in the midst of all that testosterone buffness. I'm leaning towards that gym though because it doesn't require a contract, my neighbors are super nice people who will hook me up and it's very intimate versus the Y. The guys are cute too :smug:

ETA:
Ti'an- you posted while I was, don't want to leave you out! It's incredibly fortunate you didn't fall far off track weight wise- I know that can add insult to injury and is discouraging. Good for getting back on track and staying there! I hope all the emotional issues are worked out and that you're feeling better.

irishfairy 04-09-2008 08:39 AM

wow I haven't been on this thread for a bit. yep I cu tmy hair it seems either peole love it or hate it :S Idol is this saturday and I am FREAKIN out but SUPER excited. I lsot another lb so YAY!! thanks everyone for all the support about idol...and my hair I love this website :)

Horo 04-09-2008 12:52 PM

OK, so death to the "will stay away from scale for as long as possible!" thing this morning. :o I was was telling myself not to, I really was, but then out of nowhere... I was stripped down and about to step on it! It happened so fast! ;)

Down to 178. 6/10 lbs lost for Mother's Day goal, 4 to go :dizzy:

didi123 04-09-2008 01:00 PM

Hi Everyone..
I've been MIA and eating like crazy.....I've been out of control, so now I'm trying to "regroup"...I'm actually now up to 228 as of yesterday, so I'm not doing too well on this challenge.
I'm taking baby steps right now and just started a blog to help me get through this.
Keep up the great work Ladies!!!!

Diana

irishfairy 04-09-2008 01:01 PM

WAY TO GO LAYRI!!!! at least if you had to get on the scale it was good results lol. I could never go without weighing I weigh myself every morning :)

Daffy29 04-09-2008 03:14 PM

Layri: "...it happened so fast..." I had to laugh, as I had a mental vision of someone speed-undressing like some superhero! At least the news was good.

didi: Been there, done that -- haven't we all? The important thing is you're back, and we're here for you! I found starting a blog helped me. By blogging about what's happening and how I'm feeling, I have actually figured out a few things. I hope it helps you, and I'm sending you :dust: Hang in there.

Irish: By hanging around here, I have figured out that you really are having a Canadian Idol audition...I have never watched the show, but I promise I will if you make it! If you don't, I will, of course, in good Canuck solidarity never ever watch it. Best of luck to you...<fingers crossed>

didi123 04-09-2008 03:42 PM

thanks Daffy....:-)
I'll have to check out your blog

i'm in too. my goal is 10lbs by mothers day. that would get me to 156. my first mini goal too.

Daffy29 04-10-2008 07:02 AM

So, a few posts back I mentioned that I'd had some very off-program days late last week, but had neither gained nor lost on weigh-in day. This morning, I had a hint from my body that there may be news on the scales and sure enough, I had a two-pound loss. :?: :broc:

I have followed my eating plan very strictly since Monday, 1200 - 1300 calories per day, and just haven't had the time or energy for my hour-long treadmill workouts. I did get outside for a brisk 20-minute walk with the dog a couple times. I had never tried zig-zagging before. Clearly, it works.

FB 04-10-2008 03:51 PM

So yay and yay! Yesterday was day 100 of eating healthy and counting calories, so of course I weighed in- I've reached 51 pounds lost, and 8 down for the challenge. I'm a happy girl!

didi123 04-10-2008 07:56 PM

Well, after pigging out and going up to 228, I got on the scale today and it was 226. I must confess, I'm not eating right yet, but I'm going to take baby steps. I would LOVE to at least make the 10 lb (well, now it's more like 14 lbs), but I will take what I get as long as it's moving downward. I still have some things to face about being food obsessed, but I'm hoping to work on it.
The support here is unbelievable and I want to say that I, for one, appreciate all of the help, insight, and motivating words from all of you!!!

didi123 04-10-2008 07:59 PM

Fatbaby!!!!
Congrats to you!!! That's amazing!!!!!!

Switzie6 04-11-2008 08:49 AM

Another 2 lbs gone, 3 lbs away from my weight before I went of track last month.
Keep up the good work everyone!

