maryshady 02-22-2010 07:29 AM

Here's to a new week. Feeling like I am finally on the right path.

Hope everyone is doing well!! Hi:wave: to all

Babygrant-Congrats on onederland!!!

hsmom-Wow! great week...keep up the hard work.

Jessica, Muffentop, & Gracie- you gals are down considerable amounts of weight...24, 15, & 22 lbs. respectively. You girls are an inspiration to me. Keep up the good work and I hope to be seeing similar results now that I have finally decided to work this program and quit dreaming about it. Thanks again for the inspiration!!

Soon2BFitChick 02-22-2010 10:28 AM

weebles, good to know you know about gardening! I love it although I have sooo much to learn. I love the milk jug idea. :) I started my tomato seeds in my windowsill and they are growing tall! How do I ensure I can help them get strong enough to grow into hardy little plants before transplant? I am going to add miracle grow for them soon but last year when I tried to separate them to spread them out and plant, after that they died. :( They are so tiny and tall and spindly right now. When do they thicken? :?:

I'm bout to bathe me and the girls before Emily's class at noon. Then probably will go get Meadow's hair cut today then come home and maybe go ahead and plant my hedges in front. We'll see if I have time. If not, then Wed morning prolly. :df:

Hugs!! BBL! :bubbles:
Selina

I love gardening. Usually the plants do okay in a sunny window...it's when you add grow lights you really have to watch because the plants soooo badly want to reach up to the light, that's when they go really really skinny and tall and won't survive.

I cheat....I buy all my plants from an organic greenhouse. It only costs me about $30.00 to buy all my plants and it fills my garden which is about 30 feet by 60 feet. :) Then i have an apple tree, apricot tree, and peach tree. YUMMMMM.

babygrant 02-22-2010 11:17 AM

I'm back on track this week! I can feel it!

Congrats to our biggest losers this week. Everyone did so well!!!

I'm so proud of everyone who has stuck with us. ANy idea how many we lost this week?

Idealmuse 02-22-2010 11:45 AM

Hope everyone has a great week!

This is my rest week from my training schedule so it's going to be a bit harder to keep a good deficit going... and next week I'm going to the UK for a week!

The nice thing about gardening is it burns calories, and you get all that great fresh food. I haven't done one in a few years but I'm thinking of doing some this year.

Congrats to the biggest losers!

dream710 02-22-2010 12:47 PM

Congrats hsmom, muse, inconisedGhost, and mageorge on being our biggest losers.

I'd love to have a garden, but we rent and I don't think the landlord would be ok with it. Not to mention, we have a lot of disrespectful naughty kids that would probably demolish it.

Babygrant-way to be back on track. I was a bit off track last week to, but I've stocked up on fruits and veggies, so I'm ready for a good week as well.

Muse-Wow! UK, I'd love to go there some time. Make sure to tell us all about it when you get back.

Mary-Glad to see you back

Selina-Good luck with your tomato plants

Last week after working out I was so drained. I'm not sure if I'm trying to do too much or if its because of what I'm fueling my body with. So this week I'm trying to eat clean and instead of doing all my strength in one day I'm going to do legs one day and arms the next. Well I spose I best get my pilates in so I can finish getting ready for work. Everyone have a great day!

Cape Breton Chick 02-22-2010 01:08 PM

retiredone 02-22-2010 03:07 PM

Congratulations to our Biggest Losers hsmomx2, Idealmuse, IconisedGhost and mageorge. Good job, ladies. And a BLUE congratulations to the RED TEAM on breaking their losing streak, even if it meant we lost this week. :D

You gals are making me jealous talking about gardening and starting plants. It's too early here as nothing really can go in the ground until June after we're safe from frost. But it's been such a mild winter and the ground isn't even frozen that it looks like spring is coming already, but it's not. I haven't done any gardening to grow food plants in such a long time but I really want to have a little garden this year. I love Swiss Chard and it grows really well and easily. I'd also like to plant a few tomatoes and maybe something else. I don't want any real work to do as we'll be away part of the summer but I'd love to eat from the garden. We have rhubarb and chives but once they takes hold there's not any real care to those plants. They grow in spite of my neglect.

