WOW you have been a busy group of people. My last post yesterday was that I would catch up on personals and be right back. As you can see I was not right back and now I will have to add to the comments I wrote. So they may sound kind of strange but that is just like my personality so it's okay:dizzy:

Hi Blue Team,

Echo - How did you come up with eating 1600 calories and burning 1000 and how do you ever do 4100 + calories of exercise. How long does that take you each day. You must be so dedicated, even if you say your not motivated wow that's dedication. How is your studying going for you drivers test? What do you eat for breakfast and lunch to go through
your calories before supper time? How can you manage to only have a fibre shake for supper. I would be going to bed hungry:( From your new post and picture that orange squash looks good and so many other flavors too.

retiredone - glad you could get out for your walk. It's nice to see the sunshine isn't it.

Soon2BeFitChick - WTG on you 2.5lbs down and being over 80 down altogether. It's good to have healthy snacks at events that way you can munch all you want and not feel bad. What are you following as a program as I think we started this challage almost the same and here I sit still the same.

Cape Breton Chick - Hope you feeling better. Did you talk to bf yet I bet he had a great time at the game especially since his team won. That is so awesome that he has friends like that to take him to the game and watch out for all his needs too.

ars- my iron was low this time to they had to do a 2nd test to see if I could donate, but I passed that one. How is you neck feeling now? Answered later in the day. I'm glad your neck is better, have fun on the rebounder. I have been debating getting one but not sure what to do with it besides jump up and down. Is it good at burning calories? I have done slimfast years ago and it's not bad. I was to cheap to buy the pre made cans so I did the powder. Carnation instant is yummy. What about the ensure it will add to your calorie count and give you many good nutrients.

dayoneagain - it's amazing how the calories add up if were not dilagent isn't it. I'm glad the counting is working for you. It's good to keep planning ahead.

thinnerbyjuly - well it happens sometimes that you have to be off plan I hope you get back in the swing of things easily. I tend to take a long time to come back. Good luck!! Oh new post, I was thinking the same way as retiredone if its legal could you just post the same weight as your last one (mine has been the same for weeks and I am weighing in) but then post once a month your actual weight. (you could be the biggest loser 1x a month with the drop in pounds:D)

Nixmom - I hope your dog is feeling less confused now....LOL I myself would be confused getting up that early and jumping around:D. How is the no smoking going for you, has it been hard to stick with that and doing bootcamp. That is 2 major events. I have not been good about
getting my butt downstairs the last few days. I think I need a kickstart somehow.

shoupfamily - any results yet (did TOM come)

mageorge - jewelery bingo sounds fun I hope the school made lots of money. WTG on only having a piece of cake that you made and could count.

doragone - I hope you feel better soon. WTG on the 2lbs gone:carrot: Oh and another 2lbs down that's awesome:carrot: Tha't about the only thing good about being sick. Keep sleeping on the couch if it at least helps you to rest. Feel better soon:hug:

Mercy03 - Good for you for being back on track with the exercising....can you give me a shove. WOW another 2.5 down:carrot: I think I need to get myself to the gym I too need to build up some muscle. I got a lifetime membership years and years ago and the gym has never been in a place I lived. Now it's in the same city but on the other side so it takes 45min to get there. I need to suck it up and go (not a winter driver) but I should a least go on the good road days. Your results along with everyone elses that go are awesome.

shcirerf - Glad to see you are staying with us.

Idealmuse - WOW being your lowest in 20 years you must be feeling so good right now.
Congratulations.

dream710 - down 3.5lbs that's awesome it is a very nice feeling fitting into your summer
clothes I bet. I have been to scared to try mine on. Even though I weigh less than last
summer I don't think my waist size has changed. Good for you.

Institches - I hope you can adapt soon to the changes going on around you and that you can
resist falling back into the old habits.

babygrant - don't worry about the chips sometimes you just need to give in. You made adjustments to your dinner and now just drink a whole bunch of water and you'll be fine. I feel for you with the sugar cravings they can be a huge downfall. Stupid food that tastes so good but is soooo bad for us.

Well not much new with me just pluggin away and hope I start to see some results again. Slow but steady would even be nice right about now instead of just steady.LOL

I hope you all have a fantastic day.

thinnerbyjuly 02-09-2010 02:24 PM

THank you so much for giving support with my weighing problem. I really appreciate your comments!

Yeah!!!!!!!! I asked in the ?'s thread and Montecristo said I can still participate and even weigh but as an unofficial member. AWESOME I DON"T HAVE TO DROP OUT and can stay with you awesome people!!!!! I joined for the support and I sure am glad I can stay. I just need to concentrate on the getting stronger, fitter, and keeping my diabetes more on track than on that scale. Besides it ticks me off. It has been at a standstill practically for 3 weeks but I can pull my jeans off fully buttoned and zipped.

