Summer fling!

No we are not talking about a holiday romance here

Okay...who is up for another home clearing out session?

Let's clear our homes and bless someone else with the goodies that we no longer use or don't have the space for. :D

Let the flinging begin!:cb:

mauvaisroux 07-07-2004 10:49 AM

Okay- so the first thing I am cleaning up is my desk at work :p

I am usually a neat freak with my desk but have been swamped lately. I need to tidy up, do some filing and trashing and dust everything.

Starting right now! :D

Noodles913 07-07-2004 10:53 AM

I donated a bag full of old clothes to the dead and blind people that come by monthly. This time though I got the phone # so whenever I have more donations I can just call and they'll pick up the next day. Oh boy..time to start flinging out even more stuff!! :hyper:

ellis 07-07-2004 10:54 AM

I've got six bags at the front door ready to go to the Sally Ann. :)

lizziness 07-07-2004 01:28 PM

To the dead and blind people? I didn't know dead people needed used clothing. :)

I am preparing to a possible move. So I have been making a plan in my mind so far but haven't done anything. We've got about a million little stuffed animal friends that are going to have to go to a new home... and soon! Whether we move or not! :)
My main focus this month is going to be culling down on non-essential items in our home - like toys and chochkys and duplicate items.
Still striving for the zen-like feeling in our home. Someday... someday we'll get there!

flower 07-07-2004 02:39 PM

Okay, I will go thru my closet this weekend. Even if I get back to size 18's, I didn't LOVE all that stuff. lol

blugirrl1 07-07-2004 03:31 PM

well this weekend, i redid my whole desk and all my papers. actually got a second desk fo rmy computer to get it off my bill pay roll top desk. ok ok i know that adding usually means more clutter but in this case think streamlined. :p
still to clean thru 1) my clothes 2) my Daughter's clothes 3)kitchen cabinets 4) laundry room..

I can just see it now...two blind corpses driving the truck..knocking at the door to pick up donations. :lol3:

squeaker 07-07-2004 07:14 PM

Ellis - wanna come pick up the bags & boxes I have had ready to go for months, while you are at it?

Goddess Jessica 07-07-2004 11:21 PM

Noodles - I had to read dead and the blind twice. I was like, "WTF does she mean? Zombies come to her house?"

Mauv - No fair teasing me with a summer fling. I was all up for a summer fling challenge. ;)

mauvaisroux 07-11-2004 06:49 PM

I spent Saturday cleaning the kitchen and the front entrance of my apartment.

Vacuumed, dusted, washed all the cupboard doors and counters, as well as the walls and baseboards. Then I cleaned out and rearranged the kitchen cupboards and tossed/donated items I don't use or have duplicates of.

Sunday I did the same thing in the bathroom and then dusted and rearranged the bookshelves in the livingroom.

Phew! Need a nap now....

Noodles913 07-18-2004 12:30 PM

Hey that's exactly what we did yesterday, Mauv!! Cleaned house from top to bottom!! It sparkles...:sunny:

I flinged 75% of my magnets OFF of the fridge. Somehow the kitchen looks bigger now.

Going to fling some more stuff around here today...Out OUT OUT!!!

Then going to try to sell some on the auction sites and take a load to the swap meet. Trying to be clutter-free in 2006!! (Figure it gives me a year to de-clutter every nook and crannie.)

mauvaisroux 07-18-2004 07:15 PM

Did a spring clean of the bedroom on Saturday afternoon - tossed a couple of bags of junk :cb:

Noodles913 07-19-2004 02:24 AM

Filled up 2 more bags for the donation truck!! Yay!!

mauvaisroux 07-20-2004 08:23 PM

Yahooo!!!!! Soon to be flung - our old mattress and box spring set! We finally caved and bought a new mattress set on the weekend and it arrives on Thursday! :cb:

The store will be removing the old set and taking it to a charity that reconditions and cleans the mattresses and then gives them to families in need. :)

ellis 07-21-2004 08:02 AM

Oh, that's cool, Mauvais!
And enjoy your new bed! Try not to bust the damned thing the first night, eh?

mauvaisroux 07-21-2004 09:50 AM

Well DH and I will have to "christen" it " :s:

Teufelchen 07-21-2004 12:32 PM

Way to go Mauv!! You'll no doubt sleep better with the new bed. :cloud9:

I went through all the books in my basement and purged half of them. Whoo hoo. I LOVE books so that was a toughie. :^: Also went through my games and got rid of a goodly portion of them as well.

mauvaisroux 07-21-2004 03:38 PM

Yes...sleep, sweet sleep...:cloud9:

How come you didn't call me to give me some books??!!!???

blugirrl1 07-22-2004 06:00 AM

Mauv, enjoy the new bed. ;) bet you sleep tons better.
well we purged through kiddies clothes this weekend. can you say my kids have way too many clothes? i can and it makes my wardrobe look tiny. lol

mauvaisroux 07-31-2004 09:35 AM

The new bed is awesome- I haven't slept this well in ages!

