Den, I'm glad your son felt better after watching the movie. My son has Tourette's and he couldn't wait to see Matchstick Men after he saw the trailer and Nicholas Cage had tics. He smiled and looked at me each time he tic'd.
I'm sorry your son gets picked on at school. I'm homeschooling Cody after this year so it doesn't happen to him. I might be too overprotective, but would rather spare him some of the pain I went through. (chubby girl with limited income in a school of rich cheerleaders) Oooh, perish the thoughts!
No Ellis, she didn't make that one up It stars Bruce Campbell as an aging Elvis who teams up with John F. Kennedy who had his brain transplanted into a black man-they live in a nursing home and have to defeat a mummy who is terrorizing the nursing home ... I'm planning to go see it
Sorry Ro...I hated all of the Poltergeist series including the first. But I will agree with you on Darkness Falls-the way it was shot was that something would catch the corner of your eye but you could never really see-I find that kind of thing really unnerving.
I really liked the updated version of 13 Ghosts too.
Jen-Middle school kids sure can be mean!! (I was teased too.) I admire you for deciding to home school Cody. I just don't have the patience!!! I'm hoping next year will be better for my guy. High school has been GREAT for his older brother, and hopefully it will be for him too. Isn't it great when you can find movies or books that help them out?
Mauvais-THAT'S THE ONE!!! Sounds like a lot of fun!!
Ellis-YUP!! Elvis never died, he just switched places with an Elvis impersonator!!
Oooh, I read something about Bubba in the newspaper. It sounds like just the weird kind of movie I'd like.
We saw Kill Bill. I've been wanting to, but Rob doesn't like violent movies. I told him Rolling Stone said 'violent but beautiful' and that somebody else said it wasn't that bad. So he went. And I was wrong. Eww! I never saw so much whacking (swords and limbs, you dirty girls!) in all my life! I was thinking the whole time...nahhh, I'm not going to see Volume 2. Then the last minute of the movie happens, and now I can't stand it unless I see part 2! Dang!
Jen - You would LOVE Bubba Ho-Tep. I mean, not only is the cutest lead actor in the world playing Elvis but it's such a fun movie. Go see it!
Kill Bill was fun but none of the usual witty dialogue from a Tarentino movie. Bummer. I did like how campy it was and how it stayed true to the whole Kung-Fu genre. But I also think it could have been shortened into one movie. Oh well. Thank goodness for student discounts.
I was suppose to go to a special pre-screening of the Alien Director's Cut release (the cool things you get to do when you're a film student) But the fires caused it to be delayed. Such a major bummer.
I also plan to see Alien! I'd love to see more of the good ones back on the big screen again. Some movies just aren't the same on tv. I've always had a secret desire to buy an old theater and renovate it, and show classic movies. Can you imagine going to the movies to see the Wizard of Oz, The Birds, or even Attack of the Killer Tomatoes??
Oh, Suzanne! That would be SO cool! And then we could all invite ourselves over for a show.
We actually have an old theatre in Ottawa that shows classics. The Mayfair. It's so cool... it's really old and decorative in there. They show stuff like Gone with the Wind, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Creature From the Black Lagoon... etc. Plus newer stuff.
Thanks for the movie link... going to check it out...
Suzanne what a wonderful idea.....we had a theater like that here in town you could watch a show for .99 cents. It was a beautiful old place! naturally they decided to tear it down for additional parking for the restaurant next door. Such a shame I am boycotting the restaurant hoping they go out of business, although it won't bring the theater back it makes me feel better.
I can't wait to see Bubbahotep! I love Bruce Campbell and actually got to meet him once and I have a picture of him and I together to prove it He is really funny and nice in person too!
Ellis- I love the Mayfair and the Bytowne Cinema too! The Bytowne shows a lot of foreign films, Independant Canadian films and films that do the festival circuits but don't get big screen releases. They show a lot of films we wouldn't otherwise get a chance to see
Sflake- that has happened here too- it is so sad to lose an old cinema like that
We used to have an old theater here, the Majestic, and I have very fond memories of the old place. Back in the late 60s early 70s, which of course I barely remember, lol, we would get to see movies for bottle caps. Did anyone else do that? The old place was ancient at that time already, but I recall the red seats, the creak of the wood floors, the fancy balcony and ornate woodwork. And of course the rats that ran across the floor It closed down in the late 70s or early 80s. I remember a big "save the Majestic" campaign in the 90s but it failed, and the old place was torn down to make room for a parking lot. I do like the new ones, and it's always nice to go somewhere clean and brand spanking new. But nothing can match the charm of the old theaters. And the big screens really were BIG, unlike the smaller screens that have to fit in a cineplex.
Oh, that reminds me, IMAX is going to show Matrix Revolutions! That would be an experience, if you are a Matrix fan, of course.
