I just recently got into blanket making. I am NOT crafty either, but it is super easy and makes for great gifts! I make tons for people for xmas this year! You just buy 2 fleece blankets (2-2.25 yards is standard) you line up all the sides and then cut and knot the out sides to make little ties. There are many ways to do the ties, but I found just cutting a little slit and pulling both through makes a cute little knot.

Sounds way more complex than it is. BUT its fun, crafty, and helps me avoid boredom eating because your hands are busy!

do you like to read? That's my favorite hobby. And kind of going off the previous post- my sister taught herself how to crochet using a book and she actually got really good at it. She also made a lot of gifts for Christmas this year. She's made blankets, scarfs, hats its really cool

Here are some of my hobbies that are low cost. Maybe they'll give you some ideas on things to pursue.

1. Drawing is an extremely cheap hobby as well as pastels and watercolors--other forms of painting get expensive really quick.

2. Musical instruments. Most rock band insturments like guitar, bass, keys can be bought for $100-$200 US & still be decent for a beginner. Used drums can be cheap. Lots of free video lessons online too.

3. Animation - Blender 3D is free animation program.

4. Fishing. Rods and reels under $30 at sports stores.

5. Learning languages + books. I see you've already got that covered.

I start my garden plants from seed in late winter/early spring. I put them in sunny windo and harden off before planting in late spring.

I'm so glad you mentioned gardening. I forgot I wanted to do more research on starting a bonsai. It's been on my mind for about 2 years.

By the way, what kind of plants do you start to grow in the winter?

funny you should mention plants, ive just gotten 3 new babies called horris, borris and morris. they are carnivorous plants and my babies. i have a lot to learn about how to look after them. but i dont see those as a hobby..... strange huh? reading isnt a hobby, neither is looking after plants.... maybe i need to look at what i qualify as a hobby.

I start peppers, tomatoes, tomatillos, broc, cabbage, maybe cauliflower this year, eggplant. I used to start my sprouts, but I'm going to direct seed early this year.. This summer will e 6th year gardening and 3rd year of starting my own plants.

Last year I bought an indoor greenhouse /shelving unit that was great.

I like simple, funky embroidery. Sublime Stitching dot com is a good place to start. Modern patterns, inexpensive textiles that hold up really well. It's faster to learn than knitting.