I walked/jogged my 6.55 kilometre route today in record time. When I started it took me about 90 minutes to walk and the fastest I'd ever done it was 70 minutes. Today I added some jogging and managed to get it done in 64 minutes. Yeah!!! I'm aiming for 60 minutes or under but I'm going to lower that to 50 minutes or under.

Well, girls have a great week and let's burn the fat.

Mercy03 02-22-2010 03:21 PM

Congratulations to our Biggest Losers hsmomx2, Idealmuse, IconisedGhost and mageorge!

I guess this has been a hard week for me, I am at a standstill again., but I am beginning to see a pattern. I will lose 2 pounds, then nothing for 2 weeks, so I am okay with that. I have managed to keep off 17 pounds for a year, so yep, I am on the slow but steady route.

Losing slow and steady is the best way anyways right?

mageorge 02-22-2010 06:10 PM

Angela, to cure that "I gotta have sugar" feeling...take an apple, core it and put it in a bowl with a little bit of water. Microwave for 3 minutes, drain the water. Sprinkle with splenda and cinnamon and a dollop of fat free cool whip. It is really yummy and takes care of those cravings for very little calories. Hope this helps!

ars 02-22-2010 07:53 PM

Hi ladies!

Huge congrats to this week's biggest losers hsmomx2, Idealmuse, IconisedGhost and mageorge! Even though the blues didn't win, we did GREAT! An overall team loss of 21 pounds is amazing!

I had two huge fails last week. Number one, I got zero exercise outside of normal everyday activity. TOM is partly to blame, but I know that I could have worked out on some of the days when it wasn't so bad. Number two, I had my first terrible eating day on Saturday since starting in December. It started with lunch at Olive Garden where I couldn't say no to breadsticks and ended at a surprise birthday tea party where there was too much good stuff...and because it's served in courses, it just didn't seem like a lot until I listed it all. I am consoled in the fact that I could have done worse...like if I used sugar and cream in my tea, had another flute of champagne, had more scones, took a bigger piece of quiche, ate seconds of finger sandwiches, or had one of every mini dessert choice...I managed to not do all that, so I didn't totally throw will power to the curb. Anyway, I still somehow managed a loss this week! I am back on track today, and I will get all my exercise in this week! I am so close to my first mini-goal...it would be great to get there by the week 9 weigh in!

Here is to hoping everyone has an OP week!

Bigmid 02-22-2010 11:16 PM

Hi just wanted to pop in a say congratulations to our biggest losers this week.

Not really anything new on my end worked out tonight and now going to go to bed soon.
Have a great night everyone.

dayoneagain 02-23-2010 03:58 AM

Feeling good this morning after a somewhat sweaty workout. Think it's time to step it up a notch and get some serious exercise in this week! Hope everyone's doing good.

Nella 02-23-2010 10:38 AM

Morning ladies!!! Congrats to our winners!!!! Great job ladies!!

TOM showed up yesterday, so that explains my standstill. At least I have lost what I gained when I was out of town... Got to work out in the garden over the weekend, so that was nice. I need to get moving on picking out what to plant because I need to get my seeds in the ground soon. I really like having fresh veggies right out of the garden. No other exciting news here.

Mercy - slow and steady wins the race!

Isabella - Way to go on the jogging!!!

Angela - Hope you get the computer issue figured out soon!

Dayone - Good job on the sweaty workout!!

oops gotta run!

Isn't it great! Pesticide free fresh vegetables and fruit. WOOT! My kids love gardening as well. They help me plant, help me pick, help me water. Last year we made rattatoille (however you spell it!) with all veggies from the garden!

Could you just do some container planters with tomato plants or squash?

