I like the idea of having a hard target number to focus on through the holidays.
I'm going to aim for 5 pounds, that's a little less than what I typically lose each month but there are some tricky days in this period so it sounds reasonable. And anything less feels like I'm slacking on my expectations, so I'll reach for 5 (and I'll be gentle with myself if I fall a little short) SW : 210.4 GW : 205.4 |

Hi Staja and Sarah!!! Happy Friday - Happy day after!!! Enjoyed turkey, gravy, green bean casserole and sweet potato yesterday!! Bypassed potatoes and stuffing as well as dessert!! Were my portions bigger? Absolutely - so there is nothing new to report!! And I am ok with it because I don't feel like I derailed myself - I enjoyed the day without completely losing myself. (Of course, I loved the sweet potato...then my niece told me about the sugar and maple syrup in the recipe!!!) My mom is staying with us for a few days - she watches carbs and sugars because of her diabetes - and she made me realize the 100 calorie greek yogurt I'm buying may not be the best choice - I think I need to switch to totally plain yogurt if I want to really add it in....and I do. I like the individual servings because it helps me control what a serving looks like....and portions continue to rule my world!! Wishing everyone an on plan and downdowndown day!! |

I "ran" our town's 5k in the harbor yesterday morning and then we had a lovely dinner with over 50 of my boyfriend's family. As far as food goes, I'm actually really picky about eating things other people make, so I wasn't as crazy as I could have been. And now I'm refreshed for the holiday season (and just need to bring myself to toss the rest of the lemon cream cheese frosting in the fridge!) I tend not to do well in a challenge. Funny I can challenge myself and it works but to do a challenge with others for some reason my brain reneges! I'm going to give it a try though. If I disappear you will know why. :)

Count me in for the challenge. My goal is seven pounds. My weight is up a couple of pounds and I want to get back under 145.
I've been eating primal and intend to continue, with my eye on the carbs. Good luck everyone! |

Timlin - This thread really is just a place to keep yourself accountable to yourself - and sometimes that is "challenging" enough!! Calee - my weight is up two pounds after Thursday and Friday - I hate to admit that but Thanksgiving and Thai food that ended up being a Chinese buffet - well what can I expect - back on track - portions and low carb for me!! Staja - Awesome on the 5K!! I don't think I'll ever run anything!! True Confession: I really need to do some upper body strength training!! My husband lifts weight every day and baby girl does too!! He devised a weighted bucket on a pulley system! Well everyone including my mother can easily move the bucket at a certain weight except for me!! My 74 year old mom has great strength because of water aerobics which she does everyday!! Ugh!! What a reality check!! |
I'm in! I am also someone who gained 2 lbs over Thanksgiving week! My family was in and I couldn't resist. Starting very hard core today, just making some boiled eggs for breakfast :)

Oh I am in Lulu!... I have had a few BBBBAAASDDDDDD days (lots of lessons learned as well!) I saw a bad number on the scale this morning.. but will official weigh in tomorrow as the start (I am back up into the 250's YIKES! )

I'll join in here! I am not really giving myself a goal for December other than no gains. I am new to Atkins, restarting my first week of Induction after the holiday so I don't really know what to expect with everything.

I have a question for y'all, with atkins do you still find you gain after eating out due to sodium if you stay op? or only from going off plan with carbs? I ate out last night, had fajitas with no tortillas or anything and the veggies were in my carbs for the day but I realized I have no idea what to expect from the scale now. MARA.. Hello my fellow 230's goaler!... Lets do it! :) tho YOU will beat me to it I am thinking! woohoo!! Pixikat... oh gosh.. sodium really does it to me!.. Tho eating bread and stuffing Thursday made my blood rush and made me jittery.. it was really the sodium. I noticed that when I lower the salt intake or drink extra water the weight goes down.. So I vote for Sodium being the culprit for weight gain if only having 1 bad day :) |
Just realized I've not stayed checked in here. Weight seems to be doing its usual holding pattern that often lasts 7-10 days before a drop.

