After the time I bought a box of 100-calorie pringle packs and they were gone within a few hours, there's no way I'm buying the hostess ones. Although they do look good!

It's interesting that you say that. For me, the whole thing about the 100 calorie packs is that they're super easy to control...I take one out and don't let myself near the box again - portion control at its finest. I guess the fact that they're prepackaged is key for me. Maybe if you buy a lock you can get them? I swear, you're missing out ;)

I try and stay away from the 100 calorie packs. I looked at the ingredients and decided that it was not something I really wanted to put into my body. I've tried my best to cut all trans fats out of my diet, and from all the packages that I've seen, they all have some in there. Even though it might say "0g Trans Fat" on the nutritional label, if the ingredient list says "partially hydrogenated -" then they're there. It's just under .49 g per serving, which is the guideline the FDA uses to say whether they have to report it or not. Evil, evil.

I do agree that some 100 calorie packs are yummy though, as I've eaten them in the past. My favorites were the Doritos, I think.

I've purposely stayed away from the Pringles packs for the same reason. I was buying the regular-size cans before. They were my main snack food. If you were to ask me what do I miss eating the most, it's not cheeseburgers and fries or chocolate chip cookies. It's those darn Pringles! :p With the other snack packs, I can maintain the portion control. I think the Pringles would be too much of a temptation for me!

Haven't tried the Hostess. Funny, I tend to associate those and Drake's more with my childhood...devil dogs, cupcakes, etc. I've had them rather infrequently as an adult, except for the doughnuts.

Yeah, that's funny...I don't know what it is that makes everyone associate Hostess cupcakes (and the swirl) with their childhood - but I think of that too! I hadn't had them in a long time until I tried the 100 cal packs recently. They tasted just as I remembered :) Now I'll just be channeling my inner kid every time I eat them!

I have not bought the Hostess ones, I like having them around for a treat but there are a couple of them that are just too good. The Hershey Pretzel Bars and the Entemins Brownie Bites are the very best, I can't buy them or I will eat more than one.

I think I'll have a Keebler Grasshopper, 100 cal pack now for my afternoon snack.

For some weird reason, I've only eaten 2 packs out of the cupcakes and I bought them over two weeks ago. I thought I was going to ravage them within a week. I'll probably scarf them down once TOM comes in a week or so.

blueberry3 04-05-2007 04:43 PM

Wow, that's good self control! I find that they're really good to be able to throw in a lunch bag or something - that way they're still a treat but I don't let myself go too crazy.

Who decided that 100 calories was the perfect snack size! I need 50-calorie snacks. If a snack is nutritious (like NF yogurt and fruit) I have no problem dedicating 100 calories to it. But for something that isn't going to be particularly filling or healthy, I'd really like it to be fewer calories. Seriously, I only eat 1500 calories per day--100 calories puts a serious dent in the quantity of food I can eat. And, although I don't think I'd have a problem stopping at one pack, eating just half a pack is so not going to happen. ;)

So, for that reason, I never buy the 100 calorie snack packs. But those Hostess ones do sound really good, so I have been considering them. Also, I had a 100-calorie bag of graham crackers on a plane that was surprisingly satisfying, so I've been considering those as well.

I'm a big Hostess fan from way back. While they are harder to find now, they make Suze-Qs, which are my all time top food. That said, I saw the 100 cal packs at the store this weekend, but I just couldn't buy them. Like rockinrobin, I'm just not sure I could stop at one pack. I'm better not to start with stuff like this. I also couldn't get around the high fructose corn syrup and the partially hydrogenated fats. I guess I've been on the board too long! HAHA

Jumping back in b/c I recently saw the Hostess packs again and was thinking about this. I get that you want a lower cal pack...For my day-to-day it's a perfect snack size & calorie amount, but I get that everyone's different. Didn't know if everyone knew that there are three cupcakes per pack...I think they're really cute...and if you really wanted to, you could eat one or two of the cupcakes and save one for later (if you had the restraint!) ;) Yum. Early in the morning and I'm already hungry for my afternoon snack, hehe.

I ate alot of the 100 packs when I first started my new way of life. I think they are a useful tool for learning portion control. "Oh, so that's what 100 calories looks like!

My main issue is the price. I can afford them. And maybe 50 cents for a snack isn't a bad deal. But even so, it irks me that they stuff is so much more expensive than the regular non-portioned equivelents. My newspaper had a breakdown on it. I don't have it before me anymore, but if I remember correctly they showed that the 100 packs comes to around $1.50 an ounce, while the regular stuff was .25 cents an ounce. Ok, I do have a bad memory and am pulling numbers probably out of close to thin air, but there was this sort of gap.

But still, I just feel ripped off knowing I am paying someone that much to "mommy" my eating habits. It's irrational, I know. And yes, I did try the hostess and they are very, very good. I just can't make myself buy them.

Petra6998 04-14-2007 04:37 PM

I have tried the Hostess and they are alot smaller than I thought they would be. I know that they are only 100 calories but I ate 2 (cupcakes) of them and couldn't even tell I ate 1. I have decided that I will not be eating the Hostess anymore. But the other 100 calories ones like the oreo and the chips ahoy those I love and I ususally only eat them about once or twice a week.

I love the Hostess Cupcake 100 packs! I finished off my box a couple of weeks ago. I only try to eat them when I am absolutely craving something sweet. Otherwise I hate to waste the calories.

Idealperson 04-18-2007 05:04 PM

I love the 100 cal. packs, I buy them all the time! I pack them for lunch and have them as a before bed snack. It curbs my sweet tooth...I love the Oreos, Lorna Doone cookies and the Hostess cupcakes. Yesterday I found a new Rice Krispie bar that was chocolate and peanut butter for 100 cal for each individually wrapped bar. Very good.
