Yes, I unfortunately missed that one but I believe it was based on a Ray Bradbury novel. I am probably going to buy it on DVD.

I had a Christian Bale weekend. I saw Batman Begins and it was awesome. There were a few things to pick about it, but honestly I think it's just me being picky and not anything bad about the movie. Overall it was very good, the most interesting and realistic one of the series.
I also saw the Machinist. It was very good. If you can get over the fact that he looks terrifying and like he's dying of cancer or something. The amount of weight he lost looks even more than 60-something, he was just barely there. But the movie itself was really good, kept you sort of guessing til the end. If you like anime we watched an interesting one called Cat Soup. It has no dialogue, only sounds and music. It is very very strange, but kind of interesting. Nice and short. Definately not for children though. |
Watched a good one last night. The Safety of Objects. It has so many great people in it and the story was interesting. Kind of a sad one though, so if you don't like sad movies you may want to pass on it.

I rented a really good movie last weekend, Ordinary Heroes , with Sigourney Weaver , Emile Hirsch , Michelle Williams . Very good , very sad . It was a good sunday afternoon , curl up in a blanket and cry kind of movie. The rain outside really made it even sadder. :(

Batman Begins was great! :D IMHO it was the best of the modern Batman entries. Story was good, character development was good, gadgets were good.
Christian Bale did an excellent job - I hope they use him again if they do another one. Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Rutger Hauer and Michael Caine were great in their roles too. Katie Holmes was okay but her role could have been played by anyone really. I don't dislike her but I just find her acting is so-so. If they continue the franchise I hope the same actors play the same essential characters they really brought that mix of fighting evil, doing the right thing but having some wit and humour to the film. In fact I would actually pay to go see this film again and I will buy the DVD for my collection. I am going to see Land of the Dead tonight -Yahoo Zombies! :cb: |
We liked Madagascar and the league of gentlemans apocalypse
|
Land of the Dead was pretty good :)
I am just about to watch Session 9 on IFC - hope it is good :crossed: |
I loved session 9. i thought it was thoroughly creepy in all the right ways. seriously loved that movie. :)
watched liberty heights and it was MEH. just kinda all over the place, it was like watching 3 movies in one, too many seperate plots. its a period piece and it has ben foster which is why i liked it. it's about being jewish in the 50's when integration in schools was happening and black kids were being brought into the schools and the whole "no jews, no coloreds" thing was still in a lot of places. it was interesting but kind of boring too. we plan on watching the life aquatic tonight and maybe in good company. we'll see. :) |
I really liked Session 9, too! I looked up the institution on the Internet... pretty interesting.
|
I thought the Life Aquatic was good but I liked the Royal Tennebaums better. In Good Company was average but the ending was non-hollywood IMO which I found to be good (so I rate a little higher than average for that :) ).
I saw Spirited Away. It's anime. If you haven't seen it, I HIGHLY recommend it. Not only is the story good and the characters good, the imagination aspect is amazing. If you don't like anime, you'll still like this movie. |
Watched "Team America, World Police" the puppets were great, but the movie...well some parts were funny, other parts were just dumb, so I would give it about a 6 on the entertainment scale.
|
Mauv, totally agree with Batman Begins... it's like the "franchise" has been totally reinvented..By far the best yet... and one of the best movies I've seen this year..
Saw War of the Worlds... A good attempt at a remake/reinvention..but fell flat for me. Tom " Coo Coo for Cocoa Puffs " Cruise's acting was "glib" .. Can't wait for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! |
heh. tom cruise glib? i'm shocked and appalled. *LOL*
Land of the Dead was pretty good. Went and saw it last night. I liked Dawn of the dead better myself, but it was still alright. Still haven't watched life aquatic or in good company. also have tha aviator sitting there waiting for us. we have been really neglecting our netflix account lately. I guess winter is more of a movie watching time. |
I liked Dawn of the Dead, the original George Romero creation AND the remake with Ving Rames in it... When I was a kid, I had nightmares of being in a mall.. for the longest time I couldnt figure out where that was coming from..til I remembered the Zombies in the Mall LOL...
Aviator was very good... however, my nephew who is 21 didn't get it ( he had no knowledge of how Howard Hughes was.. his wierdness and contributions to film and aviation...) . |
Aviator was very good. I didn't know anything about Howard Hughes either, and I found it very interesting. I really enjoyed it.
Life Aquatic didn't make it past our 20 minute rule. We allow 20 minutes and if we both hate it, we are done. It was just too dry for my taste. I just couldn't stand it really. We have been watching a show that I really like called House. It's new from this year I think but I just started watching it. It is excellent, I am loving it. Like it better than ER which one of my faves. |