LOL must be my time for emotional dilemmas. Besides the scale I have been going back and forth for over a week trying to decide if we are buying a new car. Gee, I'm cautious which makes me indecisive

I am SORRY thought that I won't be helping my team by any loss counting. Hope there are no hard feelings.

I've been meaning to pick up a fiber supplement myself. I does the sugar free metamucil taste decent??? I tried plain psyllium in water and could not get it down. I gave it to Mom. I'm rather intersted in MERCY saying it fills her up also.

Dh is in full ice-fishing mode and I am not much on fish if I have to cook it!!!!!. I'm going to try eating fish at least 3 x a week and see how that goes. Speaking of fish I think salmon is yucky but we have tons in the freezer dh caught during salmon season. Does anyone have any great ways to cook it ? Maybe with a good recipe I could eat it. I know it is really healthy.

No hard feelings here. I would be a bit ticked had you said something like "This is too hard, I've had enough, I'm going back to my old eating ways and I'm quitting. No more eating well and no more exercising". I would've been disappointed. But your NOT quitting. Your going to keep plugging away with all of us and your going to do wonderful!

I could just hug you!!!!

Nope not quiting at all. Too be honest sometimes i wish I could but as a long term diabetic it is just not an option ever~ even if I never lose a pound. I flat out refuse to spend this summer uncomfortable in shorts. I just need to concentrate on the health aspect more that the scale number. If i'm doing healthy things I will continue to succeed!

I debated for days posting i didn't want to weigh :) because I didn't want to quit the challenge.

Bigmid keep plugging away. Your doing awesome!!!! Maybe your buildign muscles ") All back on plan as of yesterday but decided it was crazy to let the scale annoy me so much.

weebleswobble 02-09-2010 03:33 PM

Bigmid, you are good at personals.

thinnerbyjuly, I am glad you can stay, and I understand (and applaud) what you are doing. :)

babygrant, I just don't pay attention, every month it's just like I get sideswiped by the most horrid PMS, except I don't realize it's PMS and I think everyone hates me, etc. You'd think after riding the pony for 23 years I'd have figured it's on its way by now. :)

Echo 02-09-2010 03:55 PM

You're welcome Mercy!

thanks for the great explanation for psyllium husks Isabella :)

Bigmid - thanks for your message :) and the kind words you wrote :) driving test studying is going well. working through the questions each day.

i calculated my BMR calories (using a bmr calculator) which gave me the number of calories i would burn if i just sat did nothing and was in bed all day lol. i then multiplied it by 1.1 (for activity) and i got 1650 - which is the number of calories i would theoretically burn, if i just walked around abit and sat around etc.

and i just thought 1000 calories through exercise would be a good burn to aim for. but i'm struggling to actually achieve this on a daily basis. so now i've changed my mind to do something abit more "realistic" so instead i'm opting for burning around 500-600 calories a day through exercise .

erm i dont know what you mean by this ?
Quote:

how do you ever do 4100 + calories of exercise
i have a heart rate monitor, that tells me how many calories i have burnt for an exercise session, so last week, was trying to get 1000 calories, through doing two workouts, with a lunch break between the two.
my exericise, is usually one exercise dvd (any of the biggest loser workouts, or jillian michaels workouts or a p90x workout - (which is usually 1 hour) i usually get something like 300-400 calories burned depending on the nature of the workout.

and then the 2nd workout is about 40 minutes on the bike.

today i did wind sprints for 30 minute . then took abit of a break, had 1 teaspoon of peanut butter. then i did about 40 minutes on the bike - and tried to keep my heart rate up between 75%-80%.

for breakfast i either have toast with a fried egg, or fruit and fibre cereal, or toast which cheese.

lunch, varies - depending on what i feel like

lately cause of TOM i've been eating over my allocated calories for lunch, so thats why i've been having to have a fibre drink for supper. which i have about an hour before bed, so i'm not that hungry when i go to bed. but because i've been riding my bike in the late evening, this tends to supress hunger hormones to a certain extent.

Thanks for asking and for your interest :)

Thinner i know what you mean. last week i was working out really hard, and kept seeing gains on the scale! and yesterday i saw like a 3lbs gain within a few days - then realised it must be due to muscle soreness that i was retaining water. even though i wasnt feeling sore. and it can be discouraging when you see a high number on the scale. but i just keep reminding myself to trust the process, and not the number on the scale. i'm glad you can still stay as a non official member!! i am a great believer in doing what works best for YOU!

i read this really interesting blog about this phenomenon, have copied pasted it for you guys :)

I’m Exercising and GAINING WEIGHT!

by Dave on January 28, 2010

In a recent article by Charlene Johnson she posted on SparkPeople.com
she talks about how common it is when people start a new exercise program (typically intended to lose weight) and they gain weight. This is especially true with intense programs like Tony Horton P90X or Chalean Extreme

Charlene states:

The temporary weight gain explained:
When someone starts a new exercise program, they often experience muscle soreness. The more intense and “unfamiliar” the program, the more intense the muscle soreness. This soreness is most prevalent 24 to 48 hours after each workout. In the first few weeks of a new program, soreness is the body trying to “protect and defend” the effected or targeted tissue. Exercise physiologists refer to this as delayed-onset muscle soreness, or DOMS.

