I've read that people tend to replace their shoes far too infrequently. If the shoes are doing heavy duty, such as being your exercise pair, then they should be replaced every six months. At least, that is what I read. Maybe the article was sponsered by the shoe industry! At the very least though, I would replace them moment I started having problems with them such as blisters.
I think that if new shoes are giving you blisters, you have a pair that doesn't fit quite right. Maybe they will get better, but I wouldn't count on it.
