Smile Jillian's dvd series

Just wondering how many of you have done Jillian's dvd workout and what you thought of it - I really like it so far. It's really helping me to get myself together and get moving. For me it's much easier than following the program in the book because I was taking too much time reading in between exercises.

I've actually gotten to the point where I can do the whole 30 minute workout twice in a row and walk an hour a day also and all this progress happened in a relatively short amount of time. For a 30 year old woman who is 5'5" and in the 250's, I just find this thrilling!

I was getting to the point where I didn't think anything would get me motivated and moving enough to lose weight but this program has helped me more than I can say.

If you are the kind of person who enjoys working out in your livingroom this really is like having Jillian in the room with you keeping you going. It's very simple moves (nothing dance-ish) and will it ever work up a sweat!!!

I would love to hear what everyone thinks of these workouts.

Hi Veggiemum75, I'm thinking of buying Jillians DVD'"S I just have a couple of ?.
Do you need any special equipment other than some hand held weights. And how long did it take you to be able to do the whole tape. I'"m 43 and 218lbs, I have been walking for about a month now so I'm not a complete couch spud. Thanks in advance.

Default Front & Back workout

I have these two DVDs and I think they are way too advanced for a beginning person who isn't in tip top shape. However, if you approach them with a way-toned down version and just do what you can, i think they are alright. I wouldn't rate them as the BEST exercise tapes/dvds I've ever had. I actually much preferred the twin girls who do belly dancing; much more fun and interesting to me.

Anyway, I bought Jillian's DVDs for the same reason as has been mentioned: I didn't like having to try and memorize a workout from a book, I'd rather feel like I was working out 'with' someone. This serves that purpose.

What you need for these two particular videos, other than a set of hand weights, is a step/bench thing. I've seen them sold for anywhere between $30 and $100 at local sporting good stores and also stores like Target, Walmart, etc.

Hi Goose

It only took me about a week and a half to get through the whole workout at once but for my size I was in decent shape already from constantly chasing my 3 year old around the house and yard

And I see SmartButt (I swear that name makes me grin like a dork) answered your question about the equipment.

I wouldn't say they're the best workout tapes ever, but I found the show to be so inspirational that being able to have Jillian kicking my butt in my own livingroom just rocks! Just good, straightforward, sweaty cardio which is exactly what I need!

Thanks Smartbutt and Veggiemum, I have the Biggest Loser Tape coming at the end of the month, so I think I'll work through that one first and keep up my walking.

The DVDs are so awesome! I have all of them now and they are by far the most challenging -- yet not in a confusing way, just endurance. The first week or so I thought I would die and I couldn't even get through the half hour ONCE but you start building up your endurance and soon you find yourself doing most of it, and then all of it! I didn't lose any weight the first week doing it, but I could feel my pants already fitting more comfortably and I just felt less jiggely (lol) it's no miracle but it's damn good! I love it and anyone thinking of getting them - get them! We all alerady know Jillian rocks ... her videos do too!

Ok I have to admit though, I did the frontside once and that was it all week! Although I did walk on treadmill once and ride the sationary bike 3 times

ugh for some reason my achilles heel is so sore. I have no idea why

I am going to get in swing of things tomorrow

how often should I do each DVD? I was thinking rotating them evry other day. I have frontside and backside. I am going to get the cardio kickboxing also.

You could probably do the front DVD twice a week and the back twice a week - that would match up with how she has it in the book. On your rest days you could do some cardio. You need to give your muscles a chance to recover from strength training. For example, Monday and Thursday do front. On Tuesday and Friday do back. Saturday cardio only, Wednesday and Sunday rest.

The key is sticking with it consistently. If it makes you too sore at first to do the whole thing, do part of it to start off with...just make a habit of doing at least something consistently. You'll find later that it feels weird to miss a planned workout day....that's where you want to get to.

I purchased Jillian's 5 DVD set (front and back, kickboxing, maxamize front and back). I watched parts of each DVD to see if they were for beginners or advanced. IMO the DVD's are somewhere in between. So I started with the BL DVD and I will move up to Jillian's DVD's in two weeks.

anske,

Amazon has Jillian's DVD's and the BL DVD. If you don't like purchasing online then try Best Buy or Circuit City.

I just ordered the front and back DVD's...I'm going on vacation on the 19th - no access to a gym. But I guess I can drag my laptop to play DVD's...
