K, I have been asking questions and doing some research on my own. There are a lot of peeps who strongly disagree with the Atkins thing. That plan recommends we only consume 20 a day at first and then slowly add back in 5 more a day and so on.
This site: http://www.netrition.com/rdi_page.html Is Based on a 2000 Calorie Intake and they recommend 300 grams daily. I am wondering if I keep my carbs down to the healthy ones..fruit and veggies and of course my Special K and keep it below 150 if it would work for me? I guess all I can do is try. I think I wanna 'try" and follow Atkins, but not so strictly and to the point of making myself sick or withdrawing yanno? It would be hard to cut out breads, pastas and whatnot, but I'll get over it, LOL! I'm thinking all things white need to go. but I also think apples, and whole grain cereal's would be alright. I just think we all gotta find what works for us, much like Amanda (mandalinn82) did. Did you all read her story in the Oct 30th Woman's World mag? |
Diva, have you read "You on a diet"? It's pretty good and pretty much suggests the simple solution of cutting out refined grains...I agree, sometimes you need to find your own plan. Personally, I've read a lot of diet books and just take things here and there to help me.
One thing about special K...it's got high fructose corn syrup. That's why I stopped eating it. I avoid any HFCS, it's bad stuff. Here's a link about it. The guy who wrote (or one of them) You: on a diet, is on Oprah often and had this to say. http://www.oprah.com/health/yourbody..._350_202.jhtml Anyway, whatever you decide, I'm sure you will succeed! |

Besides what she said about special K there isn't enough fiber it. Think Fiber one, Whole Grain Cheerios, etc etc. pair it with milk for the protein carbs sometimes are better with other types of foods as far as insulin goes. So i try and have like PB with my apple or whatever. |
Okay, you are gonna think I'm super weird because my beliefs are kinda contradictory but there goes. First off, I dont think that low carb is a healthy way to go. HOWEVER, I think that doing low carb for a short amount of time to detox from sugars and processed foods is a fantastic way to go. It happens fairly quicky and you get some quick weightloss results from it too. I do however believe that your body NEEDS carbs. But, the difference is the KIND of carbs you give it. Thats why I like the low carb plans, more specifically SBD because you do add those good carbs back in...thats how you make it a lifestyle, as you'll see alot of our members are doing. I totally agree there is no way I'd go through life without having my latte or some fruit...no way! I just dont want to be so dependant on the breads and pastas like I have been. And going strict low carb has taken those cravins out and stopped the bottomless pit feeling I get all too often when dieting. What I like about SBD over Atkins is that its about lean proteins.
It all does boil down to calorie in vs. calorie out. Even with low carb plans, its just easier to eat less when you get more protein and cut out the sugars and process stuff. With lowcarb plans you do lose quickly in the beginning but it does all slow down and 1 to 2 lbs is the norm just like all other plans. Thats when you should be adding back those good carbs in higher amounts. Veggies, fruits, whole grains and so on. I've been trying to go back to low calorie because I let myself get bored with my eating plans and I've been floundering since. So Thursday I'm going back to strict low carb for 2 weeks, then I'm going to do it like you are supposed to and add those foods back in. For me its not really about lowcarb so much as getting off the sugar and flour and its easier for me to do with a low carb plan like Atkins. The YOU on a diet is exactly how I'd ideally like to eat. I've just never been able to get myself to that place yet. This time I got so focused on the numbers changing I forgot to make this a lifestyle and got burnt out. So on Thursday I'm gonna try again and be smarter about it. Work my way into the YOU on a diet. Fat Smash is another plan that you detox on, but its more fruits and veggies focused, which I liked but I missed meat REAL fast, and it was too hard to do that plan and feed my family. Making 2 and sometimes 3 dinners to feed us was just too stressful. So I'm totally rambling! LOL! Diva, you can absolutely add me to your MSN and anyone else for that matter. And I'd have to agree, I kinda like all 3 teams interacting. I think it has the potential for ALOT more support for us all. Okay time to get the brat from basketball practice!! ~melissa |

I hadn't had candy in forever and I didn't want to start now. I opened the kit kat package to put it in a container and saw that I'd gotten the wrong kind: THEY WERE NOT PREPACKAGED. I touched the chocolate accidentally and recoiled like it was a snake. And slowly it lured me in. Gosh, this is why I can't have bad things in the house. I have eaten most of the package and I don't know which is worst: The feeling of shame and disappointment in myself, or the tummy ache that I feel coming on. I'm working out double time tomorrow. I don't even want to think about how many calories I went over. |
Melissa, thank you so much for rambling! LOL! I think I am gonna do what you are doing and use the Atkins as a detox for a while and then slowly add the "good" carbs back in. I really need something to get me past craving all that stuff. I am thinking that will be something I can stick with for life...with the ocassional freebie meal (eating out or what not). I can be strict on myself for 2 or 3 weeks, but then I am gonna break and break hard if I can't have a little leway, yanno? I love my apples, oranges, Banana's and pears. I couldn't live without them I'm telling ya! I am rethinking the special-K now though lol! Like Bob say's, if it has words I can't pronounce it's prolly not good for me, hehe. ;)

Diva, that is my plan of attack...detox for 2 weeks, maybe even push it towards Turkey day but then I'm gonna be adding alot more fruits and veggies, so it wont be low carb anymore but no sugar and no processed stuff, then after awhile I'll be adding back in whole grains, like Ezekial bread and whole wheat pasta if I so choose oh and oatmeal..I love oatmeal! This is gonna be good! THIS is gonna be a lifestyle I can live with, and like you, the occassional night out isnt gonna kill me. |

Also on a side note: My fiance's workmate's teenaged daughter was in a serious wreck yesterday and last I heard was in critical condition. can you please pray for them? I feel sorry for him (James). What a week he's having. Sat when he got home from work, his wife of 16 yrs told him she doesn't love him anymore and wants a divorce and now this. :( Happy Halloween everyone! |
The scale was not mean to me today, I'm still at 195.8. Soooo, it makes me wonder if I would've lost if not for the stupid kit-kats. Anyway, spilled milk and all that.
Good luck on your detox, diva.! |
