Oh my gosh. I went for my first real bra fitting today at Dillards with a fitter named Herta, an older lady who really knows breasts and bras. I was looking for a good sports bra and told her I wore a 36D. I used to be a 38DD and probably should have been wearing a larger size because they were pretty tight, and I could only wear a few styles in that size. Anyway, Herta came and looked at me after I had it on and said no, no, no. The band was too big and the cup way too small. Egads. I did not lose 50 pounds so I could wear a larger cup size. She brought be a 34DDD and it fit pretty well. She told me I've been "fooling the world" with my ill-fitting bras and that I had a nice figure and should wear a bra that pulls my breasts up more so people can see my waist. It was so embarrasing, and felt good at the same time. I didn't tell her about my weight loss because I'm tired of talking about it and just want some people to think I've always been this size. So here I have been thinking I'm a 36D and am probably more like a 34E. I notice that the better fitting bra really does make a difference in how I look, but I just can't get over the size and how big the back strap is. Four hooks! It's a job just to put the thing on. I bought one to see how it worked out and came home and tried it on under my work out clothes. I see the cups pucker at the tips and make my chest look really stupid so I may not keep it, but I can definitely see now that I need a different size, maybe just a different style. My breasts barely move AT ALL when I jump up and down and they are so high and sticking out!!! Gosh, I better stop this or I am going to get sensored for porn. It's just such a shock. I think I'll go back and see Herta and see if I can find another style that isn't so gosh darn big in the back, and maybe have her help me with my everyday bras. One of the reasons why I lost weight in the first place was because I was seriously considering breast reduction surgery. I wanted to try to get smaller just by dieting. Now that I'm at or close to my goal weight I do feel a lot smaller, I'm just surprised I'm not smaller than a DD or E cup.

When Oprah had a show on bras, they said most women are wearing the wrong size. Most of the women on the show needed a smaller band size and bigger cup for proper fit just like you.

Anne: I saw that show too. After seeing it I tried to shop for a 34DD just to see if that size would fit me better and none of the stores I tried (Kohl's, Macy's) had that size so I just gave up. Then today I decided to try Dillards for sports bras (the sporting goods store near my house only went up to 36C! What, big boobed girls don't work out? Grrr...). A DD or DDD or E cup makes me feel so BIG. What was I before? F, G or H?

More guttingly they wont get smaller when I've lost 10lbs, because well, 10lbs is nothing in terms of going down even one cup size! sigh

34G here, so I know exactly what you're talking about. I don't know if Dillard's carries this or not, but I have found Fantasie bras to be really great - it's a line specifically designed for us gals with a bit more on top. They are well-made and are supportive, but also really have beautiful detailing and lace work. Definitely not grannie bras! They tend to be expensive, but to me, they are totally worth it. If you can't find them locally, Figleaves.com sells them, and they have good return policy, so you may want to try one out.

Great, I'll check out the Fantasie bras at Figleaves. I'm going to try not to think about the actual size and just find something that is really flattering. After paying more attn to this over the weekend, I can definitely see that my 36Ds really don't fit me well, cups too small, bands too big. Not good.
