Plateau

Well, after twenty-four miserable days of a weight plateau (hovering between 169 and 170), I am so happy that I finally dropped to 168 today. This weekend I ate a little more than usual (birthday weekend), and then cut back down to 1300. That seemed to do the trick. Its so confusing knowing how much to eat. I have been working out SO hard that I was concerned about my body thinking it was starving, so I had upped my cals a couple hundred. Well since doing that I was stuck. Hopefully I will continue dropping now that I am back at 1300. I am bummed that I will probably not meet my January goal, unless I can lost four pounds this week which would be pretty significant at this stage of the game. But who knows??

How many cals are other people eating? What works the best? I am trying to up my protein intake to 100 grams a day, which is a challenge for me. I can't do the low-carb diet as it makes me crazy. Trying to eat more veggies, fruits, and whole grains and of course more water.

Sojourner 01-25-2005 02:32 PM

Wow!

Forgot to say that as of today I am officially down 30 pounds from my highest weight! Now that is definitely a milestone for me, and the most weight I have ever lost. Whoo hooo!!!

mauvaisroux 01-25-2005 02:38 PM

No- I think we loaned those to some friends.......:lol3:

Congratulations on the 30lb loss Sojo! :bravo:

Sounds like everyone is doing great! Congratulations on everyone's goals. I have one more pound to go to make my January Challenge. I have a tough weekend coming up (birthday weekend at my inlaw's). We're also celebrating Christmas since we couldn't get there during the holidays because of the weather. So I have to fight off birthday cake and holiday cookies and candys (my m-i-l said she froze them so we wouldn't miss out!)

tljl 01-25-2005 06:12 PM

hey everyone

glad to here we are all still on track. At the end of the month we going to have to add all our totals (see how much we have lost as a group)

I have been doing ok. I am feeling the winter blahs, and haven't really left my house for almost 2 weeks(I do most of my work from home). We went out for the first time yesterday to the forks market. We walked around...it was very difficult making it past the fudge without going crazy. I did it (good thing its soooo expensive) I know i need to get out a lot more. We are going to the gym tonight. Yeah me! I really want to lose that last pound and meet my goal :strong: I really like the small steps thinking.

I haven't logged my food fo a couple days. I was working crazy long hours (19 straight away from home) and it totally threw me off. I did try to make good choices, but i know I could have done better. I am back to it today, which makes me very happy.

On the plus side when we were out I bought a new pair of jeans that are size 13....not 22...not 20 or 18....amazing a size 13. They actually look smaller. I never ever want to go back. Now if I could only get my breasts to shrink. Hmmmm :chin:

I know I can make my January goal! I can't wait to set a February one!

T

ellis 01-25-2005 08:25 PM

Oh, Sweetpea, is that you!?!? You are a BABE, girl!

Tljl, I'll trade my small breasts for your size 13 butt. :lol3:

Oh,sweetpea 01-26-2005 11:45 AM

Good Morning...

Hi Girls,

My scales seems to be stuck these past few days. I have been exercising and staying on my diet and.... NUTHIN! I am determined not to get frustrated, so I am "tweaking" things and trying to get rid of that last pound by Friday. I have to go to my inlaws this weekend for several birthday celebrations and we haven't had Christmas with them yet....which means cakes and cookies and candy. I am packing my salad fixings and my gym gear, even though my mother in law will grump about it.

Here's a little thing to do whenever you are driving. Sit up straight in your car seat and imagine pulling in your belly button until it "touches" your spine. KEEP BREATHING NATURALLY, and hold that postion to the of 10. Then relax. Do it five times...then increase every few days. I put a sticky note on my steering wheel to remind me to do it. You can also do the KEGEL excercise while driving, too. I am really "into" anything that will improve my posture and strengthen my "inner core" as I am slouching alot as I am aging.

Ellis: Thanks...yep that's me this past summer. Took me awhile to figure out how to post a picture. And good idea about wearing your gym clothes to clean house in. I have to lay mine out and put them one IMMEDIATELY when I get out of bed, so I don't dally later making my way back to my room to get dressed. I have do my exercising FIRST THING in the morning, or I get busy and put it off...then feel quilty...then get depressed...and chuck the whole thing.