Daffy29 04-11-2008 08:54 AM

:cheer: for fatbaby, switzie and didi! Way to go ladies!

rabidrat 04-11-2008 10:31 AM

Down to 172.5 .... lots more to go and I'm going to Disney World so this could go either way! Lots of walking will help and I actually tend to eat less on vacation (probably not less than dieting though). Oh wish me luck! I have not not seriously exercised in well over a week and feel like a blob so the walking will help.

DMPLS 04-11-2008 11:01 AM

I saw this thread and scrolled through it confused LOL I had joined a Mother's day challange or so I thought LOL!!!

then figured out I had joined one on the 100lb board LOL so I thought I would post here as well!

I had originally set my goal for 8lbs but as you see by my signature I'm almost there........we will see what my Monday WI gives me and then I will readjust my goal to a higher amount I think!

How do people eat 1200-1500 calories at similar weights that I am at? I know when I first started I was eating way less calories......and I didn't see much loss......when I uped my calories to where I needed them based on my height and weight I have seen a loss each week! I just don't get it......also, when I exercise I have to be within my 1800-2100 range or I can't function!!! LOL

irishfairy 04-11-2008 11:05 AM

Daffy: sorry I think I tried to answer you one time and my son turned off the comp and I forgot I didn't answer you :( yes I am having an audition tomorrow :) thanks for the support I am super excited. If anyone wants to listen to my badly recorded songs lol they are posted under the monthly chat :)
lost 2lbs this week :)

congrats all all the people moving closer to there mothers day goals!!!!!!

I'm the same way. I couldn't image eating only 1200 calories. I started at 269 lbs and ate 1900-2000 calories, now I do 1800-1900 calories. I exercise 5-6 times a week burning around 500 calories each time so if I ate 1200 calories my body would have almost nothing to run off of!

Den@ 04-11-2008 01:30 PM

Cheryl,
I'm still working toward the Mother's Day Goal. Had my ups and downs lately, but pumped up again. :dizzy: Hey, congrats on joining the 5K Marathon. I already did three miles so far today. Yay! :yay:
Hugs, Dena

jamsk8r 04-11-2008 02:17 PM

Wow, this thread has been busy! Good luck to all the new challengers, and welcome! :celebrate:  :celebrate:

Switzie and DMPLS, I'm with you on the calories. I just upped mine on weight training days, because I was stalled out on the scale. First, I tried lowering them, but that just sapped my energy. I'm staying with 1800-1900 most days, going up to 2100-2200 on weight training days. That seems just right to keep me energetic, and the scale is moving the right direction again.

Speaking of which: down another pound today (2 for the week), to 205. Six pounds to go for my MD goal. :carrot:

Rat, have fun on your vacation! We'll need a pic of you with the rat ears on... er, mouse ears! ;) Get a tan for me, will ya?

Irish, good luck with your audition tomorrow! :cb:

I'd better get off here...dogs are antsy to get out again, and I have other chores to finish. I know I missed some names...Layri, FB, everybody, I just got too far behind to catch up without writing a book...I'm rooting for you, though, and celebrating with you!

ETA: Dena, you posted while I was typing mine up. Glad you are doing well! Keep the updates coming!

Well, since mine is the only recent post with that info, the above appears to have been aimed in my general direction. I know that my BMR has shifted downwards 100 calories already for a 20-lb weight loss, so for, say, a 50-lb difference in weight, that would translate into 250 calories difference in BMR. I also forgot to mention that I do not count my non-starchy veggies in my calorie counts, and I eat 4 to 5 portions of those a day. I'm also post-menopause. If I'm exercising, I'm around 1700-1800 calories a day, or more, depending. If not, I work at a desk from home, so I keep it low.

It works for me. YMMV.

Den@ 04-12-2008 06:40 AM

Cheryl,
I finished the 5K Marathon! :dancer:
Hugs, Dena

FB 04-12-2008 05:24 PM

How are my fellow challengers doing? Well I should hope!

Slow weekend here, although I had to work at the studio today. It's freezing cold in the Midwest, so no outdoor shoots- blech.

Bought a treadmill off of Craigslist yesterday, since I didn't want to take my MIL's. I've used it twice and it's amazing! I love love love it. My dogs have also tried it out- (I was intrigued by Cheryl's mention of that) the chihuahua and jack russell do very well on it, the pit bull is a klutz!