This type of soreness is thought to be caused by tissue breakdown or microscopic tears in muscle tissue. When this happens, the body protects the tissue. The muscle becomes inflamed and slightly swollen due to fluid retention. This temporary retention of fluid can result in a 3- to 4-pound weight gain within a few weeks of a new program. Keep in mind that muscle soreness is not necessarily a reflection of how hard you worked. In fact, some people feel no signs of muscle soreness, yet will experience the muscle protection mechanisms of water retention and slight swelling.

Most people are motivated enough to put up with this temporary muscle soreness. Yet, many, especially those who really need immediate weight loss to keep them motivated, become discouraged and quit!

When I worked with a group of 70 test participants during the development stages of ChaLEAN Extreme, this happened. Who was the most upset and discouraged? You guessed it… the women! I’m happy to report absolutely for every single woman (and man) in our group, the weight increase was temporary and never lasted more than two weeks before they started to see a major drop in the scale. However, these people had the advantage of working with someone who was able to explain to them why this was happening and assure them the weight would come off if they stuck to the nutrition plan and stayed true to the program.

If you follow a multi-phase exercise plan, such as ChaLEAN Extreme, keep in mind that when you start each phase, your body will be “in shock” again. Don’t be surprised or discouraged if you experience a temporary gain on the scale the first week of each phase.

My own personal example of this is running 10Ks. I don’t do it very often, maybe once or twice a year. Even though I run on a regular basis, when you run a race, you push much harder. It’s natural for me to be insanely sore the next day. It’s also very common for me to see the scale jump 4 pounds the next day from forcing fluids post race and the resulting DOMS. Even though I know the cause of it, it’s still a bummer. We’re all human and hard work should mean results. Hard work equals results, but our bodies are amazing machines and they know how to protect us from hurting ourselves. Soreness forces you to give those muscles a break. Ultimately you will lose the weight and you will change your metabolism in the process.

The key is understanding that this is a normal and temporary and stick with the program!

When to be concerned:
If you experience a significant weight gain (exceeding 5 pounds) that does not begin to decrease rapidly after the second week, guess what it is? I’ll give you one hint… you put it in your mouth and chew it. You know it! Your food (or calorie-laden beverages). News flash, friends… exercise doesn’t make you gain weight. Consuming more food than you burn makes you gain weight!

So if after two weeks you are not losing weight and have gained weight that’s not coming off, it’s time to take a close and honest look at your food intake. Start using SparkPeople’s Nutrition Tracker regularly, and be honest.

Echo, driving in Britain was scary (at least for us, it was driving 'on the wrong side of the road') -- we had asked for a road rules book, and were assured that we could pick one up at the rental desk.

Well, they didn't have one, so we were driving blind. Thank GOD we had landed (at Heathrow, no less) at 6am on New Years' Day, everyone was sleeping off their hangover! the M-25(?) beltway was empty, and there were only a few lorries (semi trucks for us Americans), but it was enough to scare us!

The thing that almost killed us was the roundabouts. What are the rules for the roundabouts? I told my husband that you should yield right of way going in, but he never did, he just rammed right in, I thought we were going to die about 100 times.

Let me tell you, it was terrifying, as the passenger, to be sitting in what FELT like the driver's seat, but to have no steering wheel or brake. It felt like some surreal nightmare.

And then, the other thing, I don't know if you have to study for the continent rules as well 'cause you are EU now, but we went to Belgium for 3 days, I was so relieved to be "driving on the other side of the road" again - but they had the weirdest thing--blinking green lights. We still haven't figured out what those are~ do you know???

:)
Weeb (who has finally worked off her Full English Breakfasts! WOO!)

Echo 02-09-2010 04:44 PM

tell me about it weebles!! its hard driving in britain, cause the roads are small and there is alot of traffic. and yah roundabouts are tough!!

the rules are, that you have to give way to the drivers coming from the right side, (you were right!!!!) and then time your indicator approrpriately depending on which exit you're gonna take. and if its a big roundabout with several lanes, you have to make sure your in the correct lane. it is tough.

i havent come across anything about green flashing lights in my books yet. maybe its just a EU thing :s

nice on the english breakfast!!! hehehehe

Just a quick note for my blue girls, I think I'm getting better, and all your hints and tips here are sooooo helpful. I'm thinking once I start eating again, I don't want to slip into bad habits. So including some fiber, knowing my sore muscles (once I feel up to exercising) will cause weight gain, and to do well like Babygrant, seizing the moment, getting right back on track - all this is so encouraging and why I love to come here.

