Default blister from walking, advice?

Right when I finally got up to just a little over 3 miles a day, I've developed a blister between two of my middle toes. It's not extremely large but bleeds each time I walk (bandaid or not). I really HATE to not walk. Besides throwing some neosporin and a band aid on it and keeping it clean, does anyone know of anything to help it heal faster than what I'm doing?

Should I decrease my exercise a little until it heals or does it not matter?

You might try putting some mole skin between those two toes while you are walking. It will keep them from rubbing. When we hike that is what we put on our heals to keep blisters from popping up. You can buy mole skin at just about any store such as Wal-Mart. Hope this helps.

Mole skin is fantastic! You can also get "blister band-aids" that have a kind of liquid padding in them. I can't remember what they're actually called, but I know you can get them at CVS or Walgreens. They saved a ski vacation for me once when I made the supreme error of renting boots and my heel was rubbed raw.

I love moleskin! I've never gotten blisters between my toes before though... is the box of your shoe too pointy maybe? It might be time for some better fitting walking shoes

Thank you VERY much for the help! I'll get some moleskin next time I'm at walmart (and what a good excuse to have to go shopping!)

my shoes are nike walking shoes. I've had them for 3 years now and I bet my feet might be a little smaller from the weight I've lost so it probably IS time for a new pair

I've read that people tend to replace their shoes far too infrequently. If the shoes are doing heavy duty, such as being your exercise pair, then they should be replaced every six months. At least, that is what I read. Maybe the article was sponsered by the shoe industry! At the very least though, I would replace them moment I started having problems with them such as blisters.

I think that if new shoes are giving you blisters, you have a pair that doesn't fit quite right. Maybe they will get better, but I wouldn't count on it.

To prevent blisters, you might also consider buying a pair of socks intended for running. I don't know if they have a special name to them, but you could probably get them at any major sporting good store. My pair actually has two layers in the sock to prevent blisters. Good luck--blisters suck!

Hi There, Back in my skinny days I used to run, there are some products for preventing blisters caused by friction, I always used vaseline because it was cheap, just put it between your toes (after your blisters are better) Also make sure you have properly fitting socks that don't bunch or wrinkle on you. Hope this helps.

For socks, only use Coolmax, Ultramax, etc. These are made from "wicking" fabrics. Don't use cotton because they absorb the sweat and it just sits on your feet. Yuck!

It's a good idea to get fitted for shoes every few years. Your size can change as well as the shape of your foot. Running stores (not sports stores) often have a pedorthist on staff, a person who has studied foot anatomy and should be able to help you find the right shoes for your feet.

If you're serious about your walking, be serious about your feet. The only equipment you need is a GOOD pair of shoes.
