"Just Beachy" Beach Hopping - Exercise Challenge

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8..._354_11330.gifhttp://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8..._335_33787.gifhttp://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8..._354_11330.gif

Get out your grass skirts and your lei's! We're gearing up for another trip!

This time, we are going on a beach hop, where we get to travel to the world's best beaches!

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8..._471_13958.gifHere's how it works:http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8..._471_13958.gif

All of the beach hop's fly out of our nation's capital Washington DC. No fear! You don't have to "pay" for the flight to DC!

Each week a new post will be made with that week's destination beach, some pretty pictures of where you're going and the mileage of the flight from DC to that destination.

Your job is to make one post that you'll edit for that entire week (otherwise the team leaders will have to merge all your separate posts) and post your exercise for that week. For every minute you exercise it will count as a mile towards the flight time.

In the beginning the flights will be short to give everyone a chance to get into the routine of exercising, but as the challenge moves forward, the flights get longer!

If you exercise all of the miles of the flight to the beach, you get a little badge which looks like this http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c8...54_23053-1.gif (in your team color!) in a separate thread. (I'll be adding the badges to your post during and at the end of the week.) Your mission is to collect 15 badges to compete for the grand prize!

Whichever team has the majority percentage of people with 15 badges wins the grand prize!

The grand prize is a 2 lb pass for the final weigh in! The pass is 2 lbs off the entire team's weight as a whole (not individual!) In the event of a tie, I'm going to ask one of the 3FC's (Suzanne or Jennifer) to pull a team from a hat.

Because I know it will be asked, I'll clarify: If members from your team end up leaving the TBL challenge, we will take in account all of the people that are still participating at the end of the 15th week.

If you exercise for more than the flight miles, it does not count towards extra badges, however your team leader may have some extra incentives to get you moving past the flight mileage listed for the week. :D

This challenge begins today! So don't wait... get moving! :running:

(Since I just realized I have to leave for class, the thread will be up in roughly 30 to 45 mins for questions. And the other threads will be created for you to start posting as well!)
:D

So.... week one we count our exercise from 4/30-5/3? That's only 4 days?

momof4girls 04-30-2008 06:17 PM

So glad I went to the Y today! :woohoo:

bethbeth 04-30-2008 06:26 PM

Chellez~ You really are cracking the whip! :) That's 67 minutes a day!

jillybean720 04-30-2008 07:03 PM

67 minutes a day?! I thought you said we were starting slow to get into the swing of things :( Sorry, Blue Team, but I can't go from 0 minutes a day to 67 a day (especially when I didn't even read the rules until 7pm on the start day).

Anyway, thanks for posting the challenge, and good luck to everyone!

Could you do 30 mins?

I didn't realize it was so many minutes a day, so I'm going to post a second option for just this week...

Unfortunately the closest beach on the list I have is Ocean City NJ which is 132 miles so it would be 33 mins a day

I noticed your post in the exercise thread about your badges.

I just want to clarify that I have the badges on my photobucket account, but I'll be posting your badges in your posts at the end of the week. This keeps that thread from getting bogged down with a bunch of crazy pictures.

Debbie54 04-30-2008 07:48 PM

Ok, call me dense, but when are we suppose to post our minutes? Do we do it daily or weekly? Do we count minutes starting today?
I'm totally confused :dizzy::?:

smurf2110 04-30-2008 08:02 PM

It doesn't have to be 67 mins every day, some days I can do 120 right?! Just so the total at the end of the week is right, right?

Well, after I left here all pissy about it and finished my whining, I decided I wasn't going to go down without a fight. I went and changed, put on my sneakers, and then took my most hyper puppy out for a 45-minute fast walk (she was panting to keep up with ME!) and then stopped home to switch pups and took the less hyper pup for a 25-minute walk. So i did it--I went from 0 minutes to 70 minutes today.

So, moral of the story: put that competitive spirit to good use!

Thanks, chelle!

moon fairy 04-30-2008 09:42 PM

add me in (blue team). i think i get what's happening here.

vertigoskyy 04-30-2008 10:23 PM

Awesome!

chellez 04-30-2008 10:45 PM

Some of you posted times in this thread.... I moved them over to the proper thread which is labeled Week One.

Debbie, you can post daily or weekly, just as long as your times for this week (which ends May 2nd) are in by 10 pm EST 5/3.

Starting next week, you'll have from Saturday to Sunday to exercise... just this week is short cause the challenge is starting late

Im so proud of you Jill .. you are awesome my friend 0 to 70 in one day... ..... awsome awsome awsome..........

orthodiva 05-01-2008 03:05 AM

I was just starting to get complacent this week with my excercising and starting to convince myself that I don't really need to go to the gym today... this challenge is exactly what I need to give me some accountability and get me into the gym and moving some extra as well!!

trailgroomer 05-01-2008 06:28 AM

more from blue team

I am ready

mumtoliam 05-01-2008 08:57 AM

I am ready too!!!

sheywood4 05-01-2008 09:26 AM

I have a question! Does deep house cleaning count as exercise? :) I have a full day of cleaning facing me, a sick child, a dog who just had surgery and is very time consuming right now... I am not sure how I will be able to fit in my actual excercise regimen today! I can't neglet the housework today!!!

