Amyjo01 12-30-2004 12:24 PM

I am not going to weigh in until I am off TOM... Started this AM.

If the scale stays true I will be 155- I would like to lose 15 in January since I have a Ball to go to on January 29 and would like to buy a new ball gown in several sizes smaller than right now, but I am going to shoot for 2 pounds a week so that is 7 or 8 pounds.

I will post official weight on Monday-

Other goals for the month is walk every day that I am off- 3 to 4 times a week.
Increase my water intake.

Amy

lizziness 01-02-2005 03:30 AM

This time I'm actually going to join you in a challenge!

Start Weight: 225ish

Loss goal: no real weight loss goal, but 5 lbs would be nice.

Personal goal: I want to instate my new lower calorie/fat/bad carbs/cook once a month and freeze meals diet. I got a book on how to do it and everything.

I also want to work myself up to a solid twice a week at the gym. I'm starting small, otherwise nothing will get done.

Sojourner 01-02-2005 12:20 PM

Me too!!

Well, I just posted my mini-success story on the 2004 Accomplishments thread. :) I am ready to tackle January full force! My goal is to lose 6 pounds this month.

Here are the stats and the plan (these have been my guidelines for the last six weeks which helped me lose 12 1/2 pounds over the holidays):

Goal
Jan 1 Weight: 170 pounds
Jan 31 Goal: 164 pounds

Exercise
Aerobic activity (mainly run, bike, swim, kickboxing) 3 to 4 times a week, 30 to 60 minutes
Strength training 2 times a week (divided by upper and lower)
Sign up for Belly Dancing class :)

Nutrition
Track calories and limit to 1300 - 1600 per day
Eat 4 to 5 meals per day
Drink at least 64 oz water each day
Add protein to each meal
More whole grains/veggies/fruit & fewer refined flour products & sugars
No food is off limits as long as I stay within daily calorie range
One meal a week eat whatever I want in unlimited quantity

Mind
Weight loss comes to down to my own choices.
I am in control of my body and my food choices.
I will choose to exercise as planned no matter how tired or lousy I feel.
I will not disrespect myself, cheat myself, lie to myself, or hurt myself any longer.
I will learn from my mistakes and make better choices next time.
I can and will be and am successful.

mauvaisroux 01-02-2005 12:26 PM

Well Saturday was the last day of bad eating for me. It all seemed to go downhill between Christmas and New Years Eve

So today I am throwing out any leftover goodies, chips and Christmas baking, making up a menu for next week and a grocery list of healthy OP foods. I can't grocery shop fully until Tuesday since we are getting a new fridge delivered that day. It kind of gives me an incentive to fill it full of good food :D

Trixi 01-03-2005 12:17 PM

Was MIA (think I got lost in the kitchen)

Hello girls! I know I have been missing and I hope you are all doing well. Those holidays were a killer, gained 5 pounds. Had a great time but now it's back to working!

I am ready for another challenge and it being a small one, I might be able to complete it. My goals for January are as follows

Start Weight 147
January 31 weight 140

No alcohal for the entire month of January (okay starting today Jan 3)
Exercise at least three times a week
Drink the necessary water

Take Care!

Amyjo01 01-03-2005 12:40 PM

Bahhhhh

I am up 4 pounds this AM... I had a bad weekend eating a combination of holiday and TOM. I have been real good during my TOM lately but this weekend got the best of me. SO I will start this challenge out at 159 and I am going to go for 150 because I still feel like I am retaining fluid.

Goals for the month get back on track and stay OP.
Exercise at least 30 minutes on my days off.
Up my H2O intake.

Amy

SeeCat 01-03-2005 02:33 PM

Count me in

Jan 3rd Weight: 153
Jan 31st Goal: 149

Personal Goal: try to stop eating sugar and exercise at least three times a week

mauvaisroux 01-04-2005 09:29 AM

Well I went back to ww last night after missing 5 weeks and I am up 5lbs :p

I have planned out my menu for the week and I am grocery shopping tomorrow. :)

Trixi 01-04-2005 10:19 AM

Maux,

Looks like alot of us are in the same boat right now. Makes for nice company I think.

Didn't do the exercise yesterday so today's got to be the day. I still have to do the grocery thing as well.

Dale

tljl 01-04-2005 12:09 PM

mind if i join in

i was reading your posts for the Jan challenge, and got motivated to set a goal. I think what did it is that several of are really close to my own weight (and i think strong bad is funny)

So if its ok with you guys I'm in.