Out of the house early this AM - nothing new to report!! Hoping I can report 177 on Friday!! Wearing my new 14s this week - I bought them on October 1 but haven't worn them yet - I don't know why.....getting too comfortable wearing my loose 16s??? True confession: I am using the elliptical everyday but everyday I still "have" to make myself do it!! Will I ever really "enjoy" it? I worry I will quit....I worry all the time!! ugh! |
So much harder to remember to post when I can't do it from work!
I did some of my shopping last week (online, since I live in the boonies), so now I need to get a move on finishing up the last few and the wrapping, of course. Also, 2 parties coming up this weekend. Gosh, the holidays are so stressful. And, Mr. Staja takes 2 weeks off for Christmas. He's been complaining about having to work from home for a day or 2 of it. I started my job in August, so I can't even think of vacation until next August. And I'll only get get a week - which includes sick time. Sodium always gets me! I'm up a few ounces from yesterday while keeping carbs low, calories below 1200 with 90 minutes of exercise. Grrrr...
I'm not a whoosher, but hope that will change! I'll stick with it. |
lulu I guess it really depends on how long you've been doing it. Some people take awhile longer to like it. but if it has been more than a few months I would say start considering other exercises you might like more.
staja I would be wanting to throw things at my DH head too if he was acting like that. If it gets too much to bear you could try sitting him down and telling him how you feel. well I didn't bump up from the sodium, but I am not showing a loss today. Finally got the weight off I gained during Turkey Week! Now I feel like I am actually in the race since I don't really count that loss.

Pnkrckpixikat I've been working out since the summer but I know in my heart it doesn't matter what exercise it is - I just feel that it would be very easy for me to relapse, eat wrong and not exercise and I really want to make the change - I guess I am in a "fake it til you make it" phase and will keep trudging along!! I want to be in a "this is my everyday habit" phase!!
True confession: I used to eat a Dunkin Donuts turkey/cheddar/bacon flatbread almost everyday - 470 calories and 55 carbs and sometimes the hash browns 200 calories and 22 carbs!! Yikes!! That is a habit I am glad is gone - I only order coffee now!! Can't weigh but 60 minutes on the treadmill last night and planning the same for today!!! |
Lulu: You are doing awesome! I'm trying the "fake it til ya make it" approach myself - moved my bike in front of the tv even, so I can entertain myself while I ride!
Sue: At least we are employed, right? :) I'm finding it harder and harder to stay on track. Yes.. I am thankful for work (Tho we are sooooo sloooowwwwww right now) But I am helping out the other employee that did not like me and now she really does WHEW! :) Staja.. I hope you are having a better day!
Salt and exercise.. boy they both make our bodies hold water (Repair muscles and just act like a sponge).. but those muscles help us burn more calories in the long run... so Ying/Yang Just today.... If something tempts you.. say NO..... just for today... It will be there tomorrow if you want it.. (training my brain again!) Good morning everyone. I'm starting to get into my groove which makes me feel good. Pilates reformer classes 4-5x this week planned. That and my 30 minute walk on those days is perfect. Longer walks the other days. I'm not quite induction levels, a bit higher but sliding into ketosis. I'm determined to lose the 5 I gained in the last year, plus a few if I can.

So glad you said something about exercise causing water retention! I have been working out since I started Atkins. I do the bar method and hadn't since before thanksgiving. Super hard on the muscles so probably why I haven't lost as much as I have in the past on this diet. At least I haven't gained! :carrot: I'm taking a break from muscle work today - can barely walk or open doors! Hopefully the rest will do my body good. |

Too.Much.Salt. Can't weigh until tomorrow but going to drink water like crazy today!! My sodium intake last night was high!! I could taste it in everything!! Fresh and low sodium for me but that will be easy because I will be back home later today!! Carbs were ok and calories were under but sodium was four letter word!! Going to exercise this AM!! Skipped the workout last night - instead I made Mr. Staja shepherd's pie and took advantage of him working late to wrap his holiday presents. I also worked on a cross-stitch baby blanket I'm making for my sister. I have until May, and it's quite large!
Also found out yesterday that 85% of the folks at my old job (the one I left when I moved), are getting laid off at the end of January. What a cruddy way to start their holiday season. Makes me even more thankful that I have my right-now job, and gives me more patience to hold out before looking for something new! I am so thankful that we have strength inside of us and are directed to do the right thing and to decide on a course (work, life, eating) that is best for us. We all listened to our Guardian Angel whispering and started this weight loss journey! :)
Exercise,,, I am a walker and sometimes just need to get my butt outside (tho I do walk a circuit inside my house in and around furniture, etc for 110 steps a circuit).. but outside is better for the mind thinking and pondering!