Glad you're sticking around with us Michelle, you are a sweet presence I would definintely miss. Good decision - for you, and us. Oh and for salmon, there are a couple of ways I fix it. If it is whole, I fill the center with chopped onions and cilantro, a little olive oil and lots of seasonings. The other choice is lemon wedges, capers and herbs. We bake it til done. If you use light mayo, make your own tartar sauce with mayo, relish, worschestchire and a little vinegar. We LOVE salmon!!!!

Well here's to another losing week girls, sounds like we have a lot of great strategies to make it happen. I'm going to be trying to think through a few personal strategies for the weeks ahead which might be difficult. We'll see. Take care girls.

Echo, thank you so much for the article on muscle soreness. I plan to share it with our biggest loser particpants at school. Quite a few of them have started working out hard at the beginning of our contest, lifting weights, cardio, etc. Some were disappointed that the scale was not showing how hard they were working. Hopefully, your info will encourage them to keep up the good work. Do you find that when you work out hard that you are exceptionally hungry? I do...have to save some of my points for after the workout! :)

I also want to share something really cool that our phys ed student teacher shared with me. She told me that our local cable company's on demand channel (199 for Comcast) offers free exercise videos. So, I looked to see what was there, it was amazing the variety: dancing, kickboxing (the one I tried!), biggest loser videos including last chance workout and 30 day jump start. And the best part is they are free! It seems like a great way to try some of these workouts before you buy the dvd. So check out your local cable provider to see if they offer the same. Tomorrow I think I will try BL Last Chance Workout! Just thought I would share...Enjoy!

Echo 02-09-2010 07:56 PM

aww thanks Dora!! glad that we're all helping :) and thats great you're feeling better
wow that salmon recipe sounds delicious! thanks for that and i love tartar sauce!! (what a cool idea to make your own!) when i was a kid and i used to visit my aunt in LA. they used to take us all to long john silvers, and omg me and my cousins used to love eating their tartar sauce, so yummy with the fried fish heheheh i miss long john silver :(
---

aww you're so welcome mageorge :) my pleasure and thats a good idea ! hope it helps them. and thats awesome about the free videos!! let me know how you find the last chance workout! ;) watch out for those renegade flys and rows, they are killer! i always have to remember not to twist my body to the side but to keep it in plank position. toughie!
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_L7onhXiTMT...negade-row.jpg
oh yes, i do feel extra hungry if i've worked out hard. hehe

but i do make sure i have eaten approx 2 hours before i start my workout. if i go over 3 hours between eating and exercising, i find i'm hungry again and i have no energy to workout. so anytime between 1 hour after eating up to 2 hours, works for me.

i was looking through jillians book today and noticed how she gives you a rest day after each 2 days of workout. and says that working out 5 days a week with 2 rest days is more than sufficient, and working out more than 5 days might prove counter-intuitive. she says workout hard, increase your intensity, but at the same time, make sure you get your rest days:

so my new plan is to workout for 2 days in a row, and then take a rest day. day 1 will be strenth training, day 2 cardio, and then a rest day, and repeat... that way my muscles have had 2 days of rest before they are trained again. as you're meant to allow muscles to rest for 2 days for weight training.

so for eg a week can look like this:

mon - strength /weight training +plus extra credit of cardio
tues - cardio only
weds- rest
thurs - strength /weight training +plus extra credit of cardio
fri -- cardio only
sat - rest
sun strength /weight training +plus extra credit of cardio

:D

well im off to bed now- lovely chatting with all of you today :) have a good night.

Just wanted to say good day to all you lovely ladies!

I am exhausted...Tuesdays are my 11+ hour work days. I will do personals tomorrow! I hope everyone has a great night!

Morning Ladies
I hope everyone is having a good day so far. Echo yours is almost over I am guessing. Well I was very bad last night but the only good thing I can say it was still within my extra weekly points so should balance out in the end. I ate 2 A&W mozza burgers. So bad and yet so good. I have to work a different type of shift today as my night person isn't coming in so at least I got my butt downstairs and started the day with a workout. I actually like to workout better in the morning but will not get up at 6am to do it.:(

thinnerbyjuly - I am happy that you are doing what is best for you. That is all you really need to concentrate on. I am also happy that you will be staying with us for the chatter and support. I hope your levels stay down as stress itself can up them. I have no way to tell you how to cook salmon I like it okay but that's about it. I really like any type of white fish better but all fish is so expensive right now. Lucky you have your caught for you.

weebleswobble - Thanks about the personals I was terrified to join any group as I saw most people did them and I am not a fan of sitting on the computer. Over time as I got to know (or as much as you can know someone from a computer) I felt more comfertable adding more comments. Now it is easier to do. I just can't skip a day or it can be overwhelming. I also don't do lots of personals at the beginning of the challange as there are so many people and they all chat alot when it starts so hard for me to keep up. Driving in Britian does sound hard. I would be weird getting used to it at first. Glad you made it through:)

