August chat

Gee, can't believe it is August already!

I am going on vacation in a couple of weeks and counting down the days

So far I am having a nice restful low-key weekend :cloud9:

I am talking to a mortgage broker this week so I am keeping my fingers crossed we can get financing for a house :crossed:

ellis- keep your eyes peeled for me in your area  I promise we will be good neighbours and not just drop in on you unannounced! :D

mauvaisroux 08-02-2004 01:38 PM

Hey where is everyone? Off enjoying the sun I suppose!

squeaker 08-02-2004 02:15 PM

I am here, just at work. :) Enjoying a lull. Cleaning my desk and doing some puttering around tasks that need to be done. Enjoyed a minor league baseball game yesterday with a Beatles tribute band after, complete with costumes and wigs. The Bisons beat the Ottawa Lynx 10 - 2. :D

We had a fun day.

Now the rest of the week is dedicated to errands and packing for my California trip on Friday.

Where is this vacation to Mauvais?

dentrassi 08-02-2004 04:53 PM

HEY SQUEAK! We are now going to Guelph Sunday night. Hope you have fun in California!!!

Mauvais-GOOD LUCK on the house mortgage! That is very exciting! Hope you have a great vacation too.

mauvaisroux 08-02-2004 07:03 PM

I am going to Indiannapolis for a convention :)

Have fun in Guelph den!

Boo Bisons! :p

mauvaisroux 08-03-2004 01:02 PM

 So very tired today...I didn't sleep well last night because of the humidity...

Now it is raining here but it doesn't seem to be cooling of any.

I bought a great magazine on the weekend by Style at Home magazine-it features excellent articles on decluttering, maintenance cleaning, seasonal maintenance, making arrangements and packing to move etc. Very handy! :)

ellis 08-03-2004 03:19 PM

I'm here! Hang on...

ellis 08-03-2004 03:24 PM

Mauvais, I'm glad you're planning on staying downtown! I will keep my eyes open. :lucky:
I subscribe to Style at Home... I really like it. They have a lot of articles for people with limited space. (NOT that I have limited space, but I DO have small rooms! )

What the ****, Squeak! The Linx LOST!?!?

Den, have fun in Guelph! Too bad it's not closer... :(

mauvaisroux 08-03-2004 04:08 PM

I found a couple of places for sale on the mls listings -one was "near" Dow's lake and two are in Sandy Hill....I still haven't heard back from Mr. Mortgage Broker  If he doesn't call me by the end of the day I will call him.

hannah_phi 08-04-2004 03:45 PM

I'm just stopping by, practically on my way out of town again. I changed my avatar to a pic of me from a bike ride I took with my dad and stepmom. I'm supposed to say that I rode down that waterfall and skinned my knee in the process. It is just not true, unfortunately, what really happened is that I got my foot caught on the frame because I'm not used to riding a guy's bike and ended up falling. Oh, well...

My trip was fun. I really enjoyed spending time with my younger cousins and also being one of the adults for the first time on one of these family vacations. The last one we did was when I was 14. The lake we stayed at was natural and it was really nice. I think I swam every day, even when it was raining!

mauvaisroux 08-04-2004 09:04 PM

Welcome back hannah- sounds like you had fun! :) (except for the knee scrape- ow! )

mauvaisroux 08-05-2004 09:43 AM

Still waiting to hear from Mr. Mortgage Broker :D I have looked at a couple of houses on-line that seem to have a lot of what we are looking for but I don't want to contact the real estate agent until I know what we can spend.

dentrassi 08-05-2004 03:48 PM

YEESH!! You must be going NUTS Mauvais!!! Waiting for info like that drives me crazy. ESPECIALLY when you are finding houses that you are interested in!!

YUP! I wish that Guelph was closer too. If DS ends up going there, though, maybe I could take an extended visit....hmm....we could crash one of his parties and REALLY embarass him!!

squeaker 08-05-2004 08:17 PM

I hope you hear something soon Mauvais! And find a perfect house! :)

Hannah - glad you had fun!

Den - I hope you enjoy the visit! I am with you for crashing the party! ;)

Ellis - How are you? How is dad?

I am trying to finish packing, since I have now over-packed. :p 5 hours at work tomorrow then I am off for a week.

ellis 08-05-2004 09:16 PM

Cheez! I hope you find out before Saturday, Mauvais! I want you to ENJOY your breakfast!

Thanks, Squeak... :) Dad is doing pretty well. He and Mom (did I already mention this?) moved into the city this week, so I can just walk over to see them now. It's great. (okay, it's a little too close to Mom for my liking, but you can't have everything. :lol3: )
The health care he's getting is WONDERFUL! We couldn't ask for any better.
Their new apartment is really nice, and everything is working out well.
Have a wonderful holiday, sweetie!! :grouphug: (seems to me you're ALWAYS on holiday! )

Hannah, your new pic is GREAT!! So glad you had a good trip!

