Blue Team Chat - Week 1 of Summer Camp

Hey Team! Now that we have our team assignments finalized, do any of our new members have a suggestion for a team name? So far we have:

Blue Badgers
Blue Jays
Blue Birds
Blue Belles
Blue Bandits
Blue Babes

Now for the first Blue Team QOTD: What is your goal for this challenge? (that can be answered in pounds or as a specific accomplishment)

My goal is to get below 145.5, which would put me in the healthy BMI range. Additionally I'd really like to lose 1% of my body weight each week.

bindersbee 05-26-2009 11:43 AM

Blue Team QOTD: What is your goal for this challenge?

I mostly signed up to keep me motivated and moving now that the kids will be home all summer and I'll be in a state of constant change- something that can easily derail healthy habits.

I'd love to lose 18 lbs. by Sept. 10th (just after the challenge ends). I have 18 lbs. to go in order to have lost 50 lbs. in a year. I know that's slow going compared to many but will be an amazing accomplishment for me. In order to do that, I'll have to 'kick it up a notch' this summer.

Since many of the people who commit to this challenge will drop out before completing the session, I also want to just be a finisher. A small goal but actually more important to long term success than having big losses.

Bindershubs: he said his goal is to lose at least 18 lbs. and get that pesky '3' off the scale as well as improve his cardio health.

Gekster 05-26-2009 11:56 AM

I think they are all cute ideas, I'm not so creative, but out of the list Blue Belles is growing on me the most.

QOTD: My first big mini goal was to be down to 250 so that would be completely awesome to happen by the end of the challenge. I hovered between 245 and 260 from jr. high until about 2 years ago which I was about 23. At that weight I was obviously still very overweight, but I could do things, I worked at a camp hiking about 10 miles a day just to get from point around everywhere because it was so spread out. I even did a 7 mile backpacking trip. I want to be able to move like that again.

As for week to week, I just really want to stay on target! I am getting better every day, learning from my choices and I just want to continue making good choices... results on the scales wouldn't hurt either ;)

I am very excited for this, thank you for setting it up!

dixied 05-26-2009 11:58 AM

Dear Blue Team:

Your Team Leader is an idjit. I screwed up the weigh-ins for the challenge in the weigh-in thread. I've fixed the template and all of the weigh-in posts so far. Just so you know, the first weigh-in is due before 11:59PM (EST) June 1st, not June 8th. :o

I vote for one of the two above.

My challenge goal is to finish lighter than I came in. I've had trouble in the past with either giving up or missing deadlines.

I also have a personal exercise challenge for the summer. My best friend came up with a plan for us to do an 8 mile run Labor Day weekend. I am not an exerciser at all so this is serious stuff for me. I am on week 3 of my training with 15 weeks to go. I have a feeling I'm going to need every one of those weeks, lol.

Newshinyme 05-26-2009 12:28 PM

Hello Team! It's so good to be wearing my blue t-shirt again :D.
Happy to see all the returning bluesers and welcome to all the newbies!
Let's rock this challenge!

I try to generally not set goals in numbers because my body just does what it decides to do but, I would like to at least match the 11 lbs I lost on the previous challenge.

Also, exercise is the toughie for me, so I would like to keep up with the exercising and making it a routine.

I already mentioned in the other thread that I like the Blue Babes name, Blue Badgers is also cute.

Looking forward to chatting with you all in the upcoming weeks!

scarahjs 05-26-2009 12:49 PM

Good Afternoon Everyone! This will be my 3rd BLC. The first one I completed but then the last one I dropped out. It was tax season, which is my busy season at work. I am an assistant at an Accounting firm. So I just had too much on my plate. I'm hoping to stay with this challenge the whole time and to finally get to Onderland. The lowest I have been was 204 back in December then I regained everything back.

As for the team name I like Blue Belles that one kind of caught my eye.

Well have a great day everyone!!!

I have a suggestion...

