Hi everyone! I'm so excited to be on the red team and join you all in some awesome weight loss over the next three months.
1. What do you prefer we call you?
Laura is fine - it's in my signature if you forget
2. What weightloss plan are you using?
I'm a calorie counter, and I use Daily Plate to stay on track. I absolutely LOVE it - I log in a zillion times a day, so it's hard for me to get off-track without at least being conscious of what I'm doing. With this challenge for motivation, it's going to be even harder for me to intentionally go off-track because I don't want to let you all down! I cook my own food a lot, which really helps me to avoid bad things, and I usually check the nutritional info of my recipes before I make them so I know in advance whether they're okay to eat.
3. What is your favorite exercise?
I love running, but I have an injury right now (I think maybe my ITB?) so haven't been doing much of that lately. The stationary bike is my new favorite thing because it's one of the few cardio things that doesn't strain my leg.
4. What is one area that you struggle?
I never used to have a sweet tooth, but since I started calorie counting, salty snacks (chips, etc) just don't do it for me - I've started craving ice cream, cookies, pastries, etc. Weird! I keep a lot of frozen bananas in the freezer because they taste like ice cream but are a lot healthier.
5. What is one area of your weightloss journey that you excel at?
I love to cook, and I've learned a lot of ways to modify recipes so that they taste great but are fairly healthy. Most of my meals are 400-600 calories and very filling, so really, snacking and/or drinking are the main things that derail me. I also read as much as I can about health/fitness, mainly in the form of the numerous blogs and websites that post recent news. I started my own blog about a month ago and post the recipes I make as well as some thoughts about the news and other personal musings.
6. What is your short term goal?
Lose my last 8 pounds! I'm hoping to do it by the end of the WMB challenge.
7. What will you reward yourself with when you reach that goal?
Hmm, that's a good question. I'll have to give this some more thought, but maybe some new clothes that I normally wouldn't splurge on?
8. Best weight loss tip?
Honestly, Daily Plate has really made a huge difference for me because it's forced me to be conscious of what I'm eating and how I'm exercising. If you log everything you eat/do, you can't go off-plan without making a conscious decision to do so. Also, while I love TV as much as the next person, I always make it a point to do some kind of exercise while watching - even if it's as simple as walking in place or lying in bed doing leg lifts. Every little bit helps!
9. Bob or Jillian?
I actually prefer Kim to both of them, though I just ordered Jillian's "Making the Cut" and plan to follow it as soon as I get it. I've heard great things about it! I just find Bob way too laid-back and touchy-feely, and Jillian too harsh. Kim is right in the middle and I think she looks fantastic.
10. Tell us about yourself!
I'm 22, just graduated from college last May, and am working in management consulting. Right now I'm working on an in-town project (I live in Manhattan, so there are a lot of those), but in a month I'm going to start traveling to Cali four days a week, which is going to make my plan a lot harder to follow. My hobbies are cooking, watching TV, reading, running/working out (yes, I count it as a hobby now!), and hanging out with my friends. That last one can get me into a lot of trouble on the weekends when we hit the bars (alcohol has so many calories, and I inevitably also want a late-night snack after), but I've been cutting back and am now managing to go out and still stay on-plan.
Hope everyone has a great day! I'll keep checking back
