Alternachicks at the movies
Hey, has anybody seen any good flicks lately or any of the latest summer releases?
I recently saw 28 days later - really enjoyed it! It was billed as a zombie movie but it wasn't really. It reminded me of a lot of films like The Omega Man and some of those old British Sci-Fi films. We may go see the new Terminator movie next week or maybe Pirates of the Caribean. |
We love the movies but leaving thursday for a week long vacation so the last we saw was matrix II and I LOOOOOOOOOVED IT! mainly because after DH and I sat and analyized it, it made so much more sense and by itself it was a great movie but it wasnt created to stand out in its own right.. its the middle piece of a bigger puzzle. :)
We named our baby after Trinity in the movie (shes 15months old now). I cant wait for III to come out. |
I watched "The Rules of Attraction" the other day. It was a lot better than I thought it would be.
"Animatrix" is interesting, we are in the process of watching it right now. Lately we've been renting A LOT of Anime though, so I haven't had the chance to see any real movies. |
We are going to see The League of Extraordiary Gentlemen on Saturday...can't wait! Mmmmm Sean Connery...if I was 30 years older or he was 30 years younger  he still looks handsome!
|
Pirates of the Caribbean
I loved it. I love action and I like pirate movies. Add Orlando Bloom, an excellent performance by Johnny Depp, and a hot chick and I haven't had this kind of fun since Cuthroat Island.:p
Watched Phonebooth. It was okay. There was some moral truths there but watching a guy stand in a phonebooth. Yawn. Punch Drunk Love. It's been awhile since someone really used the cinematography and subtleness to tell a story. So I enjoyed it, despite the emotional fry out I felt afterwards. Miss Chris:cool: |
Went to see the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen last night - it was pretty good but a little slow, not a great plot but still enjoyable :)
|
I went and saw T3 this weekend
The action was good, but this movie is way over-hyped. Plus not be a plot killer but when Linda Hamilton carves NO FATE on the table top in T2 that meant something, in this movie they rip it all away. There is another part of me as a scientist that says linear time would make time travel more probable, but then there is the Heisenberg Uncertaintity Principle;) I don't know maybe I missed something when I fell asleep:lol:
Miss Chris:cool: |
Chris I loved Pirates too! I wanna go into the city to see it again on a real big normal movie screen. I saw it last night on a screen that was 50 years old. But it was awesome. I think we would make good wenches, i got the cleavage for it! I want me a pirate. Urg!
|
I saw Bruce Almighty, that was funny as ****, I was falling out of my chair laughing. I saw it a few weeks ago, I don't know if it's still out.
|
I have planned for a party next sunday for the release of Tomb Raider 2(don't recall the second half of the name) but am really excited about it. It looks grat from the previews I have seen, and I hope it lives up to my expectations..
anybody had a sneak preview of this? I also want to see Johnny English. I love Rowan Atkinson - he is so funny and pretty talented. any opinions on this flick? I saw LXG and did not care for it. The vampire, Dorian and the ship were the only half good p[arts, but it is just not my style. Dh wanted to see it, so it was more of his thing. We bought The Ring which I lovedand it scared DH.Had I seen the Japanese version first I might have had a fright. I love horror flicks but don't find many that scare me (including this one, but it was pretty good.) |
TR2: The Cradle of Life
It will be the last fun thing I do before going out of town for the weekend. I love Lara Croft and Angelina Jolie for that matter ;-) Miss Chris |
Miss Chris-Hope YOU have fun too!! Where are you going?
|
Not till Friday and nobody get excited I am going to Altoona, IA.
Miss Chris |
HEY! At least you are GOING somewhere!!! The only traveling I'll be doing is driving the kids around!!!!!
|
Hey
Wasn't Johnny Depp just amazing in Pirates?? I swear that man looks hot even with missing teeth. Johnny can board my ship anyday. Hey, I heard he modeled his character and mannerisms for this role on... get this... Keith Richards!
|
He was awesome Sojo! I went in saw it 2x. And I am afraid I found him sexier as a pirate than I did in 21 Jump Street! My age is showing.
