Default Survived my first running class

I have always wanted to run but have always been too heavy and self conscious to try it.
I am 41 years old, I have smoked for over half my life and I have always been overweight but I am determined to live a healthier life style so I thought I would give the Beginner's Luck running class a try.
Last night Ben Davis (I think that is his last name) was the opening speaker. He is a young man who last 120 lbs and has done marathons and ironman's.
I am in the very beginners group. I run for 30 seconds/walk for 30 seconds. Do this for 20 minutes. They gave us a training schedule to do. I started off strong but ended up walking at the end. I am determined to give this my best shot, I am so sick of failing at everything I try that I really want to succeed.
My legs are a little sore today but not too bad.
Gonna give it a go again tomorrow.

That's great! Good luck!

I love running, but I'm leery of it too. I've injured myself a few too many times. I think you were wise to walk when you needed too. It doesn't mean you're giving up, it means you're being cautious. I see the C25K thread, and I'm a bit envious, but I've promised myself that I won't try running until I'm down to 165 and then I'm going to take twice as long to build up as anyone says I should.

Good for you! I follow Ben's blog and find him to be pretty awesome. I am planning on attending his 5K run when he comes here next month. What did you think of him?

That is awesome! I also was someone who always wanted to run but felt I couldn't because I was to heavy. Well after I lost my baby daughter in 2006 I needed to run. I needed to run for her and for the pain. I started training very slowly with my sister at first. I remember the first night I tried to run for a min and couldn't do it so we cut it down to walk for 2 mins run for 30 sec for about 20 mins. July 2007 I ran my first 5km race, it was a race that my daughter was the honouree of. I did 10 and 1's run 10 mins walk 1 min, it was a hot day, I was 9 weeks pregnant with my son and I completed the race in 42 mins! It was one of my most glorious and profound moments and I felt so connected to my daughter.

You can do this, just take your time. I want to run again and hopefully will start in the fall when cooler weather is here and I am lighter.

@Aimeebell - Ben was a good speaker, he was personable, funny and inspiring. He has done a lot in the last three years. His speech was mostly about running and how good it has made him feel. He mentioned that his brother, Jed, his farther and himself were doing a 35 city 5k tour. I hope you enjoy the run.
