Mukbang?
Let me explain. Mukbang is an entertainment genre where people eat food for an audience. Look it up on Youtube. You will see people eating fast food, snacks, fine dining, drinking milkshakes - anything you might be craving, you can find a person eating it on camera.
Oddly enough, I have found it helpful, when I am in the midst of a major craving and possible binge, to watch someone else eat all the food I would love to be eating. I can eat vicariously through them without actually consuming the calories myself.
Interestlingly, I had a conversation with someone who has struggled with major anorexia, and one of the techniques she used was to "feed" other people. She would cook large quantities of food and host dinner parties, vicariously enjoying the food through her guests, while she basically ate nothing.
In a sense, the videos accomplish the same thing - you can imagine eating the food yourself, but you are not directly pushing unhealthy foods on other people, like feeders do.
What do you think? I've also heard this type of entertainment called "food porn."
So yay or nay? Is this healthy, unhealthy, neither? Do you watch videos of people eating, or look at photos of fattening foods on Pinterest? Is it a good weight loss technique or does it only cause more cravings? Let me know your opinions. I say yay - whatever works.