Start weight: 192 lbs (sorta)

loss goal: 5lbs

Personal challenge: to start going back to the gym...my motivation the gym has cable and i don't. I need to get hooked on a cable show so i will drag my bum to the gym to watch it. Anyone have any suggestions?

I really really really never want to see the 190's on the scale ever again

solarmama 01-04-2005 01:10 PM

Welcome, Tljl - of course you can join in!

Here's my update...

weight is down to 226 today, hurrah!

did WATP on Jan 1 & 2, and did it before supper last night as well, yipee!

I started the SBD phase 1 on 12/28/04 (the short story: very limited carbs, high protein & vegetables) and I'm feeling okay. The problem was because it was New Year's, I cheated at least once per day, and didn't see much weight loss. So, I've decided to consider 1/2/04 the real beginning date, and continue on out to 1/15/04, oy! But I'm happy that weight seems to be coming off, and I'm not desperately starving. I hope, I hope, I hope this is a plan I can live with - I have issues with percieved deprivation; whether I'm really depriving myself or not, if I THINK I am, I tend to binge. But since I haven't been really hungry, and I can pretty much snack all I want on veggies and hummus (Which is something I would snack on anyway) I don't know if that will come up. I decided before I ever started that I would cheat with a piece of my favorite chocolate (Maya Gold, mmmm *eyes roll up in head*) every night, and that has been really great, I recommend it.

Well, that's all I'm gonna say about that.
Ciao!
Solarmama

mauvaisroux 01-04-2005 01:15 PM

Welcome tljl!

Well so far, so good today. I had an OP brekkie, an OP lunch and have had 3 of the 8 glasses of water I am supposed to be drinkin. I also went for a walk outside today at lunch time :)

solarmama 01-04-2005 01:18 PM

Sojourner, I think you're my hero! Rock on, Grrl!

Mauvais, how'd the shopping go? Didja cram your crisper full?

Liziness - what book did you get to help with your "cook once a month and freeze" plan? Sounds like something I could use.

Ciao again!
Solarmama

NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS THIN FEELS![I]

krissyp77 01-04-2005 01:49 PM

Hi There...
My name is Krissy. I would like to join this challenge as well....better late than never, right?

Height 5'6"
Highest Weight: 194lbs
Start weight: 189lbs
Loss goal: 6lbs
Personal Challenge: I'm starting to count calories. I am also keeping a journal of what i eat everyday.

mauvaisroux 01-04-2005 04:40 PM

Welcome Sweetpea and Krissy!

I have been hungry all day today :( I have eaten completely op but I guess because of my snacking over the holidays my body is complaining about not getting it's usual feed on - well it will have to get used to it :drill:

Oh,sweetpea 01-04-2005 05:14 PM

Fellow January Challengers

Just thought I'd share an idea with all of you.

To help me get through the "tough moments", I purchased a little photo album (cheap!) that holds 40 4x6 pictures. In each page I put different things that remind me of my goals, such as:
-Quotation and Saying
-15 minutes quick jobs to do around the house (clean a drawer, wash a window, sweep down the steps)
-personal luxury ideas (paint toenail, take a bubble bath, moisturize my face)
-photos of me in my "thinner" days and of loved ones
-funny Cartoons
-Reasons for Healthy Living
-Rewards (pics of vacation destinations, titles of book to read, pics of clothing from catalogs)

You can be very creative. Whenever I feel "weak" or tempted, or am trying to talk myself out of exercising, I pick it up for inspiration. It helps me a LOT. Plus you can add to it or change pages as you go along
Sweetpea :^:

SeeCat 01-04-2005 05:23 PM

So, I have a little plan to infuse more activity in each day. I work on the first floor of a three story building, so I do not have to use any stairs. However there are two stairwells in the building and one is right next to the rest rooms while the other is near my office. I am going to try to require myself to go up and down the stairs every time I walk to the restroom. So, three flights to get there and three flights to get back. We shall she how that goes.

tljl 01-04-2005 06:22 PM

hey

I love the idea about the picture book. I am very good at talking myself out of exercise and into eating things i shouldn't. It would be great to have something that could remind me of other things to do when I'm bored (other than eating) but those little things sound great.

