Well, fortunately at Medieval Times you get half a rotisserie chicken. There isn't much else you can eat on a low carb diet. I did drink the tomato bisque when I got there, it wasn't overly sweet. The other items you get are garlic bread, small ear of corn and potato. Chicken was good.
Judy, how did your Peruvian meal go? Good fried plantains would be worth the carb count.
Also took my daughter to a birthday party at one of our friend's houses today. Wasn't anything I could have except water. There wasn't anything served but pizza and chips. I had a couple of strips of bacon for breakfast and was ok until Medieval Times.
Well did some retail therapy today which in turn gave me over 10,000 steps on my fit bit LOL Tomorrow a long walk is planned as long as DH hip is not bothering him. Right now I am reading the book by the same author who does the 5:2 fasting this one is on exercise and what works and what doesn't in the shortest amount of time each day/week. I am all about being efficient with health benefits. Of course I am not going by just one persons findings I need more data to back it all up!
Neko I remember doing medieval times many many years ago and it seems the menu has not changed.. oh my!
Judyo I have never lost 5lbs in one week ....as a matter of fact as low as my carbs and calories are I only managed 5lbs for the month of January so congrats to you girl!...
Judy... Oh I agree with you... Taking away refined sugars does help with the look of your skin I always think I look younger too (I WISH!) when I look at my face in the mirror a few less wrinkles too. THO... the wrinkles on the arms and legs get multiplied as you lose the fat stores... tradeoff! lololol
Nancy Congrats on that NSV (wedding set) Yeah.. it is a positive reminder that yes there is a difference happening (and a good one!)
Neko.. I know that you have already gone (Medieval Times) and did well. It is hard to stay away from the pile of food sitting front of you. I know you did well. I always tell myself.., If I really want that (whatever is not on Atkins) I can have it tomorrow. It will still be there, but I don't need that specific food right now.. I just want it... not need it, and you know... it will always be available (That is my thought process)
I am reading your info about the fasting.. (I do it without thinking at work... skipping lunches all the time) lololol
Another positive thing I've figured out, although I don't want to jinx myself. My left knee started bothering me around last April. My back went out (from a car accident when I was in my 20's) - the back goes out once or twice a year but normally I'm OK after 2-3 days - this time it lasted more than a month and I know that makes me walk wonky and hurt both of my knees. The right knee is fine but the left knee has had me in enough pain to consider surgery. However, it seems like it goes in a cycle. It will be OK for up to a week, like there was never an issue, then I can start feeling pain and then it blows up to where I can't stand it. Since starting Atkins not only has the flare-up not occurred, but I've even done walking/light aerobics without ruining things the next day. One time with the aerobics I wore a knee brace but that seemed to bother my knee during the aerobics. I feel it's the absence of the evil sugar and the addition of more fats. I told my husband today and he said it's helping with another thing. I asked "what?" He said he hasn't noticed me constantly clearing my throat - and he's right! I didn't even think of that!
Neko - I didn't get my plantains - they were only offered with one meal and I didn't want that. There was a language barrier so I didn't want to ask if I could substitute. However, I had a wonderful dinner. Unfortunately, I saved all of my carbs for those plantains and the only carbs I got was for a side salad and the veggies were broccoli and carrot strips. There was a little sauce which was cashew sauce on the sauteed shrimp and it was one of the best dinners I've had - I ate the salad & half the meal so now I have lunch. I watched the tastiest looking desserts go around the table but I wasn't hungry and didn't want the sugar. So I definitely didn't get anywhere near my 25 grams of carbs for the day.
Nancy - that's great on the steps! I'm now down 6 lbs. total after a week and 2 days which is wild since I'm close to goal. I really believe I should eat this way forever - this is what my body wants. In fact, one day I read something about either the Blood Type Diet or Body Shape Diet and it said I should be eating LC. With my prior LC diet there were somewhat strict rules, even for maintaining. I can see maintaining on Atkins being a lot easier.
Sue - I actually worried about how my skin would look when I reach goal. I'm 63 and although I've been blessed with pretty good skin and have always looked younger than my age (I've been carded into my 50's - in dark places), I thought with losing weight it might go saggy. But with the absence of sugar (especially the amount I was eating on a daily basis) and the addition of fat/oil I'm now eating, it's really making a positive difference.
Neko I remember doing medieval times many many years ago and it seems the menu has not changed.. oh my!
Actually, you used to get a rib instead of the corn. They cheaped out on us. TBH, a half chicken is more than enough meat for one person, so the change didn't bother me. And it was easy to give away the other food, grocery store type garlic bread, frozen niblet corn, frozen pound cake. Maybe the roasted potato would have been worth eating, but I was more than full on half a chicken. My kids and husband were more than happy to eat the carbs for me. I left buzzing though on two diet pepsi and a cup of coffee. I felt like this guy. lol
Wanna, it's true, those carb items will be there tomorrow if we really want them. If you want to put a higher carb item in your diet, it should atleast be wanted and good too.