T: I hear ya about the winter "blahs". Sometimes, I feel like a bear in hibernation. It's a good time, though, to catch up on reading, or cleaning closets, or pampering yourself (BUT NOT WITH FOOD!). Because if you are like I am, when the weather breaks, there is so much more work to do. I'd like to know what your secret is to keeping your breasts "pumped" up...I know the first 5 pounds I lose it ALWAYS in that area. I am "blessed" with a pear shape (thanks mom!).

Sojo: Congrats for BUSTING through that plateau. Gives me hope as I am stuck on one right now. "keep going, keep going, keep going!" As for protein...I am always concerned that I am getting enough. I had a scare when I was on a very low calorie diet, first thing to go was meat. My hair started falling out and I realized that I wasn't really getting enough protein...so of all the nutritional requirements..I really watch my protein level. I try to get 100 grams in a day. To do so, without adding a lot more calories, I supplement my diet with Advant-Edge shakes. They are only 110 calories, but they give you 15 grams of protein. I don't know of many "snacks" or deserts, that are sweet like a milkshake, have only 110 calories, and give you more protein per serving than any other food.

Solarmama: Good news about your BP. And for getting back OP!!

Mauv: What dance class are you taking? That sound like fun! When I am in a "schleppy" mood, I pop in a dance CD and the beat makes me more energetic.

Den: How are you doing?? Please report!

Kitten: Great job! You're inspiring us all to make our challenges, too!

Karen: Welcome! Seems you are really on the ball! What exercise you are doing?

shoequeen69 01-26-2005 12:33 PM

Hey Mauv! I just now saw this thread. Are you going to do a February thread? I want to lose 20 pounds by my birthday in July. I'd like to lose 4 pounds a month. I'm just now getting started. Maybe by Feb. I can be full swing. Hope to see you all then. Later - Amy

P.S. Love your new avatars Mauv and Amyjo!

mauvaisroux 01-26-2005 01:17 PM

Hi shoequeen! Thanks for the compliment! :D

And yes there will be a February challenge starting on Monday, February 1st. I will post the new thread on Saturday or Sunday.

karen13 01-26-2005 02:51 PM

Hey ladies. Well, two days from my second weigh in, I hope I'm down some more and I hope I remember to go to the bathroom before the meeting this time. I play volleyball probably 2-3 times a week, and I'm trying to start Windsor Pilates (try being the key word there). Sounds like everyone's doing great on their goals. I admire those of you that are in the habit of working out. Used to be I could only eat welll, or exercise everyday. One or the other. I'm hoping to break that cycle and do both.
Has anyone ever heard of Punk Rock Aerobics? They don't have a video yet, but it sounds really cool. Now that's a class I could enjoy going to every week. The only problem is, they don't have it around here. My town's way to conservative, blech! Anybody have it where they live?

mauvaisroux 01-27-2005 09:57 AM

We used to have punk rock aerobics at a local bar on Sundays ...not sure if they still do it - sounded like it was fun from what I heard from a couple of friends. :)

Good luck with your weigh-in! :lucky:

SeeCat 01-27-2005 12:23 PM

There is no way I am going to meet my January goal, but the good news is that after a month and a half long plateau I am down a pound, so I am pretty happy regardless and still on track generally speaking.

Wow, it looks like folks are going strong.

Punk rock aerobics sounds like a great idea.

tljl 01-27-2005 12:54 PM

I Made It To My Goal!!!

I MADE IT TO MY GOAL!!!

I am so happy! I can't remember the last time my scale had a number that low...... I am grinning from ear to ear.

I am going out today to reward myself. I have had my eye on a really nice sweater. I am going to WALK to the store later and get it.

This past month has really been a journey of self discovery. I don't deel out of control like I have in the past. I don't feel like i haven't been able to eat the foods I want or felt like I was hungry at any time. I feel like i have made some really comfortable lifestyle changes that are working.

I couldn't have done it with out all of you.
Thanks sooooooooo much!

TLJL Rocks Some More! Go T - Go T - Go, go, go T!

WAY TO GO, TLJL!

Hey - you're welcome; remember YOU did it! We just listened and nodded, and perhaps prodded at times. But it was your choices and your decision to make this happen, so be proud!

