I was in Spin Cycle class this morning sporting my hideous hot pink shorts that I'm proud of because they were once too tight to wear...and they're knit for goodness sakes. All I'm doing is working out in them, so who cares, right?
We got to our first set of jumps, and I had to hike them back up over my hips. Every time I stood on that bike, and we stood ALOT today, I had to hike the dang things up.
And yet...I'll probably continue wearing them for a while because I just really do not want to buy more workout clothes! LOL! It's expensive enough keeping up with clothes I WANT to be seen in!
I keep vacillating between the two positions on clothes for the gym, which seem to be:
1) I don't care what I look like at the gym. I'm not there to be a fashion plate. I'm sweating into these clothes, for pete's sakes. Sweating, folks, sweating. This is the place where my old t-shirts go to die.
AND ...
2) I'd like to look reasonably nice in the gym, since people have to see me (and smell me) during class. Also, now that I have lost weight, I'm not quite so into disappearing into the background among all the equipment. I'm proud of what I have accomplished with my hard work. And hey, there are a few guys there who aren't so hard on the eyes.
Lately I cant' decide if I'm No. 1 or No. 2. (You sound like pure No. 1 about those pink shorts of yours.)
I haven't yet reached No. 3, which would be:
3) I want to look HOT in the gym. I will wear pants with "Juicy" or some other lettering emblazoned right across the width of my tiny shapely butt. I will show my abs. Maybe stick in some navel jewelry. Definitely I will show the tops of my hip bones. I may even brush my hair & put on a bit of make-up before showing up there.
I may never get to No. 3, but it's fun to think about it & I kind of admire the females who are there.
Maybe No. 3s are born, not made. (I am definitely self-made.)
Love it!! I'm definitely a number 1 who aspires to be a number 2. I don't think I'll ever be a number 3!
There are days I look around and wish I looked a little more put together. The smell thing is a big factor with me! I can't stand to smell myself!! I have a hard time walking past someone if I stink because I don't want them to catch my wind. LOL!
I am definitely #2 but I don't go to the gym but do run in public with others lol I always ask my DH before I go - do I look ok? ha Like it matters when I am finished lol but yanno!
saef--That is SO funny! I am probably a 1, who sometimes is a 2 and will *hopefully* be a 3 someday...or at least aspires to be a 3!!! Thanks for the laugh!
K, I'll never be a 3 but I need to work on becoming a 2. Some of the outfits I work out in are quite ridiculous. Basically I wear the clothes that have become too big but too worn out to give to Goodwill (what does this say that I'm wearing clothes that I'm embarassed to give to charity?).
I need to become a 2 because I was just interviewed for a profile story which will be posted both at my Y and on their website. Quite flattering, but definitely will lose the "nobody notices me" vibe I thought I had at the gym until the PR person asked for the interview because people were asking at the front desk about "the lady who had lost all that weight".
yup, I have slowly been reducing my XL workout stuff and getting some M stuff. Its pretty amazing isn't it?! I have run some miles holding my pants up - it sucks!
I confess....I've always mocked #3's since they seem more interested in looking in the mirror then the working out on the treadmill, but I'm ready to be a 2. There are actually lots of cute workout gear I like to own someday.
HA! I will never be a 3, I have spent too long beating up my body to think it will bounce back to that stage (was it ever at the stage?.... Oh yeah, I was 4!)
Anyway, I would like to be a 2 but right now, I am in the old tshirts bit. I would like to look decent in a good workout outfit first and then I could wear it to run errands on the weekend and then go to the gym without having to get totally changed...oh well, the time will come!
As for the smell, I can't tell who is what smell in that place, I think we all blend together. I do think I am going to start buying that laundry soap with febreeze in it. I don't think regular laundry soap is enough!
I finally got to be a 2 when I realized how much more comfortable it is to work out in moisture-wicking, fairly snug tank tops. I could never wear makeup when working out (I'd sweat it off in 2.5 seconds), but I do wear the tank tops because I sweat a lot and it's so much nicer not to have a heavy, dripping shirt at the end.
I also had to accept that I spend maybe 1/4 of my life in gym clothes (I work from home, so I typically dress in gym clothes when I get up or sometimes before bed, then work out and stay in them until I'm semi-dry), so it was worth getting comfortable ones that were fairly cute.
I noticed lately that my spandex pants, which are actually a 4x but, hey, they're spandex, are getting really loose and I have two incredibly baggy tee shirts that I wear.
I confess, I am a number 2.
However I work out at my school gym, so its slightly embarrassing to see people in classes who have watched me sweat in worn-out clothing. I mean, I wouldn't take me seriously after that!