I will put in my book

Paint toe nails
take a bath
facial
have sex (i forget about this option all the time :cb: :cb: )
read
go for walk
call a freind
call my mom
moisturize (very dry and cold here)

hhhmmmm can't think of anything else right now

i have also been doing the 'lets sneak in some exercise'. i am guiltily addicted to Dr. Phil :sssh: so i thought if i watch some bad tv i should at least try do get a little exercise. So the rule is if i am watching it i have to keep moving. i am doing a walking in one spot thing and going up and down stairs on the commercials. LOL :p

stay strong ladies...WE WILL MEET OUR GOALS!!! :strong:

krissyp77 01-04-2005 07:01 PM

Hi ladies...

Thats a great idea sweatpea. I think i will do that picture album idea too. I was wondering if anyone knows how to track this thread, so i don't have to try to search for it everytime i log on...or am i doing something wrong??
Thanks

mauvaisroux 01-04-2005 07:08 PM

No you are not doing anything wrong :D

As the moderator I have the power to make this a sticky at the top of the page so I will do just that that way it will be near the top or among the first 5 threads all the time :wizard:

solarmama 01-05-2005 12:03 PM

Hi there,

Quick check-in: 225.4 today! (I weigh every day and track my "true weight" with a palm program that calculates the 'weighted moving average.' Makes it fun to be losing, becuase you get to see every day how you're doing, but your 'true weight' lags behind your daily weights by about two pounds, usually.)

Sweatpea, what a neat idea for motivation! Sounds like many of the ladies like it, too.

I don't actually have TV service, but I like the idea of exercising while watching. Maybe my MST3K DVD's count as trashy enough that I should keep moving while watching... I'll try it. :D

Be well!
Solarmama

krissyp77 01-05-2005 01:34 PM

Great ....Thank you Mauvaisroux...now i can figure it out!!

Not much new today. I got this step counter, so i have been trying to walk more often to see if it is accurate. I took my dog for about a 45min walk, and it says i took 2933 steps/walked 0.973miles,and burned 121.4 Cals. So i have no idea if that is right or not. But i guess either way the walking is good.lol.

Trixi 01-05-2005 01:42 PM

Good Afternoon everyone!

One of my goals is going to be posting everyday. I have got into the habit of not logging on and I find those are the days I don't do very well.

I too have got to start the daily journal again in order to keep me motivated. I really do want to accomplish this goal. I WILL accomplish this goal!

have a greay day!

Dale

mauvaisroux 01-05-2005 02:02 PM

Well I did manage to journal yesterday! :D and I have manage to stay OP today so far :dancer:

My WW said she hated the trackers they give you and never ended up using them. Instead she uses pretty floral bound journals that people have given her as gifts and she says it seems to encourage her to track her points. I think I will do that too and I will go pick up a journal at lunch time - chapters has them on at 1/2 off right now so I should be able to find something. :D

Oh,sweetpea 01-05-2005 05:56 PM

Hi Fellow Challange Buddies!

Good day today. Trying out the Windsor Pilates DVD's. ((THIS is going to take a LOOOOOOG time to master! haha)) Weather is totally awful here in Southern Ohio...MAJOR flooding. I had to drive 45 out of my way to get home today! So, I am confined to the treadmill (b-o-r-i-n-g). I liked Solarmama's idea about watching DVD's, so I picked up some at the library today. I figure I could watch a part of the movie, then maybe be motivated to tune in tomorrow to watch the conclusion! (kinda like watching soaps!)

I know weighing in every day is "taboo", but it helps me. If I gain weight I just work a little harder.

I love stopping in here to get a boost from all of you. My "weak" time is in the evening, so it's great to come here, read how everyone is doing, and to write. (Keeps my hands busy!)

I don't know about all of you....but I am usually the last on the list to be "taken" care of. I am too busy "taking" care of everyone else! So, I am trying to give myself a little mini reward every night. It keeps my mind occupied (and off of cheating!) to think about what that reward will be.

Everyone...think positive thoughts!

Sweetpea :^:

Paisley 01-05-2005 09:24 PM

Hi, I wandered over here from the other forums, and I'd like to join the January challenge (I know I'm a bit late).

Start Weight: 187 (on Dec 31st)

Loss goal: 179.9 (um, I just really really want to break my ever-elusive 180 barrier)

Personal goal: I want to continue my winter break work out habits when I go back to work on the 10th.

krissyp77 01-06-2005 10:56 AM

Hi Paisley....