BLUE BOMBSHELLS

just a thought. Off of the initial list, I would vote for the Blue Belles.

Binder, I am one of those people who have not made it to the finish YET! This time is the one. Last round I fell out due to injury, and my first BL challenge I tried harder to keep up with the posts than to lose weight. Got my head on straight now ready to do the dang thang! Also wish I would have gotten BF involved here! I think it would have been a kick!

Okay Blue QOTD: I would like to lose 25lbs. Thats less than 2 a week and I need to get the weight off. I feel fantastic about this challenge ladies! Lets do it!!!

melwolfe 05-26-2009 01:36 PM

I too prefer Blue Belles or Bombshells I think.........

QOTD: I just want an extra incentive to stick with my program. I want something that will motivate me as it gets hotter and hotter outside to keep moving and working out. Obviously, I also want to lose weight, 25 lbs at least!

jmfan317 05-26-2009 01:44 PM

I like the Blue Bombshells that cute

Blue Team QOTD: What is your goal for this challenge?
I definately want to reach my goal by the time this challenge is over. Last challenge the weight was an up and down thing. If I don't reach my goal by the end of the challenge I want to have lost a total of 5 lbs every month. This challenge will give me motivation to stay on track.

zinkemomx2 05-26-2009 02:13 PM

Oh, I like the Blue Bombshells. Let's pick that one.

dgramie 05-26-2009 02:25 PM

I am happy to be blue again...I took the last challenge off. I may have missed the past 2 kinda lost track. I want to get below 200 this challenge. My lowest is 211.6 but over the past weekend i gained 5lbs. Hopefully it will come back off fast. Cant wait to see what challenges are ahead for us!!

retiredone 05-26-2009 02:46 PM

QOTD: I want to be at goal by the end of this challenge. And I want to lose at least half of that by July 12 (DS's wedding date).

Blue Team Name: Blue Belles

I love the name Blue Belles because it can be a great play on words. My dad planted the flower Bluebells in his yard when he was a boy. My sister lives in the same house that Dad was born in and that we grew up in as children. The Blue Bells are still there and I have transplanted some in my yard and so the flowers keep growing. They are such resilient little flowers and always come back even when neglected. A "Belle" of course is a woman who is a great beauty just like the flower. We are like the flower. Some of us have been neglecting ourselves but we are resilient and are bouncing back, taking care of our bodies and turning into "belles" (which we all are actually, except for "bindershubs" and we'll not hold that against him,)

From the Merriam-Webster Online: Belle: a popular and attractive girl or woman ; especially : a girl or woman whose charm and beauty make her a favorite <the belle of the ball>

Anyway that's my 2 cents for the day. Have a good day everyone.

dixied 05-26-2009 02:55 PM

I like all the suggestions, so I think we'll be democratic and set up a poll. Right after I figure out how to do that again. :D

Okay, I figured it out. Voting is anonymous, and you can only vote once. The poll will be open for two days, or until a majority of our team has voted. So if one of the choices gets over 20 votes before the two days are up, that's the name.

personally my goal is to be overweight and get out of the obese category. but since that is only 8 lbs away i'm gonna say my goal is to lose 20 lbs. also, i want to be able to run a 10 minute mile. right now its just under 14 minutes...but working on it.

Idealmuse 05-26-2009 04:09 PM

Hi everyone -

I haven't participated in a challenge for a few cycles, but I've been on the red team a few times. Nice to see lots of new faces on the blues.

My goal for this challenge is to lose about 30lbs to get me closer to where I managed to get last summer with my weight loss. (I was down to about 190 from 302)

Backsliding isn't fun, but I'm ready to get on with the journey.

That's basically mine, too, but I think I'm going to use 170 as my "benchmark". That's about 13 pounds in 14 weeks, so I'm being conservatively hopeful. If I make it beyond that in that time, I'll be thrilled. :D
I also want to get my mojo back with exercise. :carrot: I lost about 30 pounds in 2007, which came off pretty rapidly, gained 10 back in the summer of 2008 and have basically hovered there ever since. I've seen that the way I eat now is sufficient for me to maintain so I think I'm pretty on track with that (not that improvements can't be made but at least I see I haven't gained) so I think the difference for me has to come more from exercising.

