Okay this I can do...Good morning ladies! I can't believe Monday morning is here already. I have to say though I was excited to start today. I have the new challenge to look forward to and also today I am starting to journal my food again. In the past that combined with exercise has always had weekly losses show up for me, so that is what I'm back to. I am really going to do my best these 12wks, and see what I can do. I have to have my husband help me post my pictures later this evening. We took them yesterday though and I was like "is that really what my stomach looks like" YIKES! I didn't realize it was that bad, but now I have something to work towards. Today I'm helping in my youngest's classroom, and then this evening I'm going to the gym. My goal is to make the gym 5 days a week and journal everyday. I'm hoping to see a 1lb loss weekly, but I know that some weeks will be a little more and some will be less or nothing at all. Just working out though and writing my food down makes me feel good.

1. What do you prefer we call you? Tina

2. What weightloss plan are you using? calorie counting

3. What is your favorite exercise? anything cardio although I love the weight machines also...I am one of the rare people who LOVE exercise:)

4. What is one area that you struggle? My eating...BIG TIME

5. What is one area of your weightloss journey that you excel at? Exercise

6. What is your short term goal? My goal for this challenge is to loose about 10-12 lbs 15 would be great though;)

7. What will you reward yourself with when you reach that goal? Well I'm going to Vegas in June, so that is a pretty good reward!

8. Best weight loss tip? Exercise/ with whatever eating program your doing combined...they go hand in hand:) Also keep a food journal, especially if your and emotional eater like myself!

9. Bob or Jillian? Ohhh that's hard because I really do like them both...if I had to pick someone to train with though it would be Jillian...I would love for her to kick my butt in a workout:) To go to dinner with though for sure BOB!LOL

10. Tell us about yourself! Well I have 3 kids Joey 11, Madison 51/2, and Kyle 4. I stay at home and I love it. I married my HS sweetheart and I can't believe how far we've come. I love my family, and would do anything for them. My highest weight was 207.5 without being pregnant...I can't even tell you the highest then. I started getting serious about loosing the weight about 2 1/2 yrs ago along with my SIL. We are workout buddies. Both our starting weights were within 2 lbs. of each other and our weight now is within 2 lbs. of each other. We still till this day workout together and it really does help. I have been trying to get the last of this weight off for awhile now though, and I've had it. I'm ready to quit playing with the same 5lbs. and just do this already. I look forward to getting to know you all:)

Have a great Monday ladies~

Hi everyone! I'm so excited to be on the red team and join you all in some awesome weight loss over the next three months.

1. What do you prefer we call you?
Laura is fine - it's in my signature if you forget :)

2. What weightloss plan are you using?
I'm a calorie counter, and I use Daily Plate to stay on track. I absolutely LOVE it - I log in a zillion times a day, so it's hard for me to get off-track without at least being conscious of what I'm doing. With this challenge for motivation, it's going to be even harder for me to intentionally go off-track because I don't want to let you all down! I cook my own food a lot, which really helps me to avoid bad things, and I usually check the nutritional info of my recipes before I make them so I know in advance whether they're okay to eat.

3. What is your favorite exercise?
I love running, but I have an injury right now (I think maybe my ITB?) so haven't been doing much of that lately. The stationary bike is my new favorite thing because it's one of the few cardio things that doesn't strain my leg.

4. What is one area that you struggle?
I never used to have a sweet tooth, but since I started calorie counting, salty snacks (chips, etc) just don't do it for me - I've started craving ice cream, cookies, pastries, etc. Weird! I keep a lot of frozen bananas in the freezer because they taste like ice cream but are a lot healthier.

5. What is one area of your weightloss journey that you excel at?
I love to cook, and I've learned a lot of ways to modify recipes so that they taste great but are fairly healthy. Most of my meals are 400-600 calories and very filling, so really, snacking and/or drinking are the main things that derail me. I also read as much as I can about health/fitness, mainly in the form of the numerous blogs and websites that post recent news. I started my own blog about a month ago and post the recipes I make as well as some thoughts about the news and other personal musings.

6. What is your short term goal?
Lose my last 8 pounds! I'm hoping to do it by the end of the WMB challenge.

7. What will you reward yourself with when you reach that goal?
Hmm, that's a good question. I'll have to give this some more thought, but maybe some new clothes that I normally wouldn't splurge on?

8. Best weight loss tip?
Honestly, Daily Plate has really made a huge difference for me because it's forced me to be conscious of what I'm eating and how I'm exercising. If you log everything you eat/do, you can't go off-plan without making a conscious decision to do so. Also, while I love TV as much as the next person, I always make it a point to do some kind of exercise while watching - even if it's as simple as walking in place or lying in bed doing leg lifts. Every little bit helps!

