  • Chervata - I have the same problem! Slim on top, small chested and all my weight is in the butt/thigh area and always lose the weight on top before anything leaves the bottom
  • Aphil, you mentioned belly dance...can you tell me a little about it, I have always been interested, and have heard its good excersize... : )
  • Mauvais and I have a thread in the exercise forum for bellydancing! Check it out~

  • Kool...thanks Aphil~
  • Speaking of size, this is SOOOO depressing -- before I started dieting at all, I went to the store and got a pair of jeans. They were size 13, and they started getting loose on me. Last week, after losing 17 pounds, I went to the store to get a new pair. I thought I must be down at least a size or two -- I STILL had to get a size 13. What's up with that???? I lost 17 pounds, yet I still have to wear the same size??? Talk about depressing!
  • I'd like to be a size 6 all the time. I am currently ranging from a size 10 to a 12. I have quite a few new size 8 articles in my closet. I could go shopping in there if I'd just loose weight!!!

HarmonyBreeze: those 13's were probably junior size? At 148 you should NOT have to wear a 13. Junior sizes are really messed up compared to 15 years ago. I don't know where overweight teen girls shop?!?! If someone at 148 needs a 13 then what size are these bigger girls wearing? Weird. Glad I'm not a teenager. Too much body image pressure.

    170/150/120
  • I think that totally depends on your height and your fitness level.
I wear a size 16 right now, and at my height I usually don't get down to a size 13 until I am in the 150's....I am pear shaped, so by that time I am pretty thin up top...I don't get into an 11/12 until I am about in the 140's.
Height can plkay a big part in this too...a 5'2 woman at 150 is going to wear a different size than a 5'8 woman at 150.
Your fitness level is also a factor-if you strength train and have a lower body fat percentage, you are going to be a smaller size than a less fit woman at the same height and weight.
Don't focus so much on how many pounds you have lost when wanting to wear a smaller size...I had to lose over 20 pounds before I went from an 18 to a 16. Concentrate instead on a balanced plan of strength training and cardio and getting that exercise in each day-and when your body fat drops and your muscles tighten...then you will get into a smaller size much more quickly.

  • Yes, it was a junior size, I only can seem to find cute styles in the Juniors department. Thanks for the great advice, Aphil -- I am doing strength training and cardio 3x a week, and I'm trying to motivate myself to do something on the off days as well. I go to my mom's M,W,F to use her elliptical or treadmill and the bow flex, but when I'm at home by myself, I'm a lot less likely to do anything. Even though I have two new exercise DVD's... but, hey, tomorrow's a new day, maybe I'll get on it. :-D
  • I would like to have aaa cup breasts.

on bottom It depends on what clothes....
if I lose to 150 lb I would be wearing size 34.
  • Whenever I am in the mall I always glance longingly at the

"SOPHISTICATED & PETITE" store. The women walking in and out could easily

    swap clothes with Minnie Mouse

I'll take ANY size they have in there!!!

It would be a nice change from LANE BRYANT & AVENUE SHOPS
  • I'd like to be back at a size 7, but I will be thrilled with a 10!! Pants size that is. On top, I don't have much of a choice. Even if I was skin and bones I still have the knockers so I have to wear between L & M sized shirts. Pfooey!! But it will be nice to be able to go buy Victorias Secrets bras & undies again!! When I get down below 160, I lose just enough weight in the chest area to be able to wear their stuff and I like those satin bras.
  • Sizes are really weird, anyway. Here's a comparison of size 12 dimensions that I got from 3 different store websites: Old Navy, Gap, and Banana Republic. I think all 3 of these companies are actually one corporation, BTW, they just have slightly different product mixes and price spreads. Again, these are all size 12's:

Old Navy: waist 31.0", hips 41.5"
    The Gap : waist 30.5", hips 40.5"
    Bana.Rep: waist 30.5", hips 41.5"

And just for comparison, here's 2 other popular retailers, size 14:

    Ralph Lauren : waist 31.5", hips 41.5"
Tommy Hilfiger: waist 31.5", hips 42.5"

So Old Navy calls their jeans a size 12, and Ralph Lauren calls almost the same measurements a size 14. Guess which retailer is making higher sales numbers and more profits? Right you are. It's called "vanity sizing" and it's all over the industry. But hey, it gets me too, every time. I've now got a pair of size 12 Old Navy jeans in my closet.

You can have my lower-sized jeans when you can rip them from my cold, dead thighs...
  • Interesting numbers you got from the sites, Seek. Now I know why I can't fit into practically anybody's jeans. 30" waist and 35" hips! I can wear a size 4 if they are low cut, but anything with the waist at waist level (what waist?) is a disaster! Funny, the only jeans that really fit me are Polo (Ralph Lauren) Saturday Jeans, because they are low slung. My 4's are pretty comfy, but only in that brand. My goal is to get my waist in proportion, but that may mean beefing UP my hips and shoulders and going for a larger size. Ick. I don't mind building up my shoulders a bit, but hips????

At 5'3", if I put on 3 pounds, I'm in a larger size, BTW.

    Mel
5'3" 137 lbs. of mostly muscle.
  • Mel: Didn't somebody mention you can get jeans custom made on the Land's End web site? I think they are about 50 bucks or so.... can't remember. Aphil would know, she's a professional seamstress.
  • just give me a good ol' size 8. that would make me happy. of course the size 14's that are getting saggy butt are nice from the durn size 18/20's .
