Default Half Marathon in 28 Weeks??

Hi everyone! I've been having a hard time lately. With the whole diet and workout thing. Well, I found out that there is a half marathon locally on my birthday this year. It is something I've always wanted to do. I feel like I fail at a lot of things, but this is something I want to do for me. It is about 28 weeks away. I don't run. I've done the C25K program before (several years ago). And I enjoyed it. Do you think training for a half marathon in 28 weeks (absolute beginner) is do-able? The marathon requires that you finish in 3h30m (or they pick you up and drive you to the finish line). And being my first one, my ultimate goal would be to finish. I have no experiences with races or anything. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

Do it! I did one in Oct last year and I trained for it in 10 weeks. You can totally do it.

I also started with the c25k, and then just started adding mileage every week for a long run. 3 one Sunday, 4 the next Sunday etc.

Make sure the week before your long run is a shorter one. The week before my half I did 13 miles just to make sure I could, and I think it effected my time some.

What was really fun was after the long runs, I'd have binges, but not a normal binge. One time I came back and all I could think about was eating as many grapes as I could and drinking chocolate milk! It was wild! I guess I needed water and sugar...

I am so proud I did it and I'm planning on doing two a year for as long as I can. I figure if I do that, then I won't be able to gain weight back.

Good luck and totally go for it!

Did it. Twice. I was a walker and the pace was 15 min miles before the van would collect you. One day I'd like to try that again! It was one of the best things I ever did! I did it for charity too, so I had to fundraise. But you don't have to do it that way if you don't want to.

But just pick a schedule and train. You will do fine if you stick to the schedule. I liked Galloway, but try higdon or any other reliable one.

And remember bodyglide is your friend! Put it in all chafey areas!

You may look up the Penguin Brigade too.

GL!