Echo - the confusing part about the 4100+ was just how many hours a day do you have to exercise to burn that many calories in a week. I can barley motivate myself to do the DVD. I wish I had a bike or treadmill that way I can still get in my TV watching but exercise at the same time. I watch way to much TV. Guess I should get a life.:dizzy: Thanks for the article it was very interesting. What kind of heart rate monitor do you use. Is it one that you wear on your wrist, arm, chest, etc. I think I should maybe count calories (while I am counting points for WW) just to see how many I consume in a day. Your breakfast menu sound low for points but may be higher in calories. I may have to adjust my eating plan. I hope your changing of exercise is better for you. 500-600 a day does seem more attainable. Well for someone who is dedicated. Maybe one day I will be. I saw your new schedule too it is very good to give the body rest in between muscle groups. I used to be a fitness instructor (I know weird) so I know what to do I just find it hard to motivate myself. I need a gym to go to as there I have to do the workouts. I love strenght training the best the only problem without a workout partner you can't increase your weights as much as you should always have a spotter. Cardio I really have to motivate myself to get it done yet it is the best to do when you have lots to lose.

doragone - I am glad that you are feeling better, your salmon receipies do sound good and I must try the tarter sauce. Echo was talking about LG silver in the states we have Joey's only here and their tarter sauce is so yummy too. But very bad for you.

mageorge - that sound great to get free workouts from you local cable company. I wish we had that here. I would even know where to start looking for programs from a local cable company. What a way to add a nice varity of workouts into you regieme.

ars - I hope you got some rest last night that is a long day.

 to everyone else.

Nixmom - where are you and how are you doing. How is boot camp going.

Echo 02-10-2010 12:40 PM

wow Ars 11+ hours is alot ! you work so hard

LOL babygrant. i know who you are talking about. going to watch it tonight! but yes i AGREE!!!

hey Bigmid!! :) i totally agree with you at the start of the challenge i was really overlwemed by all the messages and personals and i couldnt keep up myself ! hehe.

oh i see what you mean. okay so basically i wasnt working out for more than 2 hours a day. 1 hour after breakfast (after an hour or so) and then 2nd workout would be on the exercise bike in the evening whilst watching a dvd.

but my new plan is to workout for 2 days straight and then 3rd day will be my rest day. :) which ends up being 5 days of working out in a week, which is what jillian recommends anyways.

i love my heart rate monitor its the best thing i have ever gotten. it really motivates me to exercise cause i get instant gratification on how many calories i burn. its a polar f7f (female version) and its a strap that you wear around the chest. but not exactly on your chest, like this : its comfortable to wear. as the material is soft.

http://www.sarkproducts.com/polarwom1.gif

to give you examples of the number of calories i burn is as follows (these are just examples of some of the exercises i did past couple of weeks):

jillian michaels 30 day shred, levels 1, 2 and 3 (1 hour and 26 minutes) (skipping cool downs for level 1 and 2) - 632 calories.

kenpo X p90x - 1 hour - 360 calories.

jillian michaels banish fat boost metabolism workout - 53 minutes - 400 calories.

p90x core synergistics - 1 hour - 444 calories.

plyometrics p90x (jump training on the rebounder ~approx 1 hour) - 513 calories

biggest loser last chance workout (the whole dvd) (55 minutes) - 420 calories.

wind sprints = 30 minutes - 290 calories.

---

thanks for your encouragement! :) i appreciate it.

wow you were a fitness instructer, that is so cool!!!!!!!!!!! we can ask you for advice ;) that must have been an interesting job, what was it like?

i hear ya on the motivation. i have no motivation to workout, the only reason i do it, just to tick it off my TO DO list that i make each morning. and so i can fill in my biggest loser last chance building block thread haha. also whilst i'm arguing with myself that i dont want to do it, i listen to some random podcast about losing weight (i used to listen to jillian michales podcast, but have heard them all now, most of them twice) and than i just do it whether i feel like it or not. but this 2 day workouts and 1 day rest, is much better now. now i dont feel like its such a drag, cause i know, im only gonna have to workout 2 days in a row, and then i get a rest day.

you're so right about cardio being the best to burn the fat. :D and thanks for the advice about how its good to let your muscles rest for 2 days :D

well done on getting your workout done first thing in the morning! thats brilliant :carrot: broc: :cb:

babygrant 02-10-2010 01:25 PM

Just to let everyone know......I am not exercising today. This TOM is horrid. :( I've tried "just walking" but I can't. I won't go into details....but it's no good. Think it might be time to try the endometrial ablation. My eating is on track....but I'm just going to take it easy today and possibly tommorow.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Echo 02-10-2010 02:37 PM

take it easy babygrant- i get painful cramps my first couple of days. and i just rest. hope you feel better soon.

today is my rest day, but i was listening to this one podcast that inspired me to walk gently (it was about chinese walking, walking with intention and just being active throughout the day) and going to clock up 10,000 steps today. just gentle walking in the house listening to podcasts :)

Soon2BFitChick 02-10-2010 03:13 PM

Hi, I can't stay but wanted to say love y'all!! Gotta go but have a great day!!! Hugs!!

