First Place is a christian orientated program started by southern baptists of Texas. It teaches an exchange program as well as a bible study. The bible study last 2 weeks, then they start a new one after having a victory dinner for the group.
The exchange program teaches how many servings that you can have for each food group and is decided on what calorie level you are on. Usually no lower than 1400 is recomended but is based on you age, and sex. It teaches a healthy way of eating and living. Such as low fat and low sugar. It doesn't limit what you can eat but teaches serving sizes. Our leaders have provided us with lots of nutritional info on eating out, water, fiber, hidden fats, and calories
They recomend it to be a lifestyle change for anyone who needs to lose weight, lower blood pressure or has diabetes. Overall if you have a health problem it can help.
Of course along with healthy living there is exercise. Whatever kind you enjoy or can fit into your day. It is encouraged to excercise at least 3x a week.
We also encourage group support and encouagement by visits, calls, e-mails, etc.