Been junking out at the video store. Watched Final Destination 2 last night. It was alot of fun. Also hit How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, my hubby and I were rolling. Couln't help but joke about Princess Sophie when we hit the hay. Miss Chris |
I did that to my hubbie too Chris! :)
|
Johnny English
My son and I thought it was hilarious but we were the only ones falling off our seats with laughter. Maybe were just weird so if your weird too you'll probably enjoy Rowan in this one;)
Miss Chris:p |
We liked it too Chris!! Not THE BEST movie, but funny and a lot of fun!!!! Hardly any people in the audience which I really didn't understand.
|
hrm. i will have to rent that. hubby and i laughed our asses off at "American Psycho" and no one else in the theater did. That was weird. I still say it was supposed to be a comedy, darn it.
Watched the pirate movie. Mmm.. Johnny Depp. Yummy. Also watched Gangs of New York - good but too long and i slept through the end, and didn't really think that whats-her-face should have been in it. Bad accents all around. Watched two good ones though White Oleander and Igby Goes Down. Both rentals now but were really good. I liked Igby, it reminded me of Catcher in the Rye which is one of my favorite books. And White Oleander was surprising, thought it was going to be a major chick movie, and was surprised. I did think they wrapped it up in a nice little bow at the end though. I hate it when movies do that. That's all fer now. I'm sure I'll have more soon. I love Netflix. |
The Cradle of Life
Well Tombraider 2: The Cradle of Life was definitely better than the first one, but still ran into some of the same pacing problems, along with long shots, and location moving. I still had a lot of fun and felt more into the story. Hope you ladies enjoy :D

We just watched an awesome film called "Equilibrium"!
It is an action movie starring Christian Bale and Taye Digs. It is set in the "future" in a society where emotion is prohibited and all things like music, art, and books are banned. The two title characters are part of an elite team of law enforcement that seizes items that can evoke emotion in people and destroys them. Anyone caught committing a crime of the senses is tried and executed. The whole of society is controlled by a drug that prohibits people from feeling emotions and that they have to take by law. Shades of Farenheight 451 but taken to a whole new level! If you liked the Matrix you will probably enjoy this one. Lots of intrigue, commentary on society and censorship, and wicked fight scenes! Two thumbs up in my book :cb: I will be buying this for my DVD collection! |
WOW!! I'd sure have problems in that society!! Might not be so FAT though!!!
Well.....I might eat just as much out of BOREDOM!!!! I want to see that one Mauvais; thanks for the suggestion. |
The food looked pretty boring too Den- so I guess you would be SOL!
|
Went to see Seabiscuit the other night. Highly recommended.
|
Mauvais-Probably would be all to the good!!! I bet sex was wrecked too though, huh?
Karen-Thanks! I've been curious about that one!! |
I got "equilibruim" in the mail the day you posted and never got around to writing in here. It was really really really good. I also thought it was a great mix of Farenheit and Matrix. I love Christian Bale and dare i say he would have made a good NEO as well. I wonder if he went out for the part.
Lately we also saw the "Animatrix" and I watched "How to lose a guy in 10 days" it was cute but kinda bla. I didn't think it was a very good movie, but it was amusing. sort of a brainless movie. I enjoy things that make you think more. I am starting to get antsy over LOTR though. I can not wait much longer. I am also getting antsy for the next Harry Potter, now that i have read all the books. |
Yeah, lizzi- I can't wait for those next installments!