I was reading a bit about kettle bells and Kettlenetics online and it sounded like fun so I ordered the Kettlenetics kit from QVC last night. I've also been looking at speed ladder drills. Has anybody used or seen speed ladders used for cardio exercise by "average folks" as opposed to athletes or sport teams?

SillyGirl 05-26-2009 04:39 PM

I voted for Blue Bombshells. It just has a good ring to it.
And my goal for this is to love my body for once for my last year of high school. I got the "Freshman 15" (or 20 in my case) my first year of high school, and I only lost a few pounds since then. Now my junior year is ending and I don't want to be remembered as the fat girl, at least for my last year. I also want this as a birthday present to myself (I hope to reach my goal weight of 115 by December 11, my birthday).

I also want to add how happy I am to be on the Blue team! :)

gen0 05-26-2009 06:52 PM

Heya teamies! Great to meet you all, and I look forward to getting to know you as we go through this challenge. This is my first BL challenge, and I'm hoping my current excitement and motivation carries me through the 14 weeks.

I'm a sucker for a pun, so my vote for team name has to be Blue Belles. I'm a fan of Blue Bombshells too though. Happy whatever really :)

My challenge goal is to get into the healthy BMI range, which for me is below 160, so about a 13 lb loss. Hopefully doable! But I'll take any loss I get. I also have a fitness related goal, which is to run 10 km in under 1 hour. Striving for this goal should help me achieve the other goal I hope.

Here's to the blue team losers!

Jacque9999 05-26-2009 07:15 PM

Glad to be on your team...LET'S GO BLUE!!!

Blue Team QOTD: What is your goal for this challenge?

  1. I would like to reach my goal on my ticker by my birthday in August (that would be about 1# a week). Definitely doable.

  2. I would like to see some sort of resemblance of 6 pack abs by then as well (I'm closer to this then I was 3.5 months ago when I started this journey).

  3. At the end, I would like to see the 120's (even though it will be a struggle with these last 10 lbs, I think I can do it).

:goodluck:GOOD LUCK TO US ALL!!!!:goodluck:

suzie42 05-26-2009 08:59 PM

Blue Team QOTD: What is your goal for this challenge?

hmmmm....I think I would be happy to have lost 20 lbs. by the end of the challenge, but really, just have lost something would be great :)

~Suzie

:cheer3: :goodluck: EVERYONE! :cheer3:

SweetScrumptious 05-26-2009 09:34 PM

QOTD:

I want to lose 15-20lbs this summer, just in time to get back to school. I eventually want to lose more, but I figure this is a good start. Joined this challenge because I wanted to be motivated and now I don't have a good excuse to just sit around all day - you people are depending on me!

I vote for Blue Birds! Specifically because I love birds. Bird is also another word for a woman

Meenamom 05-26-2009 10:47 PM

Hi I am Carrie aka Meena mom I am so looking forward to this My starting weight is 171 I am doing Jillian's 30 day shred and my ellipitical trainer and calorie counting, My weight is on the way down so I think this is right for me right now...
I would have checked in yesterday but my aunt died and there were 4 days of no excercise internet or Jillian..
Today I was back on track
How do I subscribe to this thread??
Thanks

Nixmom 05-26-2009 11:04 PM

Hey girls!

Just checking in! My BF finally opened the Wii Fit we bought back in September. I did 30 minutes of yoga and balance. I dig it! Wish I had opened it when I bought it!!!! There is an air of disgust in my house right now. BF and I are both fed up with our weights. I'm hoping that, much like when we quit smoking, doing the weight loss thing together will keep us both motivated.