Yummmm. That sounds super good. Do you peel the apple or leave the peel on?

Babygrant, I leave the peel on, but I guess you could take it off if you don't like that part. But there is good stuff in the peel!

weebleswobble 02-23-2010 04:04 PM

So, I forgot it was a new week and I had to find the new thread. duh. I've been going to my CP and looking for new posts in my subscribed threads. HA HA.

dream710, you may be able to garden on your porch/balcony/patio as was suggested...there are ways, it depends how desperate you are. Or maybe there is someone you know who is willing to share their dirt with you (an ideal person would be a nearby elderly person who still lives at home--they may have all the tools, love having the old-time veggies to eat and even more, they love having the visits from your family--but they've had to give up gardening or cut back. If you don't have someone in your family, you might meet someone at a church, senior center, etc.

You may also be able to participate in a community plot garden...maybe your local County Extension office can help you find one.

Selina, there are a couple of tricks. This sounds weird but you gotta trust me.
1) tomatoes grow outside where there is wind. They need a breeze - you need to either take them outside when it's over 50 degrees (but not in the bright sunshine especially in Texas) and let them get a nice breeze) or get an oscillating fan (the kind that turns) or a little clip on desk fan and give them a nice blow every once in a while. Not wind-tunnel blow, but a nice breeze. you want to see them dance. Not break over in half, but jiggle. :)

2) tomato plants are special because they can grow roots on their stem. That means, when you move them from a little cup/pot to a bigger one, you can pile dirt up their puny thin stem (just pinch off the leaves if you are going to bury them, they don't mind--leave at least 2 sets sticking out the top and you are OK!) and they will grow roots all up and down where the puny little stem was.

3) if you are not growing your tomatoes in the Southernmost window you have and they are not getting great sun, you may need some extra light. either you need a grow light, or you need to take them outside. You may want to put them under a suspended bedsheet in Texas, the sun is stronger there and they will burn.

3) if you water them too much or keep them too wet you will kill them. it is better to let them get a little droopy and then saturate them completely than to water them every day. Again, if you keep them outside in the Texas sun, they will dry up REAL quick. In that case, put them in a tray of water--don't pour water on the leaves ever.

4) Don't plant seeds in potting SOIL, plant them in soil-less seed-starting mix. Miracle-grow moisture control is excellent (and it really helps with #3). I also really like Jiffy-7 peat pots and they are so cool to work with when you have kids, 'cause you put the dried out checkers in water and they expand. :)

I have a balcony outside this room, mine sit on a baker's rack in the window here, and whenever it's warm out, I put mine outside where they get warmth, sunlight, and wind.

OK, today is my birthday, this is my school's "reading week" which means I get to stay home but I have 2 papers, a sermon on Sunday, and some other homework to do (plus a test to study for.) So much for my birthday.

And I caught my daughter's cold!!!!

I'm definitely up for that. I also think I need to face reality and admit that a 35 minute workout every other day isn't good enough, considering the rest of my week is spent sat on my ***.

What do you guys think is a reasonable amount of time to be working out, in order to lose a decent amount of weight each week, when my life has no other exercise in it? Realistically, I should probably be aiming to get in at least an hour a day. What do you think?

I really want a big number soon. I feel like I'm going nowhere.

Bigmid 02-23-2010 09:47 PM

Ditto. I'm starting to get quite angry at my scale, haha!

Here's to a POP day! :)

mageorge 02-24-2010 06:34 AM

I just want to know...how can you follow your eating plan (passing up yummy chocolate gobs even!) and exercise for at least 60 minutes each night and then show a gain of 3 pounds on the scale in the morning? :( I am so disgusted right now! I just don't understand how I can be doing everything I should be doing (and even extra!) and I show a gain!!!!! Sorry for the rant, I am really disgusted at the moment...what a way to start the day!

Welcome Tiffany! I didn't see your post last night, appearantly we were posting at the same time. Good luck with your goals here.:)

To answer a couple of your questions..........