I don't think I'll be making my goal, but I will be pretty close, which is excellent - I feel pretty proud too! Yay!

Solarmama

Oh,sweetpea 01-27-2005 06:47 PM

hi girls,

Having a good day..as good days go. Nearing the end of the January Challenge and still have a pound to go. BUT I WILL DO IT!

Karen: I have never heard of punk rock aerobics, but I like the idea! If there ever is a video produced, let us know! I have the Windsor Pilates DVDs and, boy, it is harder than it looks!

SeeCat: Glad to hear you are off your plateau. Think positive, February is right around the corner - fresh start, new beginnings.

T: GOOD FOR YOU! Now matter how we get there - baby steps or big steps - it's all good. Congratulation! You sound like you have learned a lot of new things about yourself this month - what things helped you, what lessons you learned from mistakes, etc. Add them to your arsonal of personal knowledge and growth and they will help you with the next phase. Hugs!

Solarmama: I agree with you. Even if we don't make our goals, anything we learn about ourselves on this journey is positive, even if it is learning from wrong choices. It just makes us stronger in the next round.

Morrganna 01-28-2005 08:53 AM

Well I met the 5 pound challenge, but only because I'm sick with pneumia, and have zero appitite. I went to emerg Wed and had a lung xray, and one lung is full of pneumia. The antibiotic the doctor prescribed me gave me an allergic reaction, so back to emerg I had to go. I'm on track now, just ate 2 toasted malt breads with some cheddar on top. Now I'm going back to bed, to listen to my lungs moan and crackle! I hate being sick, I make a miserable invalid.

mauvaisroux 01-28-2005 10:06 AM

T- Crongatulations!!!!! :bravo: you are off to a great start for the year!

Seecat: plateaus suck - glad you have started moving off yours :cp:

Go karen! :cheer:

Morrganna: sorry to hear you are sick - get better soon! :grouphug:

I am down 4 out of 5lbs for the challenge - I am going to work had this weekend end at losing that lat lb! :cb:

Instead of eating out tonight like DH and I usually do I am making a mushroom and gorgonzola cheese pasta dish that fits in my point range :chef:

Oh,sweetpea 01-28-2005 01:49 PM

Tgif!!

Just wanted to say...have a good weekend, all. I am off to my inlaws for the weekend of birthday celebrations. :hb: I have been meditating all day to get into a good frame of mind....and be strong against temptations.

Mauv: I am working on that laaaaaast pound, too. Your dinner sounds yummy! :T

Morrganna: GET WELL SOON! :goodvibes

**See my previous post for notes to the rest of you all. :)

mauvaisroux 01-28-2005 02:46 PM

Enjoy your birthday celebrations! :hb: :gift: :balloons:

Morrganna 01-28-2005 02:49 PM

I think I'll make something with chicken and sausages and veggies. With a spicy sauce. And rice. That would be nice. Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! I'm laying low, and might rent a dvd for tonight.

karen13 01-28-2005 03:37 PM

Hello ladies. Another weigh in today. I am down 6lbs. Hurray. I have been skimping on the exercise, though, and did not meet my personal goal of 20 minutes a day. I did the last two days of exercise, though, and plan to do Pilates tonight, tomorrow and Sunday, so there's hope yet. One more lb to meet my weight loss goal for January. Sweet Pea and Mauvaisroux, looks like we're in that same boat with this last stupid pound. Good luck to us this weekend. Morrganna, I hope you feel better. Laying low is smart, don't want to overdo it and make yourself worse.

mauvaisroux 01-30-2005 10:32 AM

Congratulations on the 6lbs Karen!!!! :cp:

Hope you are feeling better Morrganna :)

Well I made the fettucine with gorgonzola cheese and mushroom sauce on Firday and my DH and I really enjoyed it :T If anyone is interested in the recipe it is under the 3FC low fat recipes - meatless entrees - section on the main page :D

dentrassi 01-30-2005 03:01 PM

Hi All!!! I pretty much blew off January, but I want to get going for a February challenge. I've been lying around under the covers a lot for the past month! Friday night i went to bed at 6:30 am, woke up at 2 am, fell back to sleep at 3 am, and slept until 7!! I've been feeling more awake since then, so I obviously needed it, but YEESH!!!

