Friday Discussion Question

What weight loss tip has helped you the most?

sweetandspicy 10-23-2009 08:34 AM

What weight loss tip has helped you the most? Eating smaller meals thoughout the day. In the past as I have dieted most of my life I always thought snacks were my down fall. I would eat 3 meals and suffer/starve the rest of the day and of course not loose any weight. Once I realized that as long as I make good snack choices( or actually eat 5 small meals) I am not hungry all the time, eat less, stay within my calories and seem to stick to my plan better.

I am anxious to hear everyones response as I always need constant motivation to stay on plan. Today is my best work friends birthday and I will not will not will not eat cake!!! We also have a going away party this afternoon and I may just not go to resist food temptations.

Everything is going well this week, I have exercised 3 days so far which is really great for me and I have eaten ok for the most part. I am looking forward to a productive weekend.

The greatest weight loss tip that I try to remember everyday is: "It's not going to happen overnight".

Even though its hard sometimes to view things optimistically, I just feel like every time I step on the scale for a weigh in I have high expectations. I know someday I'm going to stop pulling the numbers I have been recently. But, I know I will just have to remember its one day at a time. I'm truly living my life that way. That's why having this challenge and this forum is so vital to my own progress. I can't lose 200lbs overnight. But, I can have daily accountability for my food intake and exercise. I also know I have people I can turn to who understand what I am going through and can relate.

So, on that note: THANK YOU RED TEAM!!

FYI- I was just able to watch BL from this past week. Everything that Daniel said during his epiphany really hit home for me. I think that I have thought those same things about my own mother. Why can't she just accept me for me? Well, again, just another reason I love this show because they help real people at the ranch and people at home like me watching on tv.

What weight loss tip has helped you the most?
I think the tip that has helped the most recently is to pre-plan all my meals, writing it all down with cals and all, so I don't make food decisions while I'm hungry or in a hurry. I just eat what I've planned and then I know I'm OP with cals. Plus when I plan, I take the time to work in the fruits and veggies, protein, etc. So I meet my nutritional needs.
The loophole is eating out, which I did last night. I know I was within my cals, since I pre-chose my food before I went, but I forgot to factor in the sodium content of my food. I am up over a pound today due to TOM coming yesterday and not drinking enough to counteract the salt I ate last night. I expect it to be gone tomorrow, but it was an eye-opener today, let me tell ya!

Tips

Good Morning everyone I hope you all have had a great week so far, I am just kicking back doing nothing on my day off.

Being a full time NERD, I love tips and I try to use all of the ones below, because I believe in a cumulative effect. Here are just twelve I try to follow, though I have few more. LOL! Knowledge is power and the more I read about health and weight loss the more empowered I have become to take control of my health and life.

1. Don’t eat past 6:00 PM.

2. Drink 5 cups of green tea (studies show it can shrink your waist by 5% in 3 months.)

3. Automate your meals, less decision means you’re less likely to cheat.

4. I take one aspirin and drink a cup of Organic coffee before I workout it’s suppose to up fat burn according to Jillian Michaels.

5. Walk at least 30 minutes everyday or for me I ride my stationary bike.

6. I eat a very clean diet all Organic (nothing processed), again another Jillian Michaels tip, and she talks about this in her book Master Your Metabolism.

7. Eat 2 tsp of Safflower oil. (Studies show it can reduce belly fat by up 6% in 16 weeks and will continue to reduce belly fat as long as you eat it.)

8. Get 8 hours a sleep a night. (Studies show people who do weigh less.)

9. Always carry snacks with you, so in case you get hungry you have a healthy snack to eat.

10. I drink 2 cups of ice cold water twice a day. (Studies show it boasts your metabolism by 30% for 90 minutes after drinking.)

11. This rule I live by and because I have I believe it's the reason I have no sagging skin. I want to only lose no more then 2 lbs a week. I have lost over a hundred pounds and I have no sagging skin. I had read a study that was done about this and it worked for me. So although I really would like to lose like on TBL I realize it's better for my body.