When the next challenge comes up, you can request which team you want to be on, Red or Blue. We like Blue:D

Yes to posting your stats on nutrition and exercise it's not required, but it helps! There is also a faq section on the top of the biggest loser forum main page, check it out!

you could be having water gain from the exercise...microtears, they call them, I think...(tear like "rip" not "cry")

Are you on a low sodium diet?

I often had the same feeling as you, lots of exercise, eating right, than a weight gain.I am sure the exercising alone is causing a couple of pounds of weight gain, it happens to me all the time when I exercise more than 4 times a week, and weebleswobble is probably right on target with the sodium. Are you still eating processed foods? If you are, check out the sodium count, you will be surprised.

Anyways, the good news is, everytime that I have a weight gain from exercise, it comes off in a couple of days, and I end up losing for the week. Don't give up, after all the exercise and dieting is making you HEALTHIER!

mageorge, trust your non-stretch jeans and your measuring tape over your scale, too. They won't lie to you. I have found that in the 205-195 (see my height/weight and WL history, adjust accordingly) I have plateaued a lot in the last 2 months but continued to trim significantly losing an entire pant size in only 10 pounds (16-14, 14s now loose) It's like my body said, "WAAH! Sec, you just lost 60 pounds, chill for a sec while I do some redistributing!" I have noticed a significant change in my waist and hips and thighs these last 10 pounds but they have come off slowly.

Also, if you are working out, you may be building muscle (which is good), so you have to consider the weight of the additional muscle as well. At the end of the day, it's not about the number on the scale, it is about your health and physical well-being.

retiredone 02-24-2010 11:51 AM

Hello Bluepers. I had a great jog/walk today. Made my goal of 60 minutes or less. I made it in 60 minutes. I could have jumped up and down with excitement but I could hardly walk up the steps to the house. Hahaha.

Weebles
, thanks for all the info on the tomatoes. Very helpful. And a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you. Hope your day was wonderful, even with a cold.

Dayoneagain, you need to get your hear rate up when you exercise, but you probably know that already. I'd aim for an hour at least 5 days a week.

Bigmid, hi there. Hope your day is good.

Babygrant, big losses are not always practical to your eating and exercise regime so don't be discouraged if it's a pound or two instead of the longed for 5. Remember the larger you are the more you should or will lose, initially. As you become smaller the weight comes off less dramatically. But it comes off and that's the important thing.

Tiffany, welcome to the team. Hope you'll get in good shape for the next challenge when you can join officially. Let's get physical physical....i wanna get physical...(dont know the rest, either). I used to run to that one in the gym and it really has a great beat.

Mercy, what are you up to girl?

Mageorge, I think the girls have it right on with their explanations. Sometimes the body just holds on to the water for various reasons. You know it can't be fat unless you've totally underestimated your eating and exercise. Did you eat late going to bed? You'll see a difference in a few days.
Selina, waves to you. And to everyone else. Come and let us know how you're all doing.

Gone to clean up the kitchen and then I'm off for a few hours of volunteering. Have a great day.

Mercy03 02-24-2010 12:15 PM

I'm getting ready to go to work:(, everyone have a nice day today.:)

@ Ms. Retire, I'm up to nothing but dieting and exercise.:D
@ Tiffany, again welcome, glad you made it here with us.:)

To everyone else:hug::hug:

Well I just typed my reply written here and Meadow reached up and pushed ESC and it all erased. She is crying and pulling on my leg so can't redo it.

Be back later if I ever can. Haven't had time to exercise in days either. I'm not surprised tho. I'm pretty used to not having any time for me to do anything at all. I don't know what made me think I would actually get to keep exercising. Everything else has to come first. So used to it.

Excuse me. I just had to post so I could see my sig with my cold-induced woosh. :) I'm sure I'm dehydrated, but hey! claim it!

Hey, that puts me over 66% gone! WOO!