I'm going to tackle the 5k this evening, which shouldn't present a terrible challenge as I often walk outdoors for longer distances. However, the treadmill seems harder than outdoor walking. I wonder why that is?

jamsk8r 04-13-2008 08:53 PM

Maybe it's the steady pace, FB? I haven't actually gotten to try one myself, for an actual workout, but I think it would be great for winter time. That's funny that you tried the dogs on it. That Caesar Millan (sp?) does that with dogs, and it sounds like a good option for when you can't get them out for long enough walks, like when the weather is cruddy.

Dena, WTG on the 5K! I did it again today, walking with my dogs this time...what a fun challenge that was!

sumu1 04-14-2008 09:54 AM

I'm a little late to the party but a goal sounds good. I picked up the Prevention Mag with the Biggest Loser folks in it. It had a 30 day firm up plan in it, so I'll give myself a little kickstart for the summer. So the goal is 145 by this time next month. My eating is fine but my exercise and my water drinking hasn't been the greatest. So here i go...

Den@ 04-14-2008 11:08 AM

Cheryl, I love that show, "The Dog Whisperer" with Cesar Milan. I'm learning a lot about human psychology, too. Oh, and I did great with cals. over the weekend.
Hugs, Dena

Horo 04-14-2008 04:22 PM

My weekend was BUSY :p Non-stop shopping on both Friday and Saturday (Half of Saturday shopping was spent in down-town Chicago.. yay :D ) and I spent my whole Sunday packing up stuff from my dementia-ridden Great Aunt's apartment. I'm tired.. but have more packing to do all week. Oh joy.

I'm glad, though, because this morning the scale showed a 1 lb loss. Not much, but I'm happy to see a loss regardless of the amount. That makes me..
177 lbs, 7/10 lbs lost for Mother's Day goal, 3 left to lose :cb:

I hope you're all doing great. :smug:

Dena, I've actually never seen a whole episode, as I don't watch tv, but I've seen some snippets on youtube, or somewhere. Looks like it would be good, though. :)

No news to report myself. Today is a rest day for me, but I'm staying on plan with my eating. All day I keep thinking, "look how late it is, I'd better get my workout done!" then I remember it's my rest day, lol. Mind like a steel sieve, I tell ya!

FB 04-16-2008 01:34 PM

I never watched TV until the hubster bought a DVR. The thing I disliked about normal television was that I was required to stay in one place for 30 minutes. One of the first series I began recording was The Dog Whisperer! Really, some of the techniques are amazing... my crazy butt jack russell is much more obedient.

OMG, I am so glad the hells of tax time are over! I was sweating bullets and making the hubby miserable the last few days. Poor guy was at the post office at 10 pm last night. Now that it's over with I can get back on track with the exercise. I slacked for the last two days because I was overwhelmed with receipts and paperwork.

No report on the weight yet! I've been a perfect angel with the food, but haven't weighed in. It's freeing, I was really too wrapped up in the scale. However, I know I'll be back to my old scale antics in a day or so once the 15th is far behind me!

Daffy29 04-17-2008 08:09 AM

Hmmm....I may have to check out the 'Dog Whisperer'...we have a yellow Lab/Bernese cross (that's him to the left, of course!) who is quite bright, and can therefore be challenging sometimes.

On the weight management front, I have been staying on-programme (and averaging about 1600 calories a day, for those who were concerned) but not exercising every day. I am struggling with some other issues that are sapping my energy and causing some insomnia, but this, too, shall pass :) The scale has not budged this week. I wondered how I would handle that when it happened, as it was bound to, but I am quite okay with it. It helps that I am tracking everything I eat, so I know that overeating is not the problem. It'll all even out in the wash.

Have a great day, all!

BabySteps21 04-17-2008 12:47 PM

Hope it's not too late for me to join the challenge. I'm trying not to aim for quick loss because I fear it won't be permanent, so......
I'm going to attempt to get 1/2 way to my 10% goal (that's 175#) by Mother's Day. That works out to be another 5# in the next 3 weeks. Very do-able  even if I plateau somewhere between now and then.

FB 04-17-2008 02:03 PM

I knew I'd hop back on the scale after the 15th! Ha! 2 pounds down, 10 to go,

Daffy- your dog is a cutie!