We are going to see Jason v Freddy on Friday  not what I call cinematic gems but fun anyway - DH had been a Jason fan forever and no matter how bad the movies get he still wants to see them! I am really looking forward to seeing Underworld when it comes out. |
Just watched Comic Book Villians, that was pretty funny. I enjoyed it. Kinda dark and fantastical, but in a good way. I really like all the actors in it, especially Michael Rappaport and Donal Logue. If you want a movie to watch just to laugh and not think much about this is a good one.
|
That is a good flick, I like OMG what is the name of the overly akward skinny guy.......DJ Qualls from The New Guy(also a good movie, Ilike Eddie Griffin too!)
We have been Britcom (Yes, Minister) and Sci-Fi Bound the 4th season of DS9 is out and it truly gets better EVERY season! Miss Chris |
Johnny Depp was awesome in Pirates.
28 day leter was great! (it was by the guy who did trainspotting) I got Comic Book Villians for christmas and it was a great movie. (I own a comic shop, so i thought some parts were hilarious) |
How cool is that? You own a comic shop! in Jersey nontheless. Isn't Kevin Smith there?
I use to collect comics but the addiction is just too much, once the bill got over $300 a month, it was time for treatment. What does Brad Pitt say in Fight Club ,"The things you own, own you." Nuff said, Miss Chris |
Kevin Smith's shop is about an hour and a half away. I have been there a couple of times. It is pretty neat because the new store has props and stuff. I have met him a couple of time and most of all the casts from the movies. Jason Lee was the best though!
It is true about the Fight Club Quote....For me it's more like Ed Norton with the IKEA catalog! |
Lizziness- you weren't the only one laughing at parts of American Psycho, DH and I and are friends were too!
We got to see the uncut version in the theatre in Canada and when we saw the part that was cut out in the American version we were thinking what the he** :?: There was no reason for that particular scene to be cut - guess you can show someone running naked and chasing someone with a chainsaw but you can't show certain sex scenes  Johnny Depp is one of those guys who is kind of an oddball but still sexy no matter what film he is in  |
I finally saw Finding Nemo. It was very cute. We had plans to go have sushi later, needless to say, I couldn't eat raw fish afterwards. :)
I too am a comic book feind. I like the odd-ball comics though Kill your Boyfriend and Lenore, Gloom Cookie, etc. |
OooooH - I love Lenore and Gloom Cookie! I even have a Lenore doll that DH bought for me
|
Lenore is so cute...(even though she is dead..hehe...)
so I guess I shouldn't bother seeing American Psycho huh? I am going to see 28 Days later again though.... |
As for American Psycho - The rating system down here is weird. Basically you can have a certian amount of whatever in your film to be considered R - and they probably had to scale it down a bit so that they wouldn't give it an NC-17 rating - because those movies usually bomb in the states. So they probably scaled down what they thought they could get rid of in order to be an R and still leave the important stuff in.
We just watched "About Schmidt" last night. Talk about a depressing movie. Ugh. It was very slow moving and kind of like watching real life where everything is painful and akward. Plus Kathy Bates naked. Not tacky naked, but it was kind of a surprise. Wasn't expecting it. Hubby was wounded- *L* - but he enjoyed the movie more than i did. now I'll be off soon to watch some bizzare anime where a boy wants to go to an all girls school so he dresses like a girl and then becomes a gym teacher?? oy. crazy anime, |
I definitely found "About Schmidt" to be a fascinating movie - very true to life and although depressing, good acting, great script....
"Frida" was fabulous. Great performances and great story about a very intriguing woman. Interesting choices in what the stories they chose to share. April Marie |
About Schmidt is depressing, but doesn't Omaha look good? LOL I have to admit watching the movie was fun, because he didn't go anywhere I haven't been including the litte gas station on the interstate on the other side of Lincoln. There he was using the pay phone and I am thinking about the sweet people who work there that let me park my car out back to take a nap on a drive down to OK. Wait thats not really on the way to Denver from Omaha is it? Well he drove out of his way alot in that movie. Living in Dundee going to Millard for ice cream, he must have been really bored. For that matter driving from Dundee to go to Bakers out by my house is pretty ******ed too. But I guess thats movies.