12. Eat ¼-1 tsp of cinnamon a day.

Cinnamon Benefits Include Lowering Cholesterol Naturally

Posted by JE Jones on Jul-26-2009

The health benefits of cinnamon include lowering cholesterol naturally, helping to regulate blood sugar and boosting metabolism! Recent studies show that adding as little as ¼ tsp of cinnamon per day to your diet will lower cholesterol naturally. It can also help enhance the effectiveness of insulin in people with Type II diabetes, reducing blood sugar levels.

In this recent study, LDL (the bad) cholesterol was lowered by 7 to 27 percent. People, who took more cinnamon daily, up to 1 and 3/4 teaspoons daily for 6 weeks, reduced their triglyceride levels up to 30% the triglycerides are the fats in our blood.

Here are a few other benefits of cinnamon:

•Cinnamon benefits the immune system with the antioxidants it contains. Cinnamon also contains manganese, fiber and calcium.

•Cinnamon is an anti-blood clotting and anti-inflammatory food. Inflammation is one of the causes of disease such as arthritis and heart disease.

•Cinnamon benefits Candida yeast overgrowth with its anti-microbial effects which stop the growth of fungi and bacteria

Wow, that is a lot of tips! No wonder you are doing so well. :D

My two favorite are (1) drink lots of water and (2) this won't happen over night. If somebody had told me when I started losing weight that after 2 years I'd still have 25lbs to lose I would probably never started at all. But slow and steady is really working for me, and I can't even begin to describe how happy I am with my progress so far.

Weight Loss Tip that's Helped the Most- "It's about persistence not perfection" I used to be the queen of the "oh well I messed up so I might as well eat whatever I want now and I'll start over tomorrow/monday/next semester/next decade." Now when I mess up, I start over immediately. No sense in compounding a mistake.

I would say writing everything down as well. If you go over in calories you know it right away. There is less question as to why your not losing/gaining. I also like to go back and read my progress...or lack of

Hi Red Team,
Hope everyone has had a great week. I've had a little one with the flu this past week, she's lots better now, but still has a bit of cough and a mountain of homework to get through. Right now I would love to just run away and hide for a day where no one can find me, but it isn't going to happen.

What weight loss tip has helped you the most?
I think the thing that helps me the most is the knowledge that while losing 100 lbs is really hard, I can lose 10 lbs pretty easy and I can do that 10 times.

IgetfitNStrongforme 10-24-2009 02:12 AM

Hope everyone has a good weekend. It's Saturday afternoon here in SK. I have had myself a nice lazy day off at home. I really needed it with all the stress and emotions from this past week. My grandmother is now home from the hospital and resting at home. My mom is taking care of her tomorrow. Thank you for the prayers. We don't find out the results from the autopsy until next week sometime.

My weigh in is tomorrow morning. Not sure what kind of number to be looking for. It's been TOM this week and usually I can still lose during that week. But, I fell off plan a little today with eating some chocolate I shouldn't have indulged in. I'm going to get a last chance workout in this afternoon and spend a quiet night at home. I'll drop in tomorrow morning with my weigh in for the week.

Hey ladies... it's the weekend yay.. lol now I get to work at cleaning my house... lol
The weight-loss tip that has helped me the most...? Well I would have to say that since learning for myself that not everything works for everyone.. you have to take control and find what works .. truly works for you. Drinking water for me is key. I track my calories... keeping track of everything I eat makes it easy for me to stay accountable. Also I get on the scale daily..that keeps me really accountable and motivated.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!!

Cape Breton Chick 10-24-2009 09:17 AM

:welcome3: ArmyWife.. Jump right in where and whenever you like! Glad to have you join us as an "unoffical" team member.. :yay:
but just want to say that anyone who is "unoffical" is only that as far as weight in counting towards percentages.. and really that is just a side bar here.. we are all in this together!!! And being a support for one another to do what ever it is we each need to get done, is the most important reason we are all here...

Hello ladies-
I've been MIA & not a good teammate
after our thanksgiving trip to CA which was wonderful we were exhausted (4d of driving for a 3d visit). Add computer issues on top of that & that is the end of my excuses!

Weight loss is holding steady- might be posting a gain this week. Used a freebie last week due to holiday gain & TOM
Still hitting 12-15,000 steps a day on my pedometer but my running has dropped off once again, so I need to get my butt back in gear (note to self!)

it's snowing like a banshee here so I think it's an indoor chore day
haves great Saturday everyone!