9. Bob or Jillian?
I actually prefer Kim to both of them, though I just ordered Jillian's "Making the Cut" and plan to follow it as soon as I get it. I've heard great things about it! I just find Bob way too laid-back and touchy-feely, and Jillian too harsh. Kim is right in the middle and I think she looks fantastic.

10. Tell us about yourself!
I'm 22, just graduated from college last May, and am working in management consulting. Right now I'm working on an in-town project (I live in Manhattan, so there are a lot of those), but in a month I'm going to start traveling to Cali four days a week, which is going to make my plan a lot harder to follow. My hobbies are cooking, watching TV, reading, running/working out (yes, I count it as a hobby now!), and hanging out with my friends. That last one can get me into a lot of trouble on the weekends when we hit the bars (alcohol has so many calories, and I inevitably also want a late-night snack after), but I've been cutting back and am now managing to go out and still stay on-plan.

Hope everyone has a great day! I'll keep checking back :)

spidermonkey78 01-14-2008 10:56 AM

Hi Red Team!!!! It is great that we have our own thread now. I was getting really far behind on the other one.

I am very excited about this challenge. I think that it is going to help keep me motivated and on track.

1. What do you prefer we call you? DK

2. What weightloss plan are you using? No specific plan. I am focusing on eating healthy and exercising at least 30 minutes every day. I am looking for a diet and exercise routine that I can live with for the rest of my life.

3. What is your favorite exercise? Cardio. I love the treadmill and elliptical trainer.

4. What is one area that you struggle? I struggle the most with my eating. I love sweets, red wine and carbs, so I try to make sure I only eat these in moderation.

5. What is one area of your weightloss journey that you excel at? I love the exercise high, so exercise is the area I excel at.

6. What is your short term goal? My first short term goal is to get out of the 190's. It seems like I get really close and the I bounce back up to 200 again. It is very frustrating.

7. What will you reward yourself with when you reach that goal? My 30th is this year. I want to be at my goal weigh by then (September) and then hopefully I can reward myself by meeting my weight loss buddy.....blue apples.....you better get busy and meet your goal too!!!

8. Best weight loss tip? Keep moving and stay positive. Exercise seems to be the key for me. I am trying to have positive thoughts and take it one day at a time.

9. Bob or Jillian? Jillian ROCKS!!!

10. Tell us about yourself! I am a stay at home mom and a college student. I am married to my high school sweatheart (10 yrs last year) and we have two girls (3 & 5.) I really want to be a good role model for them and I think that teaching them good eating habits and how to have fun exercising are two of the best things I can do for them!

I am really looking forward to getting to know all of you. Good luck in your weight loss journey.

DK

ksk571 01-14-2008 11:10 AM

1. What do you prefer we call you? Karen or ksk - either one is fine.

2. What weightloss plan are you using? I don't have a plan. I have read several books including the South Beach Diet, You on a Diet and the Schwartzbein Principle and am doing a combination of those I suppose. I am not eating sugar (except for a rare treat and even then I try to go sugar free), eating whole grains, and trying to eat more veggies. Whole foods whenever possible.

3. What is your favorite exercise? ZUMBA! It is a latin dance inspired exercise class. It's so fun you forget you're exercising.

4. What is one area that you struggle? I guess it would be emotional eating. I can go several weeks/months doing well, but as soon as something stressful happens, I am off the wagon and have gone off the deep end.

5. What is one area of your weightloss journey that you excel at? Plateaus ? ;) - All kidding aside, I'm not sure yet. I'll have to get back to you on that one once I figure it out.

6. What is your short term goal? For this challenge - 15 pounds. For a short term event, my sister is having a destination wedding in Florida the first week of June. I would love to be bathing suit ready by then!

7. What will you reward yourself with when you reach that goal? Not sure about this one either. Probably an awesome new outfit.

8. Best weight loss tip? When you fall off plan by either not eating healthy or not exercising - get right back on track! No waiting until the next day/week etc. One poor choice is not a good enough reason to waste an entire day/week/month/year! (I need to keep reminding myself of this!)

9. Bob or Jillian? Both have different styles. Probably a combination of both. I don't like having someone up in my face screaming at me, but perhaps that's what I need some days.

