Default Plus-size chicks, how do you feel about maxi dresses?

I need some new clothes, and there are some cute long dresses out there. I know everyone's different, but in general I'm wondering if someone my size would look ok in them or not.

I haven't worn one since last summer when I was a 16...but I loved them as long as they had some sort of waist definition. Now that I'm a 10-12, I will have to get some new ones for this summer, but I love how comfy and cute they are!

I love maxi-dresses! I have to admit I'll wear a pair of leggings under neath cos my thighs rub together and it gets sore. But I think they cover everything up. And so long as I wear a light cardigan to cover my arms I feel confident

I wear split-slips.....they take away the rubbing thighs, and they feel feminine. I have them in different lengths. I like them so much I gave all my slips to my church charity for the thrift shop. I don't wear skirts or dresses very often, but I plan to wear these split-slips even when I get to my desired size.

I don't think maxi dresses are about size as much as they are about shape. I can't wear then because they don't really do anything for my figure and make me look like a box. I like dresses that enhance curves or help pull things in a bit. However, the dresses are cute!

I'll wear them with a light shrug. Some are more flattering than others.

Regarding thigh rub, try BodyGlide or something similar. Makes a world of difference. I haven't worn dresses or skirts for years until I started using it. Now I've bought 3 skirts and 3 dresses in about 2 months.

XLMuffntop- Bodyglide? Interesting! Will have to check that out! Thanks!

I love maxi dresses but some of them make me look bigger than I am so I prefer to find those with some sort of waist definition like another poster said. You can pull it off with the right one(s)!

I have a couple of maxi dresses that I used to wear a lot. I always was careful not to get too full a skirt or a skirt that was too ruffle-ly with layers. I liked a defined empire waist myself. And I was careful with print -- nothing to0 loud and crazy, since there's a lot of material there! I wore mine with cardigan or a denim jacket.

Thanks for all the input! I think I'm going to try one with an empire waist. Old Navy has some really cute ones right now.

I love them and empire waist is my friend (due to total lack of booty or waist definition) but none of them have SLEEVES - I don't need a lot of sleeve but give me something! I'm on the hunt right now for some casual summer dresses I can wear with flip flops, and maybe some skirts but I just can't find anything I like.

I had one that I wore all last summer that I loved...it was similar to this in style, though not color

The material was a bit heavier, so it wasn't clingy, the V-neck and empire waist were flattering, and since it didn't have spaghetti straps, I didn't feel like I had to worry about a strapless bra or anything... some bike shorts underneath, and I loved it. I got tons of compliments too whenever I wore it, and I was pretty close to exactly your weight at that time -

I'm not a fan of maxi dresses. They're usually empire waist which does NOT work for a flat chested apple-shaped girl like me. I end up looking pregnant.

Another reason I don't like maxis is because I always feel like I'm hiding underneath a mumu. They make me feel fat or, rather, that I'm deliberately trying to hide my body. I prefer just above the knee dresses with drop waists.

I'm too short to wear them off the rack--they're too long and need to be hemmed, and I'm too lazy to do it myself.

If you're taller and like it, wear it. Worry about making yourself happy and not what the rest of the world wants and likes.

It depends on how they look on. Try it on and if it's flattering for YOU then get it. I just think some people shouldn't wear them because it makes them look pregnant. Which is only cute if you are pregnant.
