Smile Yet Another Newbie

Hi everyone! I'm a 30-something mom of 4 who decided to try Atkins to cure my addiction to sweets. The irony is I'm a custom cake designer!

I'm on day 5 of Induction. Need all the support and encouragement I can get!
Would love to find buddies with whom I can go through this journey together

Very proud of myself because I had my first cake job yesterday since going on Atkins. I resisted all temptation to eat a tiny bit (normally the trimmings would all go into a plate for my snack!) The toughest part was not being able to taste the frostings & fillings. Had to get my assistant to try it for me. Funny.

I lost 1 lb each on days 1 & 2, two lbs on day 3 but only less than half a pound on day 4. Is that normal? Is it because I haven't pooped since day 2?

I've been eating about a thousand calories a day, less than 20 net carbs.

Thanks and I really hope to be an active member of this community and kick the sugar habit forever!

to Atkins!

There are many possibilites why weight loss slows down & why it eventually stalls completely. Age, beginning weight, how much weight you have to lose, what you are eating, how much water you are drinking, your exercise & activity level etc. etc. etc.
If you haven't pooped since day 2....that makes me wonder what you are eating & in what amounts and also how much water you are drinking. Would you mind posting a menu of a typical day's eating since you've been on Atkins? Including how much water you are drinking as well as what type of exercise you are doing.
Remember, when done correctly, the way Dr. Atkins instructed, this plan works. Discouraging moments happen, as with anything else in life....but, if you are willing to continue and dredge forward....you will reach your goals!
You CAN do this!!
All the best to you!!

Thanks ladies!

Kim I am in awe of you! Your story is so inspiring.

I probably didn't drink as much water as I should have yesterday. The food wasn't great too. Probably only 3 cups lettuce + half an eggplant & minimal veggies from a quiche. The rest of it yesterday came from meat.

Normally I eat about 3 servings of protein from meat, chicken or fish; at least 3 cups of vegetables like lettuce or sprouts, maybe a cup or so of other allowed veggies, an egg or two, some cheese, about a big spoonful of salad dressing (homemade), tea and maybe a bit of cream. What do you think?

I drink lots and lots of water - much more than 8 cups a day.

I normally run/walk for half an hour but I'm not sedentary - always on the move, always on my feet.

I'm not stopped up anymore.

I'm not stressing out over it.

What you're eating sounds on target My only concerns would be the cheese & the salad dressing. While cheese is permitted on Atkins...it tends to stall weight loss in many folks. Not sure how much of it you're eating but, you may want to consider eating less...or only having it a few times a week Depending on what is in the salad dressing, it could be a potential problem. Dr. Atkins recommends salad dressings that are 2 carbs or less per serving. The typical serving size for salad dressing is 2 Tbsp. so you may want to keep this in mind also.
Your water consumption sounds great as well as your exercise.
Sounds like you're doing just great!!

I wouldn't worry about daily weight fluctuations -- most of the early loss is water, and ANYONE who gets on a scale daily should have to sign a contract saying they will not freak out by variation of up to 3 pounds, because they are NORMAL. I strongly recommend weighing 'officially' once a week - get on the scale in between if you want, but give yourself a larger timeframe to see the real progress. Some days are up, others are down, with weekly weigh ins you catch the trend not all the variations (and it gives you sanity on the up days). I practice what I preach - I weigh in on Mondays. My only cheat - if Monday is considerably higher than Sunday or Saturday (I don't weigh every single day) I dont write it down until Tuesday, which is my do-over. If Tuesday it's still up, that's my number.
