Default Ridiculously off-plan today

The morning started OK, with some steal-cut oat/barley porridge. Lotsa cinnamon and about half a tablespoon of brown sugar in the whole batch (enough to feed me, my kids and my husband).

Lunch. What lunch? We were at the store.

Then it got ridiculous.
- My mom made doughnuts. Dipped in powdered sugar. I had 2 of them.
- Oh and cookies. I had 1 of those.
- Then a bowl of farina cereal with a drizzle of faux maple syrup AKA liquid sugar

My blood sugar is now wildly out of control and I'm craving every sweet thing I see. Just clinging to my water bottle and hoping I can weather the coming storm of a massive blood sugar drop.

Start right now. I'd advise planning what snack you're going to eat when your blood sugar crashes and putting it in an easily accessible place. That'll avoid the looking, looking, looking for something that can often result when our blood sugar dips...you'll have something (hopefully something with some protein) ready to go.

Yep, what Amanda said.

And then don't beat yourself up. Stuff happens. Sounds like you didn't eat tons of food -- just a bunch that will screw up your blood sugar.

Have another great breakfast tomorrow.

Oh, and I always try to carry a snack with me for times I might miss a meal. A handful of almonds, or even a granola bar of some sort can mean the difference between going wildly off plan and staying on plan.

Good luck!

Yep! Keep a get out of jail free snack hidden in your car or purse at all times. I had to use mine today. I took the dog to the park to run and then hit the gym after. Didnt plan to be there long but went longer which is a good thing. Then I was inspired to do some shopping. Pretty soon I had been away from the house and my last meal for 5 hours. My hands started to shake and I remembered that I had a luna bar hidden in my purse. What a life saver that was!

Was able to come home and have time to make a nice salad before the bar wore off.

Really is one of the best suggestions I got from WW meetings. Be Prepared!

We all make mistakes...or get carried away. If you eat well 90% of the time, you will still lose and for me anyway that is a 90% increase of good eating from only months ago!!

Well, my blood sugar crashed. I had a baked potato (not on plan, but I knew it would stabilize me better than another doughnut!) that has been tiding me over. I'm not longer hungry, but still have the blood-sugar munchies. Water water water...

I really do think it's about a combination of learning from what happened and moving on back on track. You didn't eat lunch and that set you up for some unplanned eating. As the others stated, I think it would be of great benefit to always have something in your purse or car.

I'm really proud of you for coming here and reporting it. That's a great way to keep yourself in check. I think you have good advice on the protein snacks from here on out, and of course the chug the water to help rid your system of the junk.

And may I suggest, the next time you just have to have that donut...eat it with some deli meat or some other protein. Sounds weird, I know. But if you down the slice of deli meat first there are several good things happening. 1. You may decide the donut doesn't look as good as you first thought. 2. The likelihood of crashing later lessens. There's some scientific stuff about proteins linking themselves to carbs that's too complicated for me to write out at the moment. It's part of an insulin resistance diet. But trust me...it works.