Selina

ars 02-10-2010 05:46 PM

@Echo - My high calorie days right now are only 1800 calories. I know it doesn't sound like it would be that hard to hit 1800 calories, but it is! I have to avoid trigger foods (including them in the past has resulted in trouble for me staying on plan), or I would be all about adding in stuff like full fat cheese and ice cream. Basically, I'm left with lean protein, whole grains, and lots of fruits and veggies, and that does make it a challenge some days to get to 1800! I was talking to a co-worker yesterday, and she gave me the brilliant suggestion of natural peanut butter. Just 2 tablespoons is about 200 calories, exactly what I was looking for!

@Michelle - I'm glad you're sticking around to chat and post your progress even though you are not "competing" in the challenge anymore. It's important to do what is right for you!

@Bigmid - I love my rebounder! It is a good calorie burn for me (my Gowear says I average a burn of 12 calories a minute), and it gets my heart rate up quickly. It came with some DVDs which I watched to learn the basic moves. I'm not a huge fan of the DVD workout though, I prefer to just listen to dance music and do a variety of the moves to that! It's fun!

@Dora - I'm glad you're feeling a little better!

@mageorge - Time Warner cable has the exercise channel On Demand too! I love it! It's great to try different stuff for free, I get bored easily!

@babygrant - I missed TBL last night, but...I know who you mean, and I am so happy they are gone! Take it easy with TOM. I know how you feel...every 3rd or 4th time is terrible for me. I get cramping so bad that it causes severe nausea (and other not so nice stuff). I've had people tell me to exercise through it, that exercise helps the cramps, yeah right! Feel better!

@Selina - :hug:

I did some cooking today. A big part of staying on plan for me is having pre-made pre-portioned meals I can grab quickly. My freezer was getting low, so it was time to put on an apron and get to work! I made a batch of my new favorite dinner item, Baja Black Beans and Corn. I eat it heated with some brown rice, scrambled eggs, sour cream, and hot sauce. It's so good! I also have a Southwestern Goulash going in the crock pot, and that smells fantastic! I seem to crave a lot of spicy foods lately! I am having awful cravings this week (TOM is soon), but I'm also seeing a whoosh on the scale, so that is keeping me from giving in to the cravings!

Cape Breton Chick 02-10-2010 06:29 PM

Hey there ladies!!! I am so glad to hear how well everyone is doing.. and i am so happy to say that this new eating plan I started is awesome! 6 smaller meals throughout the day each containing protein and carbs. I am on day 2 of TOM and I am down 2.5 pounds.. woo hoo! lol
What I am not happy about is that I am having computer problems and am now having to use my friends system until I get mine fixed.. well foor the weekend anyway while she is out of town.. lol Mine will not even boot up.. soighhhhh lol
Well ladies I am off to see if I can fix my laptop and have a bath.. Huge  to everyone!!

Echo 02-10-2010 06:55 PM

hey angela. sorry to hear about computer probs , i can empathesie how frustrating that can be!
--

ars - i understand about the trigger foods, now it makes sense :) just before i read what your friend said, i was gonna suggest similar thing, about peanut butter hehe. and natural is even better! i had 1 teaspoon of peanut butter yesterday to give me some fuel for my workout. its like 50 calories and it does the job !

congrats on the whoosh!! and those sound like really tasty meals!
--

hey selina, nice to hear from ya :)

see you girls tommorow

I've been working and working out so much I haven't had time to post here, so hugs to everyone. Keep up the good work!

LMAO babygrant for posting that. I was sooooooo happy last night I gave out a yell too. Justice prevails, no pun intended.:D Amazing that she gained weight 2 out of 4 weeks, lost 1 pound 1 week and lost 11 pounds another. I am sure there are thousands of other people who deserved a spot on the show more than her. It's a shame they didn't have the opportunity.

I know this wasn't directed at me... (As I've been quiet!) but It takes me about 3 hours of additional purposeful exercise to hit 3000. I've only hit 4000 on a small number of occasions. 4000 is probably a bit much for an average person to target.

You might want to check craigs list or some other classifieds (or maybe even freecycle) for something used in the way of cardio equipment. Honestly time goes by much quicker when your watching a show/movie. Its a great way to fit in extra calorie burn.

thinnerbyjuly 02-11-2010 07:24 AM

Just a quick good morning to the lovely BLUES!!! Sorry to not get checked in yesterday. i spent my day dealing with car dealers. All OP!

