PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter

  • Has anyone here tried this? Hungry-Girl featured it in one of her newsletters. I just ordered some last week and I'm waiting for it to arrive. Two TBSP has 54 calories and 3 grams of fat. Over at CalorieKing.com it has gotten rave reviews too. So... I'm just curious if anyone here has tried it.

This is what her newsletter said:

Oh boy -- are you in luck! Your timing could not POSSIBLY have been better (and not just because today is National Peanut Butter Day). While I am a fan of Better 'n Peanut Butter (also sold as Peanut Wonder), I know that it works better in recipes than it does straight, and that it tastes a little bit more like pb & jelly than straight peanut butter. That's why my head almost exploded when I recently found PB2. PB2 is my newest peanut butter obsession. Basically, it's just powdered peanut butter. Now before you get all freaked out and upset at the sound of it, listen to what I have to say. There's a company in Georgia called Bell Plantation. And they make cool, unconventional peanut stuff. Well, they have found a way to extract practically all of the oil and fat from peanuts when they roast and grind 'em down. The result is a fine, insanely delicious-smelling, peanut butterlicious powder that is EXTREMELY versatile. You can add water to it and essentially turn it into low-cal, low-fat peanut butter (2 tbsp. of the stuff has just 54 calories and less than 3g of fat). OR you can use it cleverly in recipes and make peanut buttery smoothies, cakes, hot cocoa, ice cream sundae toppings, etc. The possibilities are endless. I literally spent an entire Saturday night experimenting with this stuff and had the BEST time (it was not nearly as pathetic as it sounds, I promise). I will DEFINITELY be featuring this stuff a lot on HG. I have big plans for it. So keep an eye out for recipes that call for it. They're on the way. BTW, PB2 is hard to find in stores.
  • Oops. I forgot to put a link to the peanut butter website!!

  • Thanks, Kimberley. I just ordered some.
  • I sure hope that it is good!! My DH likes to add regular PB to his oatmeal but I would think this would be much healthier. Well, and for my toast too!! LOL

  • I order powdered peanut butter. I did a google search and found something called Nitro-pak powdered peanut butter. It is slightly higher calorie than PB2 (33 calories per TBSP) but has no added sugar. I really like it.
  • I use PB2 a lot. It has the exact same consistency of regular peanut butter when its reconstituted. You will love the flavor...it has a full roasted peanut flavor thats more intense than peanut butter (which is oily) With PB2, you'll get a TON of flavor without the fat and calories.

lol..I probably sound like a commercial but I really love this stuff. I dont eat it often because i'm not a huge peanut butter fanatic but when I want something sweet, PB2 and low sugar jam on light bread is just what I like for my sweet tooth. Every now and then, I mix some up and eat it right off the spoon if I want a little treat.

If you are one of those people who absolutely loves peanut butter then you are going to jump for joy when you try this.
  • The FAQ on the site says that a sugarfree version may be made in the future. I guess this means that the product has sugar added? I couldn't find ingredients on the site. That's really disappointing, because peanut butter is perfectly good without sweeteners. Could somebody who actually has the product look at the ingredients and maybe post them?

  • I've been wanting to try this as I'm obsessed with peanut butter and think real pb is very healthy, including the oil, but the cal content of this and the convenience sounds fantastic. It's hot where I live so I won't be ordering it but hopefully I can find it at Sprouts or Whole Foods soon.
  • Valley,

    Thanks!
  • My order was delivered today! I have to say that I am impressed with the taste and consistency. Two tablespoons of the dry powder mixed with one tablespoon of water. I spread it on apple slices.
  • Betsy,

I bought powdered peanut butter from a different site and it doesn't have any sugar added to it. It does have a higher fat content though but only slightly. You might want to google other peanut butter powders.
