Hi there!
I've noticed over the past few weeks that using this site becomes slower, and slower and slower the longer that I am logged on.
And, recently, an "alert" box has popped up that says, to the effect that:

A script is running in the background and is slowing down the operation of your computer. Would you like to turn it off? If you do not turn it off, it will seriously slow the running of your computer.

When I say that I want to turn off the script, the site picks right up and things function as they should.

This happens when I log on only to this site, and I have no other windows open at the time.

I have a virus program and have cleaned my computer, and there is no indication of anything else running. So this might be some sort of innocuous script being triggered by, say Google Ads or one of their subscriptees???

Unfortunately, it could be anything on the page causing that message. The page has a lot of individual scripts that make it work. For example, the "forum jump" menu that lets you move from one forum to another is a script, and the thread tools that lets you subscribe to a thread is a script. The message you received is very generic, so it's impossible to pin it down. If stopping the script lets you use the forum normally, then whatever was loading must not be necessary I don't think it's anything bad, or your antivirus would alert you with a more specific message.