Have a great day. I'll try to get back 4 personals tonight.

Echo 02-11-2010 08:20 AM

good for you for working out hard Mercy! and i totally agree with what you said regarding BL.

idealmuse- thats a really good idea! i agree , its a great way to get in extra calorie burn, so instead of sitting on the couch you're moving and still get to watch your favourite show.

if you dont have equipment, what i do sometimes, i just march in place! any movement of the body wil make a difference
============

i was listening to a podcast this morning (cut the fat podcast) and they were talking about not eating carbs 3 hours prior to exercise. which i found quite interesting - something about the relationship between insulin and fat burning. (i'm going to do some further reading and research into this)

so i'm going to do a 3 week experiment, to see if that helps me to lose weight. starting today.

so either i'm going to workout first thing in the morning on an empty stomach (even though i know they say you shouldnt work out on an empty stomach, but i'm gonna experiment on myself, or have a light protein snack if i'm hungry and than wait 1 hour and half then workout).

will let you know how i get on. i'm a great believer on experiments and seeing what works what doesnt for yourself.

also going to cut down on refined carbs. and eat more veggies.

if anyone is interested i wrote out verbatim what the podcast was saying - see below:

Quote:

from cut the fat podcast (podcast 1 - near the end of podcast 1).

Separate meals that contain carbs for 5-6 hours. [*more on this below from another podcast]

doesnt mean you cant have carbs to lose fat, what it means is that you want to seperate any meal that has carbs by 5-6 hours. you want to seperate the two meals that have carbs by 5-6 hours, so if you have a meal and another meal 3 hours later, you want that 2nd meal to be a protein containing meal and not a carb containing meal because protein actually increases more glucagon and keeps insulin levels low. so you have your meal - lets say its a carb containing meal and insulin levels go up , than after 3 and half hours it drops, than you have another meal thats a protein containing meal, insulin levels remain low, and now lets say you have another meal 3 hours later with carbs, so between that 3 and half hour period and 3 hours later, thats all fat burning time. (so you've got 2 and half hours [of fat burning time]).

you never want insulin levels to be high when you're working out.

Keep insulin down as low for as many hours , insulin shuts down fat burning, if you’re eating a meal with carbs (excluding veg) you must wait 5-6 hours before having another carb containing meal, (can have a protein/veg/salad meal in between instead) that will allow more fat burning time

So as long as there’s insulin in your body you’re body will not burn fat. Insulin shuts down the fat cells, we want to keep down insulin as much as we can and the only way to do that is to cut back on the amount of refined carbs on a daily basis.

Spread out your carb meals, snack on protein or veg.

Advanced technique: don’t eat carbs prior to exercise (within 3 hours) why? If you have any insulin in your system, your body will not be able to access the fat cells for energy.
First thing if you’re a morning exerciser, do it on an empty stomach.
Key thing is don’t eat carbs within 3 hours of exercise. Need to give body time to get rid of insulin.

Once you finish your exercise, if you can, if your goal is fat loss, try not to eat carbs within 2 hours of finishing your exercise, because again what happens, you’re gonna kick insulin in the system, and immediately shut down the fat burning process and we want to take advantage of fat burning time as much as possible.

We want you to get out there, and build your own little personal laboratory and test things out. If we say “don’t eat carbs 3 hours before you exercise” give it a try, see what kind of result you get. Give it 3-4 weeks. Test everything, don’t accept anyones word as the word. Become the expert of YOU.
it will be an interesting experiment ! :) it might not work, it might not work for everybody, but i'm willing to give it a shot.

(edit tom just came - got cramps, so gonna take it easy)

Mercy03 02-11-2010 11:06 AM

To Echo................

In response to your post in which you state that Jillian Michaels recommends 2 days off I agree.:)

This is how she sets up a training week on her website:
Monday- Circuit training(weights and cardio)
Tuesday- Circuit training(weights and cardio)
Wednesday- off
Thursday- circuit training(weights and cardio)
Friday- circuit training(weights and cardio)
Saturday- CARDIO ONLY
Sunday -off

So you see that it's 4 days of circuit training, 1 day of cardio and 2 days off.

Cape Breton Chick 02-11-2010 12:55 PM

Hey there ladies.. just a quick check in on my lunch break. I am still doing well with getting in my 6 meals per day.. I feel quite driven by it actually.. I feel like it is really going to help with the weight coming off.. I hope you are all having a great day... big hugs to all and I will be back this evening!!

weebleswobble 02-11-2010 01:04 PM

wow, 6! I would have a hard time with that. Good for you!

Bigmid 02-11-2010 01:07 PM

Echo - thanks for all the info I may look into getting a heart rate monitor that way at least I know what target I am working out in. I hope the new way of eating carbs works out for you. I know when I can work out in the morning I love it and I do it on an empty stomach as it works for me. Being a fitness instructor was fun. I was working as a receptionist in a gym and then I figured why not take the training. It was pretty fun to make up programs for people and to see their results. Time to look up some new podcasts online from the looks of things. Thanks

ars- I think I am going to buy a rebounder we sell one here at work and its only $60.00 so I don't think that is to bad. Not sure if it comes with a DVD though.

