Default Thought i would make my own thread about not losing on induction

I "hijacked" another members thread so i would make my own. Other thread

i am on day 13

i have not lost anything that i can tell, i thought i was down 3.5 lbs but i got on the scale today and its the exact same as it was before, so i was fluctuating water weight

This is what i posted in the other thread.

See i am having this issue as well. I know i am in ketosis. I have all the symptoms, checked with sticks, and i use spark to track my food intake. i am down 3 lbs *tentative not sure its not just water* in almost 2 weeks. Maybe its because i am 37 now but i thought i would lose more by two weeks. i am over 250.

I am getting really frustrated because my mother and sister are "willy nilly" about it and are losing, meanwhile i track everything i put into my mouth. My sister ate a BOWL of ice cream and cheated one day and is still losing, she is only 2 years younger and no more active.

I am just ready to cry and quit. i keep thinking ok some morning i am going to get up and it will have moved 5lbs or something. My clothes are not any looser. I feel better, but i am getting demotivated because it seems its dragging.

Info:

I was eating 1400 i upped that to 1600 because i read too few calories hurt, my carb intake was less than 20 most days it was less than 15. I am eating lettuce, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage (all measured and tracked) *yesterday it was 9 carbs*

I am eating, steak, tuna, chicken

I use only mayo almost daily

and 2 tbl sp of ranch every other day at 2 carbs

My ratio is

Fats 72.8%
Carbohydrates 1.7%
Proteins 25.5%

Also track water, i drink 5 or 6 16oz bottle of water not counting any extra water with single pack *do the great value water bottle single packs hurt?* or 1 soda (which i am scared to even drink) i did drink store bought tea last week you know with the yellow lid that has splenda, it says 0 0 0 0 for everything. But now i am freaking about the splenda from what i read.

~sigh~ anyone been through this that maybe they can give me a light at the end of the tunnel. ALSO my "aunt" is expected next week so i hope that is it

I am making myself nuts with tracking everything, and just worried i will never lost any weight.

Maybe it's the Atkins shakes. The bars and shakes make me stall. Some people can't lose with them, there's a whole sugar alcohol debate about them.

That's my reply to the other thread. The minute someone brings up the shakes or bars and states they are stalling I tend to blame them because I stalled with them too. Some people can handle them, some can't. Try cutting them out ahnd see how it goes.

Day 13 is really still too early to decide you're not losing. We hear a lot about the people who drop a huge amount the first couple weeks, and about the people who lose consistently every week, but we hear almost nothing about the people who lose differently. And weight loss patterns can vary tremendously.

Assuming a consistent diet, there are people who lose consistently - the same amount almost every week. There are people who lose large amounts of weight, irregularly. They'll go 3, 4, 6, or even more weeks without a loss and then will drop several pounds virtually overnight. There are people who lose and gain on a predictable or irregular cycle.

When I was younger, I lost relatively consistently 3 weeks of the month and would gain 5 to 12 lbs during the 7-10 days straddling PMS/TOM.

Now, I still have the TOM gain, but my non-TOM week losses aren't nearly as predictable or as consistent as they were when I was younger. Now I often loose weighy in "whooshes" I'll stay the same for several weeks (even doing everything right) and then I'll have a sudden weight drop.

I not only gain during TOM, I also gain if I eat a higher carb day, or if I've been exercising, or if I'm sick or hurt myself (this summer I ganed weight after a sunburn, and learned by reading online that any illness or injury can result in temporary water gain, because the body uses water in the inflammation/healing process -good for the body, but bad for the scale).

You may just be a person who loses weights in whooshes. You may find that instead of losing a little every day/week - you lose in larger increments every 3, 5, 6, 8 weeks.

Because whooshing is just as normal as losing gradually, I hate to hear people call anything under 2 months without a loss a stall or a plateau (because that makes it sound as if it's abnormal or wrong to go a few weeks without a loss).

If you've not lost weight after 6 to 8 weeks, you may just be a slow woosher, but to be safe, consider getting a checkup to rule out metabolic and endocrine disorders like diabetes, thyroid problems, etc...

Its just kaploid that i am basing it off my past experience. AND i am extremely gun shy about it working, because of recent attempts at WW (total fail, i dont know how it works for some people) and other plans.

Personally i have reservations about someone dieting for 2 months with no visible loss either in inches or lbs. They are either lying about what they are doing or something is wrong. After 2 months of dieting and moderate exorcise SOME loss should be visible. That is my opinion only on the matter. I agree with you ON THAT!!

I feel better now it is actually moving. I guess i was expecting the water weight loss i have had before. I realize people get tired of others "whining" about not losing but i think its more of looking for an encouragement of "you are doing it right, have faith and keep going forward" than anything.

I was at that point, you get afraid you will never lose any weight and that is what causes people to give up.

Stephanie i think there is such a difference now in the "new" atkins over the old atkins. I did drop my calories back down to 1200-1400 (usually they are on the higher end) I have also started monitoring my sodium intake to reflect what the recommended daily allowance is.

I guess i had a freak out LOL. You know i think given the diuretic effect of the diet i was worried that not even losing water weight was a BAD sign. So i am better now.

Thanks for letting me "whine" and taking the time to respond to me

This may be a stupid question, but have you read the book? I've read the new book a couple of times and it seems there's a chapter or section in there about what to do in a case like yours...was that the "fat fast" maybe?

I know this is hard, but hang in there! I've gone 3 months without an ounce of loss before despite doing everything "right" and when I finally did lose, i lost big and fast.

I weigh daily and have had at least 4 periods of my weight being flat for 9-17 days despite me doing everything right. Then suddenly it will drop a pound or two, maybe again a few days later, then I often face another long immobile time. I choose to be more stubborn about sticking to my diet than my scale is to sticking to its number.

I've also found that too much dairy (especially cream and dressings and cream cheese) can be a staller.

Your protein percentage might be a little high, you might try to drop it closer to 20% and up the fat a bit.

Hang in there - it is harder as we age, but it's only going to get harder again if you quit now.

Hi!I totally empathized with you when you said: "
I am just ready to cry and quit. i keep thinking ok some morning i am going to get up and it will have moved 5lbs or something. My clothes are not any looser. I feel better, but i am getting demotivated because it seems its dragging."

I am on day 26 of Atkins, and I lost 3 lbs the first week, 2 the second, and nothing since then! I am over 220 so I assumed it would fly off me, as it did when I was younger, but not so. Now, I know this is a lifestyle, and not a diet, so I am still going to stick with it.... and the sticks are turning a nice pink, so I assume I am doing that alright. Last time I tried the Atkins diet the sticks never went pink, although I swear I didn't do anything bad! I was going through menopause, and I wondered then whether or not that would have made the diet so difficult. Finding it pretty easy this time
I do have problems with the Atkins Bars, so won't be using them this time
and dairy is a little scary too, so watching that. ( I am sticking around 20-25 carbs a day until I start to lose, then will increase.)

I thought I was doing ok with water, but have a question. I drink carbonated spring water, does that count as a glass of water, or does the CO2 make a difference? If so, that may have a lot to do with it, but everywhere I read it says that it is the same as regular water.
Also, I have one cup of coffee a day, with creamo, and thought that might be it too. If I have, say, an instant decaf, would that count as a coffee or water or what?

Thanks!
(Forgot to mention that I bike for 45 minutes 5 days a week and go for walks with the wee doggie every day. I am kinda old too, so the knees don't work all that well, but I am sure with weight off, I will do more intense )
