  • Ok...It's official...

Last night I started to clean out the file cabinets and organize the papers...now...I got a grocery bag FULL of useless recyclable papers and an empty filing cabinet so I can file all of last years papers. Slow but ongoing project...Last night alone took me 5 hours!
  • Hauled out yet another brown bag of useless, outdated papers...AND..I got 4 bookshelves of papers sorted, filed, and thrown away! Now I have room again. Hmm...what to put on the bookshelves now?? Before Hubby stakes his claim.
  • I'm not throwing them out, but I'm moving about 60-80 empty PC game boxes downstairs to the basement. We've run out of room in the TV room. Why am I keeping them? Well, they're just so darned PRETTY! I suppose I should get rid of a few of the games that we're not thrilled with...
  • If you want to get rid of games you should go to Microplay at the corner of Bank and Nepean and try to trade them in for a store credit. They sell both new and used games. My DH goes in there often to trade in games he no longer plays.

Keep in mind if you ever decide to sell some of those games that they will sell for more $$ if you still have the box. So there..ya got a good excuse to keep them.
  • Ooooooh! Thank you, Mauvais and Noodles!
  • Try to kep the instruction pamplets too
  • I got rid of a couch and matching chair.

Also, over the last month or so, I was inspired by the TV show "Clean Sweep" and have been purging all over the house. I got rid of almost ALL my magazines (donated them to the library) and went through all my clothes and got rid of a huge amount. My sister, mom and girlfriends are happy.

In fact I bought three Rubbermaid bins and labeled them - throw - keep - donate. Of course, my house is a big huge mess because of it. Luckily we didn't have Christmas at our place.

    Gotta finish though.......

  • I keep everything so neat at work I don't have time to have things neat at home.

Do you know my nativity is still up?!?!?

Oh, yes. Those never come out of the box. I prefer to "wing it" when I'm playing a new game.

Teufelchen, that just reminded me of trading clothes with MY mom and sister. And made me think, "Wouldn't it be hilarious if a sibling was on this thread and you didn't even know."

Sandi, darling, just leave the darned thing up. You'll be all ready for next Christmas.
  • I'm a book hound....I think I'm obligated to keep every book I've ever owned, even if I didn't LIKE the damned thing! I finally unloaded a HEAP of them, including a set of encyclopedias. That was like throwing out a relative, but I figure with the Internet, that stuff is horribly outdated. I donated the entire mess to a newly-opened Senior Center.

I've found some more books that need to be donated, too. I feel like crying, my husband will probably party until dawn, LOL! We've moved those books all over the USA, when he was in the military!!

    Peace and taxable donations,

  • VOW, I can relate to the book thing. I have a couple of thousand books... I LOVE my books! I HAVE got to point where I refuse to give shelf room to a book I don't like. Mainly because I'm running out of room for my GOOD books!
  • It feels like a sacrilege to throw away books, doesn't it?

I spent my weekend cleaning out my grandparents' house (both recently passed away), and we cleared out literally tons of garbage and unusable old things. The dumpster we rented looked half the size of the house.

My grandparents had some fabulous rare old books, but they kept most of them in their basement, so they're mildewy and awful. I'd love to be able to keep or sell them, but I have no idea what I could do to clean them up.
You book hounds have any idea?
  • Snack, I'm sorry about your grandparents.
Re: the books... unfortunately, I don't think anything can be done with them. It's too bad they've been damaged.
We're going to do the dumpster thing when DH's Mom "leaves us". It's scary the things some people keep.
  • The clutter thing is horrible isn't it. I think a lot of people who lived through the depression years learned to keep everything just in case they needed it later. This was the case in my family. I just wanted everyone to know that

I finally put away my nativity!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also sorted old photos and trashed the out takes. Throwing away even the bad photos is hard to do. I also eliminated all the paper garbage and catelogs!
