Well, Snagglepuss used to always say, "Heavens to mergatroids, even!" on the Laff-a-Lympics, but I was thinking of the song "Jam on It" by Newcleus when I registered. At the end, the little Ewok voice says, "Has anybody seen my sister, Mergatroid? Hey Mergatroid! Let's go!" I'm sure it's in a ton of other things, too.

Oh and the Shining is one of my favorite movies EVER. It's directed by Stanley Kubrick and stars Jack Nicholson so even the snobbiest film snobs have to agree with your idea of great drama! The Gene Siskel Film Center just showed it on the big screen as part of a Kubrick tribute and even though I've seen it a million times, it scared the snot out of me all over again.

Woody Allen always plays neurotic, horny *******s with a preference for very young women. Art imitating life, perhaps???

ajandpj99 08-26-2005 12:15 AM

Heavens to Mergatroid! That's it!
I watch or use to watch a lot of cartoons - laff a lympics - too much!

I go through phases - tv wise - I am in the science phase - CSI, Star Trek, BSG, then there is the real ER Trauma and paramedics and the others on discover health. This winter I will probably do the cartoons again when the have Scooby doo on all weekend. :D

ajandpj99 08-26-2005 09:29 AM

Well - we watched the Bourne Supremacy Wed night and Dodgball last night. :dz:

If you have seen the Bourne Identity then you may as well see the sequel although it stands on its own fairly well. It was definately high action and very fast paced - almost too fast - DH said it hurt his eyes. While it kept my attention - it felt like it was lacking something? Maybe because they set it up for another sequel at the end?

Dodgeball - If you like slapstick - then you will like this movie :corn: it had some pretty funny parts and even though predictable, it was cute in its own way. And for those of that don't know this - Dogdeball really is a professionally played sport - I have seen it on ESPN.

I probably wouldn't watch either movie again - and I was glad I got them at a discount - but they kept me awake so that is something.

Ferret 08-26-2005 11:19 AM

yeah dodgeball was pretty good...i liked anchorman better lmao

Sister Mergatroid 08-27-2005 01:46 PM

Anchorman = hilarious.

Has anyone seen 40 Year Old Virgin? I think that looks pretty funny, too.

Ferret 08-28-2005 10:49 AM

yeah i thought it did too...

Actually watched the movies we got from Netflix over a month ago this weekend. All the little Animals with Christian Bale was alright. The DVD had very poor sound quality, I acutally had to put on subtitles so I could hear it! It was still a pretty good movie though. Also watched Empire of the Sun which was excellent. Had never seen it before, it's pretty old but a classic. The other movie we watched was 25th hour. It wasn't the greatest. It was a Spike Lee movie, with Ed Norton, who I usually like. The movie was alright, but it just seemed like one great big photojournal on the rant of freedom and 9/11. Which I just wasn't anticipating.

Sister Mergatroid 08-29-2005 09:54 PM

I totally agree about 25th Hour. Spike Lee isn't the most subtle film maker in the world, but I thought the 9/11 rant was a bit over the top even for him.

We watched The King of Comedy (Martin Scorsese film staring Robert Deniro, not the stand-up movie!) and it was okay. It was basically Taxi Driver under different circumstances and with more funny and less blood.

We have Out of the Past, an old Robert Mitchum movie that I'm pretty psyched about because I love noir and Robert Mitchum was so creepy in his heyday, and Gates of Heaven, which is an Errol Morris documentary about a pet cemetery in Palo Alto (one where, alas, the pets do not come back from the dead). Too bad I have to study too much to watch them any time soon. Pfffbt.

Lizz - not sure what Netflix policy is - but I imagine it is the same as Blockbuster - if you get a DVD that is crappy or doesnt work - you just report it to them online and they send you a new copy right away and you just return the bad one. I have rented over 20 movies in the last month from BB and only had 1 bad one and they sent a new one out ASAP. And I only had 1 incident with slow mail and when I told them it had been more than 3 days since I returned a DVD - they cleared it and then sent my next movie that day.

And the mail has gotten faster - sometimes I get movies in 2 days and then watch and have returned to BB - 5 days from when then sent it to me. So that is awesome!

I figure my cost per movie is averaging less that $2 each ($1.50 close) - compared to $3.50 at the local vid store and it is a 15 min drive 1 way to get there - my PO is only a 4 min drive. So I am saving on gas too!!

aj - netflix does about the same thing, you just email them and after a certain amount of time they assume it's lost, or you send back the broken one and there's a place to mark it as damaged on the cd sleeve. It all works out pretty good, over the entire time we've had them, we've only recieved maybe 5 damaged disks, and we've been with them since 1999. The only downfall I've ever noticed is that sometimes I want to watch a movie RIGHT NOW, not in a few days, so I still occasionally rent. Other than that, it works out great as long as my hubby doesn't sneak some crappy movie to the top of the list and bump out my movies. :)
Haven't watched anything new lately, still catching up on the latest 6 feet under's that just came out.

Ferret 09-02-2005 12:39 AM

i liked netflix a lot...we should almost go back to it...but like liz said, sometimes you wanna watch it right now LOL

ajandpj99 09-02-2005 02:32 PM

If you sign up with Blockbuster.com - they give you 2 free in store rentals per month with your subscription so you can be spontaneous.

I dont use my coupons since nearest BB is 35 miles away. But with DH gone on Sun, Mon and Tues - the timing has been excellent that I typically get the movies on Wed, Thurs and Fri and we watch 1 per nite through Sat - and occasionally I rent some that he wont like so I watch when convenient. The other nice thing about BB is that they dont make me wait - if I notify them that I returned a movie and they should have it by now - 2-3 days tops - they just send my next one ASAP and then deal with the PO themselves or if I get a bad 1 - but that only happened once.

I get three at a time and so that is usually 3 per week if I get off my butt and mail them back the next day.

I love it - no more driving into town to find a movie to watch when I cant remember there names or what they're about. I love going online when I see a preview and then add to my list and I put them in order of what I want first and can rearrange the order anytime.

Ferret 09-03-2005 12:46 AM

yeah i've been thinking about that but andy and i really hate blockbuster...so i dunno...

ajandpj99 09-03-2005 11:20 AM

Sky Captain and the World of Tommorrow

We saw Sky Captain and the World of Tommorrow last night.

It was pretty good. The stylization made it look like it had been made in the 30's then partially colorized. It was set in 1938 with the regular technology of that era - with gadgets. The Sci-fi parts were pretty cool.

It was visually very interesting - we both enjoyed it - and it had some comical parts as well as some gore, romance and suspense. :D
