  • Love Hugh Jackman
Went to see Van Helsing last nite. If your into those kind of movies, it was great. I thought it was great. Special effects & costumes were great. Hugh was great. It was fun.

Last week went to see Man on Fire with Denzel Washington. Also one of my favorites. Thought that was really good also.
  • Finally rented "Love Actually" -- enjoyed it (anything with Alan Rickman is a joy to behold, swoon!) but, admittedly, it could have been a better movie if it had cut down its focus to fewer couples and fleshed out their stories a bit. Hugh Grant shaking his booty as the Prime Minister was a good laugh, though =)

Man on Fire was intense: the gritty, shaky camera work seemed to suit the story well, and the violence made me grimace. It's been a long time since I've sat in a totally packed theater that was completely silent throughout the movie AND while we were filing out.

Speaking of Rickman, I'm really looking forward to the next Harry Potter movie in a few weeks =)
  • I saw Van Helsing this weekend too. It was a fun action no brainer movie, good humour but I didn't care for the cheesy ending.

I can't wait to see the Prisoner of Azkaban - Gary Oldman and Alan Rickman in the same film...swoon!
  • Saw Van Helsing on the weekend too!! I really enjoyed it. Hugh looks fabulous with long hair. There was quite a bit of eye-candy for either sex.

Watched The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise. An amazing movie! Saw Phonebooth as well, with Colin Farrel and Keifer Sutherland. Not bad at all. Better than I expected.
  • underworld - slept through it, hubby thought it was crappish

lost in translation - depressing, but very good. who doesn't love bill murray and whats her name is hot.

the laramie project - older, but it was interesting, also depressing but very good. reminded me of "Paradise Lost" a bit, the documentary about the West Mephis 3 (also a very good movie)

I agree on Chasing holden. I like the guy that's in that, but the movie just didn't go anywhere at all. And it went there at a very slow pace.
  • Went to see "Troy" last night. Actually better than expected, but wasn't expecting much. I don't know the name of the actor who played Prince Hector but I enjoyed watching him alot more than Brad Pitt. But I'm not a big Pitt fan. Too pretty. Don't like guys that are too pretty. When I looked at him in his armor from the waist down, he looked too feminine. Great legs, for a woman. When I see a guy in a skirt, the first thing that comes to mind should not be that he looks feminine. Though I've seen many guys in skirts(kilts, whatever) that look great. ie: Mel Gibson and many of his fellow warriors.
But for a movie that went over 2 1/2 hrs, I did not find myself falling asleep. Nothing deep, nothing to figure out but entertaining enough.
  • I saw Super Size Me last night. Incredibly good. Yes, it's a documentary but with a great sense on humor. I loved it.
  • I LOVED Van Helsin. Midway through the movie I asked my date if he noticed just how beautiful Van Helsin's teeth were and he told me to shut-up. Guys just don't understand. However, if he did understand, we'd have a whole nother set of issues
  • Watched "Mists of Avalon" and if I hadn't read the book it would have been good. Since I read it, and they deviated from it quite a bit - it was very disappointing.
  • Don't you just hate that? If I have read a book, I am very cautious about seeing the movie because it usually is such a MAJOR let down.

    Tiki
  • Yeah - that whole book/movie thing can be a letdown at times. However, sometimes I enjoy seeing how well a movie kept the intent and meaning of a book. Like Harry Potter for example.

Watched "Kill Bill" on the weekend and absolutely loved it. Quentin is a genius.
  • I watched Kill Bill a couple of weekends ago - really enjoyed it although I can see how it might not be everyone's cup of tea. I think you would enjoy this movie if you watch all the same genre movies Quentin Tarantino watches.

Speaking of which we bought a few Asian films on Friday night when we were in China town. Can't wait to watch them!

Re: books into movies...sometimes it work -sometimes it doesn't

I usually find movies that are based on Stephen King books are dismally disapointing and always have a cheap ending. Exceptions to that rule The Shining, The Dead Zone, Stand by Me, Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, and that one about the writer and his "#1 fan" -the name escapes me at the moment. Guess his short stories translate better than the horror ones do.

I have never read the Harry Potter books but I did enjoy the movies.
  • I fell asleep on Kill Bill the other night. I have got to go back and finish watching it. Misery is the name of that movie about the writer and the fan and it scared me so much it took 3 attempts to get through it and I NEVER could watch the part when she caught him out of the room.
  • Misery! I loved that one! For once the victim was a male! Yeah!!! loved the bit when she smashed at his legs (Hobbling I think it is called!). I thought it was funny. For ages afterwards my brother and I called each "dirty bird" which is what she said in the movie a lot. I bet Kathy Bates had fun in that role!
  • Just saw Shrek 2, what an absolute blast! Better than the first one! Now I'm going to pull out the DVD and watch Shrek 1... happy days...