10. Tell us about yourself! I am 36 and single - no human children. I have 2 dogs. I work 2 jobs and have struggled with finding the time and energy to exercise. I've decided to stop with the excuses and am determined to make this time the one. To finish what I started...FOR ONCE! I have a mother whose poor health is a direct result of her weight, and I don't want to get stuck in the same boat. I love to scrapbook, stamp, and crochet. I spend a good majority of my time alone and struggle with loneliness.

DK - I totally understand this. 179 is my "bumper" number. I can't tell you the number of times I've hit that number and bounced back up! I'm not sure if it's a mental barrier or what, but I'm so ready to break through it. This is the time for us to conquer our stubborn numbers!!

Go RED team!!

spidermonkey78 01-14-2008 11:52 AM

ksk - Glad to know I am not the only one stuggling with a "bumper number." I do feel that it is a mental thing sometimes. I think I am guilty of self sabatoge too. I am trying to do better with the positive thinking and hopefully that will help. No more beating myself up for bad decisions. I need to get rid of the negative thoughts. I am also SO ready to get past this bump. Good luck to you!

Hun.e.B 01-14-2008 12:36 PM

Oh bumper number I like that!! Sadly I have one too and its 230!! I really want to break that number once and for all!!!

We are a very blessed family.
In Oct. '06 I had an emergency open heart surgery, and since then I have decided to get this weight off and get healthy. I want to be here for my kids and my husband. I need to do this so that my kids don't pick up bad eating habits and won't have to struggle with weight.

jlbake 01-14-2008 01:09 PM

Good Morning Ladies!

1. What do you prefer we call you?
Jen

2. What weightloss plan are you using? Counting calories - I'm also following Jillian's plan from Winning By Losing.

3. What is your favorite exercise?
Walking. My sister and I have walked almost every morning for the last 10 years (even through four pregnancies). We got out of the habit for a few months at the end of last year, but we're back on track this year.

4. What is one area that you struggle? Eating too much sugar--particularly ice cream

5. What is one area of your weightloss journey that you excel at?
I think I have put together a comprehensive diet, exercise, and support plan that will bring me success. I also have a pretty positive self-image--i.e. I don't see myself as a "fat person".

6. What is your short term goal?
I want to train to walk a half marathon to motivate me to increase the intensity of my walking.

7. What will you reward yourself with when you reach that goal?
I haven't decided yet. But when I lose 50-57 lbs. I'm going to reward myself with a cute swimsuit for this summer. I want to look great when we have pool parties this year.

8. Best weight loss tip?
Focus on your behaviors more than just on results. When we judge ourselves only by what the scale says, we sometimes get depressed that the results don't come as quickly as we want. That's when we're tempted to give up. But if we focus on the consistent behaviors that do work when applied over time, we'll be able to see where we need to tweak things to be successful.

9. Bob or Jillian?
Jillian because I think a member of her team has always won the competition. She must be doing something right as a personal trainer!

10. Tell us about yourself!
I'm 34. I've been married for over 14 years and I have four kids ages 3-10 that I homeschool. I'm a SAHM & a part-time grad student working on my MA in Education. I just need to finish writing and defending my thesis. I also teach classes for my college, for homeschooled teens, and for my church. I enjoy being with my family, reading and discussing books, singing, playing Wii, and quilting.

spidermonkey78 01-14-2008 01:11 PM

Melissa - I too am an accounting major. Congrats on the upcoming graduation! I have a little over 2 more years til I graduate....slow and steady. I will get there.

Kari - I know exactly what you mean about trying not to blow the entire day after slipping up. I am working hard on that myself. I am trying not to beat myself up after making a mistake. It is a lot easier said than done.

I have really enjoyed reading everyone's answers. I can relate to so many of you.

jmoon 01-14-2008 01:12 PM

1. What do you prefer we call you? Jaime

2. What weightloss plan are you using? McDougall MWL (in a nutshell - vegan, low-fat. No flour, no oil.)

4. What is one area that you struggle? I'm lazy.

5. What is one area of your weightloss journey that you excel at? I think if there were an area that I excelled at, I might be doing better! I suppose I excel at planning, when I'm not too lazy to do it.

6. What is your short term goal? Break back into the 100s.

7. What will you reward yourself with when you reach that goal? An Enell bra. (dorky, I know!)

8. Best weight loss tip? Find a support system.

9. Bob or Jillian? Jillian

10. Tell us about yourself! I'm 32, married, mom to 17 month old Jonah. Stepmom to 3. 1 lives with us, the other two think they are adults. I'm between day jobs and teach knitting on the side. I've been fat all my life. In 2003-04 I made it down below 200 but I got married and moved to Canada... Gained back a bunch (but not all!) I'm originally from Hawaii.