I'm jealous of any of you that can take a walk outside right now. Far too cold here to want to be outside.
Hello its MOOOOONNDDAAAAYYYY lol (I have a real heavy work load and stress these next 2 days sigh) I hope you all will have a great day.
I made a strip steak for the 1st time last night and it was sooooo good! with a small side romaine salad and it filled me up and tasted good. Results -.6 lbs hooray! I was so good sticking to Atkins yesterday.. not a cheat at all. Today I will do it again! ))
judyo I have noticed health benefits from the low carb too. mostly I do not retain water like I use to and ...welll to but it bluntly...tmi.....I don't have symptoms of IBS any longer
wanna & Neko
Well again today I have stayed the same so this means for 2.5 weeks I have danced with the same 1lb a little up a little down ....I want a woosh
My body does not do those anyway I am still staying op and not cheating one bite.
Today was salad (3 cups) with some parm cheese and summer sausage, ceasar dressing, dinner 8 oz of cod and 1/2 protein bar. Maybe a chocolate protein shake later for a snack
I lost 6 pounds in about 7-8 days since starting. Since upping my carbs to 25 I haven't budged, not even an ounce. I'm happy to lose anything per week and I realize 6 pounds in such a short time period was excessive, especially since I'm close to goal. With that said, I was 140 lbs., a low I haven't seen in a long time, around Halloween. I gained 9 lbs. from Halloween to when I started Atkins a little over a week ago. So I feel that whoosh was part of that extra weight I gained pretty quickly.
I want to add another 5 carbs after this week but I'm a little concerned with not even an ounce of loss since I went from 20-25 daily carbs. I'm patient and since my knee is doing good I'm keeping up with my every other day exercise (low impact, starting light weights this week) and I feel good.
What is everyone's daily carb intake? How long have you been on that amount?
Sue - I've been busy too. Getting ready to drive an hour to a closing. Normally wouldn't go that far but this is a great client that gives me referrals and is selling a place I sold him.
Nancy - not sure how long I'm going to hold out if I don't start losing again. I believe they say if you don't lose in a week you should reduce your carbs, but I don't want to have to go back down to 20. I'd rather have my body get used to a higher amount and hopefully start losing again later. I swear I had IBS my entire life. Things changed somewhat when I was diagnosed and treated for hypothyroid & when I found out I was allergic to wheat and started eating gluten free. I still need to drink more liquids and I have to take a magnesium pill every day.
Hi everyone! I was wondering if I could join your thread. I am longtime lurker around this website but have never joined or posted. However, I'm having a heck of a time this last week or so and in an attempt to stop myself from throwing in the towel I've been obsessively Googling and I found this thread. Thought it would be good for me to have some like-minded people to talk to!!
A little bit about me - mid 30s, married, mom of 2, work full time and go to school at night (translation: no free time. None.) Career dieter starting w/ a 40 lb loss on WW when I was 24 and yo-yo dieting for the next 10 years straight. This is my first time doing Atkins seriously (I tried it several times when I was younger and never made it past the 2nd day) and I have been at it since December 10th, a little over 7 weeks so far. My goal was to lose 65 pounds, 28 of which is baby weight (baby is 9 months old, time for the weight to go!) I lost 14 pounds in the first 4 weeks, gained a pound back the 5th week, and no loss the 6th or 7th week. So at this point I have been stalled for 3 weeks and really starting to get frustrated!
I have read the book and I know all the tricks to try to break through a stall, so I'm not here to beg or advice or anything. More like I was hoping that talking periodically with others who are doing the same program will help keep me motivated and prevent me from stuffing a cookie in my face, which is what I'm tempted to do right about now!
Hope it's ok if I join in! You seem like a fun group!
Neko.. you made me chuckle about your Monday comment lolololololol
Judy, I hope your closing went great! I had 6 today and my 9:00 am did not start until 4:15 (darn lender did not send final figures (CD) and docs until 4:00) grrrrrr. I grew up in Northbrook and lived in Mt. Prospect and Clarendon Hills until 87 when I moved here to Florida.
You have lost a bunch of weight fast (and it wasn't just water either!) I think as you get closer to your ideal body weight... the losses get slower and lower. Playing with the carbs to see what works for you is what I think phase 3 is either way... We are ROOTING you on!
MrsMinnie.... welcome welcome and Glad to have you join us!
I am going to start the Feb thread With all of us weighing less! woot woot!