But if he bails, I have all of you!!!!!!! True Blue! I am really looking forward to celebrating our first round of successes, whether its scale numbers, pant size decreases, whatever. I'm ready for some positive new in this world..... lets do it! Lets bring it for each other! Its time to rock!

Have a great night Bluesies!

practiceliving 05-26-2009 11:48 PM

Hi ladies!

Today has been a bad day, food-wise. We had a power outage at work all morning, which completely threw my plans out the window. Hard to eat yogurt for breakfast when the fridge isn't on for 8 hours, or microwave low-point soup when the power is off! Oh well, right back at it tonight and tomorrow!

I would love to be at or under 180lbs, hitting the gym 2-4 times a week, and finish off the challenge!

bjeweled 05-27-2009 12:35 AM

Blue Team QOTD: What is your goal for this challenge?

1) finish the bl challenge. something always "comes up" and i dont finish
2) hit 159 pounds i have enough free time and perserverance to do it so i want to be 9 pounds from goal when this challenge ends
3) i want to be able to run a 5K or more and have nice runners legs shaping up.

going to miami thursday morning so i will weigh in now so i dont miss. goodnight blue team!

Institches21 05-27-2009 01:02 AM

QOTD- I would love to be able to get below the 200's, be in onederland for the first time in 30years, that's the last time I was 199, the day after I gave birth to my daughter!! I can do it, that's 14lbs, it is so do-able!!
************************

Welcome to all the newbies and great to see all the familier ones back for a new challenge.

mothermavis 05-27-2009 06:35 AM

My goal is to stick with it all the way through and to get out of both the 150's and the 140's. I am aiming for a 10% loss. 15.3 pounds will get me to 138. That sounds awesome!!

maryshady 05-27-2009 07:08 AM

Blue Team QOTD: What is your goal for this challenge?

1. To lose 15 lbs. of fat

2. gain 5 lbs. of muscle-to do that I am committing to BFL weightlifting 2x per week.

3. Work out for 1-1.5 hrs a day once school is out on June 19. 30mins-1 hr until then.

4. Write down every morsel that goes into my mouth.

So glad to be back on the blue team. Unfortunately I gained a few lbs back since the end of the last one. I have been playing with the same 2-3 lbs for about 2 months now. Here's to looking forward and finally getting this weight off!

Blue Team ROCKS!!!!

dixied 05-27-2009 08:14 AM

Why is it that every bit of good news is overshadowed by bad news?

Good News: For 2 days I've been below 150 on the scale, first time in at least 10 years. :D

Bad News: Heating element went out on my dryer...and it seems like the part has been discontinued. :stress:

I guess it's time to invest in a new clothesline. DH hates line dried clothes, but my electric bill will thank me.

retiredone 05-27-2009 08:35 AM

Good Morning Blue Team. I was up early this morning to finish packing DS's lunch (too tired last night) and stayed up. I had an enchilada casserole in the oven ready for lunch by 8:30 am and have cleaned up the kitchen as much as I could with limited cupboard space.

Dixied, sorry about your dryer but so wonderful about your weight. I use a clothesline during warm weather but I don't like line dried clothes either. I try to get out the towels and sheets but DH always beats me to the dryer and hangs out the clothes and he's not too careful how they're hung. Lop-sided t-shirts are the norm in the summer. :D

I did a pre-weigh in this morning and I've got 2 pounds lost so far. Hope that hangs on until Saturday morning for my regular WI. I'm still not exercising as regularly as I'd like but I've been on a baking marathon for DS's wedding in July and have been so tired after standing most of the day rolling pastry and the like.

Today I take mom to the doctor to get her meds renewed. We'll probably take a short trip to the grocery stores as they both have complimentary wheel chairs. Mom is 92 but still enjoys a shopping spree. Tomorrow we go on our bi-weekly trip to town with our friend who helps with the wheel chair and such. So I might not get back until tomorrow night but who can tell what happens when I hear the siren call of 3FC.

melwolfe 05-27-2009 09:00 AM

Dixied, sorry about your dryer. We came home Monday to a flooded kitchen. A part in the fridge had broken and now we're going to have to replace at least part of the laminate flooring as it's bubbled up and warped!

but, on the upside I lost 2 pounds since the 17th so that's something.