Den, how ya doin', hon? :D

Where's Heather? :?:

dentrassi 08-05-2004 10:41 PM

Squeak-Hope you have a WONDERFUL time in California!! Wouldn't it be great if ALL the alternachicks could crash his party? He'd NEVER live it down!! ("GEEZ, your mom and her friends are wilder than YOU are!!") But then he might try to out wild us...have to rethink this!!!

Ellis-I wondered how that was working!! Figured there had to be pros and cons to the move!! :dizzy:
I'm feeling GREAT!! Just wish that I didn't have to deal with all the mundane crap now that I'm home!! :kickcan:

Hannah-HI!! I once was here, but then was gone; am back as you can see.
(Think Amazing Grace)

hannah_phi 08-06-2004 10:48 AM

Hi Den! I've not been around that much this summer, but in a few weeks I'll be back in full force. :D

I'm leaving town again tomorrow. This time it's a road trip. DBF and I are driving out to the East Coast for a Bar Mitzva. On the way we'll stop for a week at my dad's, a couple days at my mom's, a day at my g-ma's, a few days at historical Jamestown/Yorktown, a few days in Chincoteague, then finally a few days with my aunt and her family for the Bar Mitzva. The next day we'll drive all the way back here and start school again.

It is going to be so fun! I love road trips. We have eight books on tape and tons of CD's to listen to. Stuff like this is the reason we got a new car. Woo Hoo!

mauvaisroux 08-06-2004 11:05 AM

Yay!:cb: We got a mortgage! I talked to a real estate agent that comes highly recommended by two friends of mine and we meet with him on Sunday to discuss details!

I can't wait to start looking - I'm so excited!

Hope you all have a great weekend on your trips! :D

ellis 08-06-2004 04:10 PM

My dear Den, come and change places with me for a week and I will gladly take over your "mundane crap".

Hannah, have fun on your road trip! Don't EVER have children, because those days will be OVER! :lol3:

Mauvais, I'm so excited for you!! :hat: Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!!

mauvaisroux 08-06-2004 09:22 PM

I'm looking forward to tomorrow too ellis!

mette 08-07-2004 05:20 AM

Hannah, I really like your new avatar – it looks like you’re roughing it out in the wild! Hope you have a nice road trip.

mauvaisroux, congratulations on the mortgage! Good luck on the house-hunting too!

I don’t have anything exciting to report. I’m still not getting anything done – the weather is too nice and I’m spending all the time I can outdoors. Think it’ll rain tomorrow so maybe I get to organize books and stuff then.
Have good weekends everybody!

mauvaisroux 08-07-2004 08:01 AM

Thanks everyone! :) We are meeting with a real estate agent tomorrow to go over the house buying process and discuss what our need are. We need to have a place that will house DH and I and my parents plus our respective cats  We are going looking for a duplex or a house with an in-law-suite.

mette- good for you! - Life is too short to be doing housework while the sun is shining- enjoy the good weather :sunny:

blugirrl1 08-07-2004 10:06 AM

mauvais, congrats on the mortgage. :)
just a quick run through hello. good morning :coffee: getting ready to go grocery shopping. so i am here to check out the newly revamped fab food section,. ;)
life has just been work, work, work. but i am not gaining weight. in fact i suspect i am still slowly losing. between the three scales at work and the one home scale not a one is the same as the other. lol so who knows what i really weigh. of course i will take the lowest. lol

mauvaisroux 08-07-2004 03:24 PM

How is work going Heather? Did your DH find anything permanent yet?

We walked around Chinatown this afternoon and found a couple of places for sale. On the way back we thought we would pick up some Chinese BBQ since this one place had a 2 item special dinner box. So we go in and DH orders and the woman starts piling on BBQ pig feet, beef belly an some other unidentifiable item - which is kind of freaking me out since I was looking at the a la carte menu which listed things like duck tonges, duck innards, beef innards etc. God only knows what is in our dinner boxes! :yikes:

Moral of the story.....When in Chinatown ask questions BEFORE you order

Oh, well I will try some of it anyway- could be good, could be horrible, but if I don't try it I will never know

ellis 08-07-2004 03:36 PM

Oh, Mauvais!
(hey, as far as I'm concerned, ANYTHING is better than eating a Canada Goose!)

mauvaisroux 08-07-2004 04:04 PM

Yeah well we also bought steamed pork buns from Kowloon Market so I think I will be loading up on those instead

flower 08-07-2004 10:06 PM

I am PREGNANT! I did it without the fertility drugs. Which I had already purchased but never started. Irronic. I guess I focus on maintaining and eatting healthy stuff.

dentrassi 08-07-2004 10:36 PM

WOW!! Lots of congratulations in order!!!

Mauvais-Have fun house hunting!!!

Flower-Congratulations on being pregnant!! If you HADN'T bought the fertility drugs you probably WOULDN'T be!! (The universe is really perverse sometimes!!!)

Ellis-I had the day from **** today. DS14 made up for being so calm and agreeable in the UK...ALL IN ONE DAY!!! (At least 2 weeks worth, plus a tad extra just for good measure!!!)