Diva 05-01-2008 11:16 AM

I was going to ask that too because you can add it into fitness on The Daily Plate, so can we??? I sure sweat and get the heartrate up, lol!

Shopaholic1204 05-01-2008 12:30 PM

Does playing the Wii games count?? I can work up a sweat playing some of those games..

chellez 05-01-2008 01:07 PM

I would say that cleaning and Wii games that require lots of movement can count if you do at least 30 mins of them.

:D (little dusting jobs don't count!)

sheywood4 05-01-2008 02:24 PM

WOO HOO! I am sooo glad to hear that, and I sure my dh will be glad too! becasue the carpets need vacuuming, the floors need sweeping and mopping, the bathrooms need scrubbing... the list goes on and on!!! So far today, I have done 4 loads of laundry, cleaned and vacuumed our game room and scrubbed my kitchen... a slight dent in the mound I have ahead of me! Thank you for letting us count the housework!!!

Diva 05-01-2008 02:50 PM

COOLBEANS!!! I personally can't wait for Wii Fit to come out!! :carrot:

JuliaDH 05-01-2008 05:32 PM

I am excited about WI fit too! My kids are going to have to fight me for video game time That would be a 1st!

agathachristie 05-01-2008 05:48 PM

Hi! I'm totally new here, especially to the whole chat thing, and these threads can confuse me sometimes. What thread will the milage be posted in? I saw someone mentioned 67min for this week, but I never actually saw "Do 67 minutes a day". Is it updated weekly in the log, or will it be a new thread? Thank you!

trailgroomer 05-02-2008 06:44 AM

blue team question ... exercise challenges

Hi

Trailgroomer

sxulcmnky 05-02-2008 01:46 PM

so where are we posting out workouts at? in the badge thread or here?

bethbeth 05-02-2008 01:47 PM

Post your exercise total for the week here: :)

blueyedlvrgirl 05-02-2008 06:35 PM

I have a question...If we only make it to Ocean City this time, next week will we have a chance to make up that distance by banking enough miles to get to the next destination from where we are instead of from NC? I want to make sure that if I only get to NJ this time that I won't be behind for the whole challenge, b/c I usually workout 500+ mins per week, but this included only 3 weekdays, one of which was my birthday. Thanks!

chellez 05-04-2008 11:40 AM

Don't Forget!

Tonight at 10 pm EST is your deadline to post your exercise for last week (which ended yesterday! 5/3)

I'll be posting the next beach in a few hours, just have some things to get done first :)

(All of your exercise for today 5/4 needs to be posted in the new beach destination when its posted. If you post it in the Week One thread, it will not be counted towards your Week One goal.)

amouse 05-04-2008 11:35 PM

ok i asked this in the new week but thought id ask here since this challenge seems very hard 111 minutes a day , nearly 2 hours .. seems very out of reach for alot of people including myself.. could this week the minutes count as 2 miles? which would work out to 55 minutes a day .. but since most have 1 rest day a week it actually works out to 64 minutes for 6 days?? .. and since i know i cant make 777 and its only going to get harder will my only acheivable badge count at the end if i keep posting my minutes and not earn anymore?

jillybean720 05-05-2008 05:33 AM

Maybe instead of starting in the same location all the time, we could go from beach to beach to beach--so this one would be NC to FL (not many miles off this one, I don't think, but could help in the future)?

RealCdn 05-05-2008 08:35 AM

I'll add my thoughts here as well. If we're now counting housework, laundry, etc. to my mind it's no longer an exercise challenge. It's become a lifestyle challenge. I say this because I did laundry and housework at my top weight, but didn't use the treadmill or lift weights. I think of the first group of 'exercises' as lifestyle items. Things like chores don't usually raise the heart rate much, and although important to keep moving in general, aren't huge weight loss contributors. If I do 30 mins on the treadmill I burn around 300 cals. 30 mins of laundry - 86, 30 mins of light cleaning - 107, 30 mins of heavy cleaning - 129, 30 mins of cooking - 86. I mean all are better than 30 mins of watching TV - 43.... but only the heavy cleaning comes close in my mind to actual exercise. I guess I really only think of exercise as something that breaks a sweat (and with cleaning only moving furniture seems to do that).

Again, just my opinion. I did add 120 mins of lifestyle items for yesterday, but to me, yesterday was a rest day. :)

theresia 05-05-2008 08:39 AM

I will try to make it without adding cleaning and laundry,, cuz that's a part of my work,, work in a laundry 8 hours every week,, then I am cleaning at a hotel for maybe 20 hours every week..

chellez 05-05-2008 08:44 AM

I'm going to be making some changes here in the next hour or so...

Should ease some of the worry about the mins issue. :D