Congratulations to all you losers!! AND you those of you who are plateauing. You are STILL sticking with it, and that in and of itself is a VICTORY!! You are all an inspiration, and watching your successes is part of the reason I am getting up off the couch to join you. THANKS!

Morrganna-Hope you feel better! Pneumonia is NASTY, but the allergic reaction on top of it must have really left you wiped out.

Morrganna 01-30-2005 04:31 PM

Healing, healing. I'm fine walking around but stairs leave me gasping and coughing. It's a drag. Makes me appreciate my usual lung capacity, and makes me want to start to run again, in the spring. Food is tasting better too, so soon I'll be more enthusiastic about making soups and dinners. The weather has finally become a balmy minus 2c, such a treat after the nasty cold we've been having. Two youngest children have left their speeches until the last possible minute, not nice, so a lot of today has been taken up with moans and groans from them and typing from me. Hope every one else has had a great weekend.

mauvaisroux 01-30-2005 07:31 PM

I started a new challenge thread for February but will leave this one open until Feb 2. so that people can still post January results and review their goals. :)

karen13 01-31-2005 11:14 AM

I lost another 1/2lb. this weekend bringing my total for January to 6.5lbs. But I missed my challenge by 1/2 a lb. That sucks. My personal goal of 20 minutes of exercise a day was sporatic, too. Hoping to make it up in February. Congratulations to everyone who met their challenge!

tljl 01-31-2005 11:44 AM

Big congrats to all, losers and not. Everyone did a lot of work this month and should be proud....one day at a time.

I had one of those weekends....blah.... a baby shower with lots of deserts did me in. I am finding that I can do really well in my own home, but don't let me out in public. I am putting the weekend behind me and starting new.(again)

Creating new habits is sure hard.

I am moving on to the Feb. challenge and look forward to saying goodbye to another 5 lbs.

T

lizziness 01-31-2005 01:10 PM

Well, I was thinking I didn't make my goal, but it turns out, my goal was set so low I DID make it. I did manage to get myself up to two days per week at the gym, actually did 3 days last week. And I did get all my meals cooked and I am prepared all the way through February. Time to think up a new goal and post on the new thread!

Great job ladies, and thanks for always being an inspiration.

Oh,sweetpea 01-31-2005 02:44 PM

Hi All...

Well, I didn't make my January Challenge by ONE POUND! It and I have gone round and round all week and it is being sooooo stubborn! Of course I technically have until MIDNIGHT tonight, RIGHT??? I still feel victorious, though, because I had some tough challenges this month...left over holiday treats, a vacation, numerous birthday celebrations, several dinners out...and I only fell off my program once. I learned some things from that "goof up" and will take that with me into the February Challenge. I also learned a few things about my body...when it's best to exercise, what "tricks" I can play on the hunger-monster (CHEW GUM!), and that I am worth a reward or two, even if it means hanging up the mommy and the Mrs. hats for a night to soak in the tub, reading a trashy novel!

Congratulations to EVERYONE on this challenge. Whether you made your challenges (high fives!!!) or came close ...or just spent the month getting your head together....you are still here, still forging ahead with the rest of us...hopefully, learning more about yourself and how to become "master" over your body (and not the other way around!). Even baby steps are forward motion...heck, just facing forward is postive motion!

Thanks for all your support and friendship. The biggest thing I "gained" this month was new friendships...really great women who have the best shoulders to cry on...and are so compationate to each other. Me...and my extra pound (if it keeps hanging around, I will have to give it a NAME!! lol) will see you in the February Challenge!

Sweetpea :^:

Amyjo01 01-31-2005 03:02 PM

Well I lost 6 of my 9 pounds of my January Goal. I can not complain. I really wish I had been a little more on track as far as exercise but I am doing well with my eating and water intake so that is a good baby step.

Congrats to all that made goal and to those who almost made goal...

KnittinKitten 02-01-2005 08:42 PM

well i surpassed my goal by several pounds! and have definately fit working out into my life! all in all a good time!

mauvaisroux 02-02-2005 07:38 AM

Congratulations to everyone who lost and/or changed something in their lifestyle! :bravo:

I am closing this thread so we can get on with the February Challenge! :D