I have tossed some more junk and have done some shredding this week! :cb:

mette 08-01-2004 06:21 AM

I’m painting my bookshelves white, and in the process of cleaning, painting and reorganizing – I’m also trying to figure out which books and VHS tapes I can give away.
I find that books are hard to give away (even the ones I didn’t like all that much!), but it would be great if somebody else can enjoy them too… :halffull:

blugirrl1 08-01-2004 09:47 AM

Mette, i guard my books. anything else but i just can't get rid of books.
well been flinging my old clothes. and working on a "need to be sewn " pile that had gotten way out of control.

mauvaisroux 08-02-2004 01:39 PM

I've been trying to purge some books - it is so hard to let go :( but I will pass them on so someone else can enjoy them :)

squeaker 08-02-2004 02:16 PM

Everytime I see this thread title, I think, I would love to have a summer fling...

mette 08-02-2004 05:09 PM

I have finished painting - and am in the process of sorting out books. And also sorting and organizing all my papers and stuff from last semester. I need to buy folders.

I've also gone through my closet and taken out all the clothes that are too big for me now. I don’t dare to throw them away just yet though. I think I’ll do this in steps – first from my closet and into storage, then – in a while – from the storage to Goodwill.

I’m looking forward to bookshelves where I can see all the books – and a closet with only clothes that fit.

mauvaisroux 08-03-2004 01:03 PM

Baby steps mette, baby steps :)

mette 08-03-2004 04:56 PM

It’s been harder than I thought to get rid of the clothes actually. I had thought it would be pure joy in “getting rid of the fat clothes for ever” – so it’s a surprise to me that I find it scary. It’s not that the clothes are especially nice or expensive, because they really aren’t. I suppose it’s part the fear of gaining back the weight (I might need these clothes again!), and part the fear of change (these clothes are safe – now what will I wear?).
Yes. Like you said mauvaisroux: baby steps! :^:

Noodles913 08-03-2004 05:00 PM

I just chucked a bag of donation stuff today right out to the curb. They're coming around later to pick stuff up. Like Mauv said..baby steps. :)

mette 08-03-2004 05:08 PM

Well done, Noodles! :cp:

Noodles913 08-03-2004 05:10 PM

Thanks!! I should clarify though that I had this bag around from the last pick-up that never came. Hub was kind enough to go drop it at the curb for me. :smug: But still..it's junk gone!! woohoo!! :cb:

mauvaisroux 08-03-2004 06:01 PM

Good going Noodles-set yourself free!

mauvaisroux 08-05-2004 09:46 AM

Flung some dead plants last night! :)

blugirrl1 08-07-2004 10:17 AM

well i finally did it. flung my old way to big t shirts . tried to do it on the last fling and couldn't lol. Tiki will be so proud. how strange it feels to wear clothes that fit and i can't hide in.

mauvaisroux 08-07-2004 03:13 PM

:bravo: Heather! It is hard to let go of the comfy old stuff but it sure feels good to wear well fitting new stuff! :D

mette 08-09-2004 05:41 AM

Heather – good for you! I’ve done that too: no more big T-shirts at the gym for me – I went and bought T-shirts that actually fit me. And yes, I do have fat on my stomach and on my back – but I still look much better than I did in those huge shirts! ;)

I’ve just delivered 4 plastic bags with books and VHS tapes to the Goodwill. Hopefully somebody will find happiness in my poor homeless books! :p

Noodles913 08-09-2004 06:06 AM

Yesterday we installed new chrome faucets into our bathrooms and the kids bathroom. The ones the builder installed were JUNK!! Cheap o' pieces of crap-they started to corrode! Then we decided to clean OUT the kids bathroom and so she went through a bazillion hair things, "girly" products like make-up, shower gels, etc..and we threw them out! Rest of stuff we'll donate. Today is my master bathrooms turn. Let's see what I can get rid of...OUT!! hehehe :D

mauvaisroux 08-09-2004 07:06 AM

Way to go flingers! :cp:

lizziness 08-09-2004 03:37 PM

Got rid of a ton of old clothes, his and mine, this weekend to make room for some new clothes that we'll probably get this weekend. Yay.
Also, went through the bills and paperwork - again - and brought that to a managable level. And I even went through all my medical billing so I can get reimbursed from my medical expense account. Talk about a pain in the butt! And now it's done.