OT, does anyone here make their own yogurt or bread?

zinkemomx2 05-27-2009 09:01 AM

I finally woke up to see something under 235. I was starting to get a little concerned. I started wogging a few weeks ago and have a horrible tendency whenever I start exercising to eat back all my calories. I have been trying so hard not to and the scale finally caught up. I'll have to do my next few wogs on the treadmill unless I decide to venture out in the rain. Neither option appeals to me at all. I'm loading up the iPod with some new songs though so maybe I can tolerate the treadmill if DH can keep the kids busy.

luckycharm 05-27-2009 10:50 AM

Hi everyone

Dixie :cheer: on your loss. Thank you so much for all your time and hard work in setting up the teams, and keeping the challenge going. Very much appreciated. Glad that you have Cindy to work with. The two of you are a great pair.

QOTD my goal is to finish the c25k by the end of this challenge. I am sure that if I can finish this, I should be able to drop about 20 lbs or so.

Good luck to everyone.

wantstoloseweight 05-27-2009 10:56 AM

Hi wants! This is my first challenge, too. :)

If you haven't already, go into the Blue Team Weigh-In topic up top and create your weigh-in post by copying and pasting dixied's weekly weigh-in chart. Then each week before the deadline in parenthesis, edit the post to add your weight for that week. The challenge goes for 14 weeks and ends on August 31.

I'm curious (and a little scared, lol!) :o to see what challenges are in store! :p

Nixmom 05-27-2009 12:50 PM

Wheweee!

Busy Morning here girls! I have caught up on reading the thread since my last post, doing the multiquote button thing, then I realized, that I can relate to every single post!!!!!

I NEED to stick with/finish a BL challenge (MMavie/Bejeweled)
I would love to be at or under 180! (Practice)
My goal weight overall is the weight that I gave birth at 20years ago! (Instiches)
I want to run a 5k!
My vacation home completely flooded this weekend! (melwolfe)

I get so fired up when I come here and see that we are all just energetic and motivated girls trying to swim out of our bad habits and the consequences of them while we dream about better "us"s and deal with the daily life stuff! We can do it. We are strong, smart and determined! Lets just do it!

Welcome WANTS and TREKKIE! Good to have some new faces!

So when do we get our first challenge?????????? Game on!

Gekster 05-27-2009 01:09 PM

I'm definitely with you Nixmom, bring them on! I'm so excited, its my first challenge too and I'm interested it what it will bring.

What is it with everything breaking? Luckily we haven't had any problems, but our neighbor lost all power in her house last night so we have extension cords through the house to keep her fridge running.

Dixie-I hope you can find something for your dryer! Definitely try ebay, maybe even craigslist, there is always random stuff poping up on there.

Now that classes are done I am hoping I will be even better about working out and eating well because I won't have distractions and excuses. I was SO bad during finals week, but we won't talk about that.... To make sure I don't get lazy on the food aspect, I spent all day yesterday preping for meals for the week as well making a big batch of yummy chili so I can freeze it. Plus I used up my CSA fruits and made a big fruit salad to store. It gets so darn hot here that you don't want to go anywhere near the appliances! Any good suggestions for good no or little cook meals?

melwolfe 05-27-2009 01:43 PM

Gekster crockpot meals are good. They don't really heat up the house and most are all in one meals. Pot roast, potatoes, carrots, onions all in one pot and then freeze the leftovers into individual servings for later. Spaghetti, again, you can make a big batch and freeze into individual servings. Homemade beef stew. Baked potatoes in the microwave.......ok, I'm hungry so am going to go eat lunch.

dgramie 05-27-2009 02:55 PM

just wanted to drop by and say hello.