Well im not going for a walk today....its freezing out. We got snow here lastnight. First snow of the year... So i have this old Cindy Crawford workout video that a friend gave to me. I tried it yesterday, oh man....i am soo sore today. I didn't realize how out of shape im in. I figured it wasn't that bad....i go to the gym, work out on the different machines. But this was a different type of workout. If im sore it must be working....lol.
Have a good day everyone.

Amyjo01 01-06-2005 02:21 PM

Came home a little early from work yesterday... 20 minutes but I felt like I had been hit by a car. I ended up calling in this AM which is a rarity for me- but might help me make goal with the nausea/diarrhea thing going. I hate being sick. I am at 156.5 this AM. Will wait til Monday to change weight tho....

Paisley 01-06-2005 04:57 PM

Hi everyone! I stopped in earlier and saw some people made a january challenge tracker--which is a great idea!!

I weighed myself today--185 (that's down just over a lb). . .and hopefully that'll reflect in my weekly weigh-in on Sunday. I've got 6lbs to go to reach my january goal. I'm going on a walk today, longer than yesterday to help me get there.

Good luck all!

tljl 01-06-2005 05:21 PM

good day bad day

hi all

I am so happy to see that all of you are doing so well. Congrats Ladies!
you all deserve a big hug.

I have had a couple of really good days and one not so good one.

Good days
-tracked my food intake
-drank a tone of tea
-waked during Dr. Phil  (husband walked in and laughed)
I overall felt really good, not hungry and proud of myself

Bad Day
-started really good tracked what I ate
-went to gym

here comes bad part of day

-went to inlaws and ate a tone of crapy food

really od feels like your mind has been taken over. and you just can't stop yourself

-on the plus side I wrote down everything I ate and calculated all the calories (forced myself to do this, was in denial about number of actual calories) What an eye opener  I was like 900 calories over AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

so the bad day had some positive things about it, but i really felt like total crap that I did that.

Today has been much better and I plan to go to the gym again today.

I CAN DO THIS!!!

Keep it up guys! remember your not alone

Oh,sweetpea 01-06-2005 09:31 PM

Half Way There~

hi Gang,

I had a good day staying on the diet. Treadmilled (to the first 30 minutes of the movie NOTORIOUS...tuning in tomorrow for another installment :) ) I am a bit shy on getting all my water in. Too late in the evening to get it in (don't want to be up all night running to the potty!)

Hubby and the boys made popcorn (my one vice), and I had to dig deep for some determination. I got out some clothing catalogs and mentally shopped until they ate the last kernal! I'm doing very well with staying on my diet, but get up sluggish which make it really hard to get motivated to walk.

My mini reward for tonight is to go to bed early with a new big I picked up from the library, which is a luxury for me since I usually am still doing housework at this hour (9pm)!!

High Fives to everyone...
tomorrow is a new day and the only day you need to worry about.
Sweethpea :^:

KnittinKitten 01-06-2005 10:39 PM

ok so i know i'm a few days late but i just found this great website today!
so if it's not too much of a bother can i please join?

my weight goal is to lose 6 pounds.

and my personal goal is to keep up with my diet and exercise even though i have a 24 hour semester of college ahead of me!

Paisley 01-07-2005 12:55 AM

Hi Kitten! College is stressful, but what a great goal!

Sweetpea, I don't know how you had that willpower--no popcorn. You must have felt really good when you saw that you had handled that temptation SO well!

TJ--I admire your determination->logging your food and facing the calorie count, when it's so much easier to pretend nothing happened. You're amazing!

lizziness 01-07-2005 01:42 AM

sorry, i lost this thread somehow. whoever couldn't find it cause it was below... well i couldn't find it cause it was above. always forget about the stickies, don't even look at them. *LOL*

solar - the book i got is called "Frozen Assets Lite & Easy.. cook for a day eat for a month" it's by Deborah Taylor Hough. It's pretty small, and may not suit your exact diet, but it gives a lot of tips on freezing and how long things last and how to partially cook things. I'm finding it very informitive. In two weeks when we do our monthly grocery shopping, i'm going to try it out and see. I'll give you my real opinion then.

Well, turns out we didn't have the money yet to start getting the better food. We're in the using up the rest of the crap food phase. I am so sick of it though, I really am getting mentally prepared for healthy foods again. I only exercised once this week again, and I'm not even going to think about my weight. I guess I'm not in the place I thought I was. Still going to keep myself in the challenge though, to at least inspire me. Even if I cant meet my goal.

Congratulations to you guys who are working it and having success. I hope to be counted among you soon.