HI HANNAH, HEATHER, AND METTE!!

We are leaving for Guelph tomorrow. Just hope DS the younger shapes up or we may come back with one kid!!! (That's right Ellis, I'm going to mail him to YOU!!!)

mauvaisroux 08-08-2004 12:03 AM

Congratulations Flower! :cb:

Den- have fun in Guelph!

ellis 08-08-2004 08:31 AM

Mette, organizing books sounds heavenly. :) I've GOT to get a bookshelf made on our second floor landing. I've at least a thousand books sitting in boxes on the third floor waiting to be "organized".

Heather, it's good to hear from you! Sorry that life has been so busy lately. :grouphug:

Flower, congratulations! :hat: Take good care of yourself, sweetie!

Den, have fun in Guelph! Hey, I'll take your sons ANYDAY! At least one of them has got to be suitable to marry my DD.

Mauvais, it would be too cool if you got a house in my neighbourhood. :smoking: I REALLY wish I'd bought that doormat yesterday.

Ruthxxx 08-08-2004 08:56 AM

I'll never catch up if I don't get in here more often. South ***** and other stuff has been keeping me busy.
Preggers? House? I am so out of it.
Right now I'm procrastinating but will try to pop in soon.

blugirrl1 08-08-2004 08:58 AM

Sounds like everyone is doing pretty good. :)
Den, i don't know how many times i say DD is going to the next little old grandma that remarks "oh how cute" lol cute she may be but they can't see her lil ol' horns pokin up, I CAN!

Mauvais, i woulda stuck with the steamed buns too, lol . work is work, but i am due to get hired in soon, and train for Quality Control backup, so a little more money, and no hubby hasn't found work, and it is driving me batty. needless to say we disagree a lot.

Flower, Congratulations :)

mette 08-08-2004 11:34 AM

mauvaisroux - so no ‘Chinese BBQ special dinner box’ for dinner????? Man. I’m glad I don’t eat meat! Heh.

Flower – congratulations!!

dentrassi - Hi! And have a nice trip to Guelph!

ellis – book organizing is actually fun for my geeky self. They’re first separated into: graphic, fiction, poetry or non-fiction. Then alphabetized by author. The non-fictions also by theme – because it just makes sense to keep the books on philosophy, popular culture/TV, body/eating, and feminism with other books on that theme.
1000 unorganized books, ellis? Do you want me to come and help you??? :D

ellis 08-08-2004 11:56 AM

Yeah, Ruth... get your butt in here!! :D

Mette, I love organizing mine, too! I've got low bookshelves along the side wall of my living and dining rooms, and they're full of my "good" books. Classics, great works of fiction, etc. I've got mine organized first according to type (philosophy, sociology, Canadian fiction, etc), and then by author. :D Although not alphabetically... I have to work around the height of the shelves.
Once in a while I just sit on the floor in front on my shelves, pull books out at random, read a few lines, and go down memory lane. :)

mauvaisroux 08-08-2004 07:12 PM

Well the box special was awful! :p Filled up on the steamed buns instead :)

mette 08-09-2004 05:52 AM

mauvaisroux – good for you! Go for the buns instead! :D

ellis – I do that too! It’s like I organize my life and sense of time around books and reading (when I’m trying to figure out when something happened, I’ll automatically try to figure out what I was reading at the time – it’s like: “Oh. That was the summer I read An instance of the fingerpost”, or “that was the fall I read Secret History”). It’s like I’m having love affairs with books. ;)
I seldom remember ex-boyfriends as fondly as I do the books though.

ellis 08-09-2004 09:14 AM

What was the name of that place, Mauvais? I'll be certain to avoid it.

Ah... "It's like I'm having love affairs with books." That's IT, Mette! You're so right! I've already told my family that I want to be buried with my favourite books. (they've been told to throw in my Nancy Drews as well) And they are to include a flashlight, extra batteries, and several bags each of Bridge Mixture and Tostitos. Just in case I revive.

You've inspired me to build that bookshelf. I'm going to measure the space and pick up the wood for it today. It's going to hold a lot of my cozy mysteries. I don't put those in my living and dining rooms, because I want people to think that I'm an egg-head who only reads intelligent literature. :lol3: If they were to see my collection of easy-to-read mysteries on the second and third floor, they might think less of me.

mauvaisroux 08-09-2004 09:40 AM

Not sure- but it is really tiny and it seems to just do take-out, there is no seating. It is close to Kowloon market but on the other side of the street- I think it is close to the place where you go for your steamed buns (Gloucester Bakery?)

tikanique 08-09-2004 10:36 AM

I am so upset about Rick James. I saw him on his comeback tour in 98. Must have been one of the best concerts I have ever seen. sigh! I will definitely have to get his new album when they release it.

Tiki

mauvaisroux 08-09-2004 03:16 PM

Yeah, that's too bad :( I liked his music too.