Idealmuse - thanks for the info it's nice to find out how many hours a week every one puts into their exercise to see the results. I should look up some used equipment in my area cheaper than buying new and depending on who owned it, it may have just been a clothes rack.lol

A big hello to everyone else I hope you are all doing well.

I woke up kind of *****y this morning and I'm not really sure why. Just in a little funk I guess. One more day of work and then I am off for 4 days so that should help a lot. I was up on the scale this morning too so I may not have actually woke up *****y but actually turned that way after seeing the scale. It is quite the blow losing 26lbs last challange and bascially nothing so far on this one. May have to shake up the routine a bit.

Nixmom- where are you?

I think you hit the nail on the head. Our bodies get used to a routine and adapts, so it's best to mix thing up. Keep your head up bigmid,it will come off, and your great attitude will help, after all you still here right?

weebleswobble 02-11-2010 01:56 PM

Bigmid, I have been in a horrible funk. Luckily there were some snow days at my school, so I din't have to go in. I really am sick of people lately.

retiredone 02-11-2010 02:34 PM

Well, I woke up feeling great but that soon changed. I must have done something to my back because I can barely stand straight. Fortunately, I had already did a little exercise and walked. It may have happened when I was chopping wood for the furnace. Now, the only place I feel good is sitting on the couch.

Anyhoo, I hope most of you are having a good day. If you're not I hope we wake up tomorrow and everything is good.

Nella 02-11-2010 02:52 PM

Hey ladies!! I dont' have time to catch up with everyone right now. Just wanted to let you know I am home and getting back on track.

DH's surgery went well and he's healing up nicely. He's still out of it on pain meds, but that's ok. I'm so glad to be home and able to eat real food instead of fast food and crap in airports.

I'll catch up more later, I have about a million things to do to get the house back in order.

thinnerbyjuly 02-11-2010 04:01 PM

Howdy everyone!!!
Hope you are all having a FINE day. I got done early as work was slow. My 16 year old is home sick today :( Poor kid!

PMS is kicking my booty!!!! TOM is due but not here. I ave had cramps for days. Can periods get wonky at 39 in premenopause or something?? My friends mom sent over caramel corn. no one likes it but me and I started in on it. I bagged it up and will take it to work. Caramel corn plus diqbetic Michelle is bad!!!!

Echo a bit of what you pasted is pretty much on with the plan I originally started following. After reading that is is a good reminder to follow my plans rules more closely. Good luck on your experiment.

Nella howdy and healing vibes to dh!

Isabella maybe some heat might help. Be careful and hope it feels better asap!

Weebles hope the funk leaves. It must be going around I swear!

Bigmid hang in there. That scale can be frustrating. I figure if we do healthy fit things~ a healthy fit body will follow even if the dumb scale isn't saying so. That why I quit weighing for now. Someone mentioned even worrying about it could cause a negative reacting on weight so no more worries.

Angela best of luck on the 6 mini meals! :)

Ars your freezer cooking sounds yummy yummy!!!!

Babygrant hope you are feeling better today. My MIL had that procedure done a few years back. Wow was she happy!

Howdy to anyone I may have missed!

ars 02-11-2010 08:06 PM

@Bigmid - You can find some move demonstrations for the rebounder on Youtube! Even just the basic "health bounce" gets the blood pumping. It's fun to make up your own moves too!

@retiredone - I hope your back recovers quickly!

@Nella - Welcome home!

It was a good day all around for me, totally OP. I'm still seeing a scale whoosh as of this morning. I was convinced when I woke up this morning that the whoosh was done, because I felt bloated, but, no, another whoosh still happened! I weighed myself on the scale at work just to be sure it wasn't my scale being weird (they are within a 1/2 pound of each other), and my scale is fine! I love whooshes!

babygrant 02-11-2010 08:09 PM

My TOM ravenous hunger is finally calming down. Oy. I managed to do a 20 minute walk last night. My sciatic nerve hurt and I was really crampy, but I did it! I'm going to do another walk after dinner...not sure how long, but every little bit counts.

Hope everyone is doing good. I'm going to spend the rest of the night doing up a budget. Blah!! No fun.

Cape Breton Chick 02-12-2010 06:17 AM

Good morning Ladies!!! Happy Friday!!! I am so happy to see the weekend this week... It has felt never ending. I hope everyone has a great day!!

thinnerbyjuly 02-12-2010 07:41 AM

Just wanted to tell everyone good morning! Off to work!

Mercy03 02-12-2010 12:31 PM

I'm under 140 again! work is finally paying off:carrot:
