Yay! I exercised today!

Good morning all!

I did a ton of walking on the weekend and now my calves hurt :(
Ah, well, no pain- no gain :dizzy:

ellis 05-12-2003 11:02 AM

Workout at the Y this morning! :cb:

Aradia 05-12-2003 02:43 PM

I did a 10 min bike ride this morning. Going to try for another this evening.

mauvaisroux 05-12-2003 10:56 PM

Walked to WW and then home again :)

Lidian 05-13-2003 10:49 AM

Ran 50 minutes Saturday, 35 on Sunday, 54 today. (All of which burned off about one French chocolate mint out of the box, ha ha!)

ellis 05-13-2003 12:39 PM

40 minute walk to get my coffee beans this morning. :D

Amyjo01 05-13-2003 12:46 PM

25 minute walk/jog this AM before coming home and starting to get ready for Job Search.

Amy

Amyjo01 05-14-2003 05:48 PM

Well what do you know, didn't know I had it in me :) I walked again today... would have to say it felt great except for the pain in my ankle and hip from the impact of jogging yesterday. Well DD and I did another 35 minutes today and I am excited... maybe I will shoot for 2 more times this week.

Amy

Lidian 05-15-2003 09:46 AM

Well, I am going back to walking instead of running - not only because of the warmer weather coming, but my right knee has been bothering me on and off since I started running again - added to an old ankle sprain (right side also), I think I had better switch to lower impact fast walking (I can walk a 12-13 minute mile when I get going, and I love to walk). I feel the knee a LOT going up and down stairs, and do not want to cause any more damage!

So I am going to buy a decent pedometer this weekend and start aiming for 10,000 steps (abt 5 miles) most days. I'll let you know!

Lidian

ellis 05-15-2003 09:55 AM

Lidian, I'm so sorry you have to stop running. I always envied you when I read your posts... I used to LOVE running, but weight and deteriorating joints have taken their toll... :(
The pedometer is a GREAT idea!

Lidian 05-16-2003 01:19 PM

I loved my old pedometer, Ellis, but then it broke and I never could find the right sort of replacement battery and so on...I am sorry to give up running, I do like it a lot...DH said maybe I could do it gently once in a while, and maybe I can. I WAS planning to stop when it got all hot and humid though.

I also had a hip joint issue on the SAME right side after both pregnancies - the doctor said it probably loosened after delivery & THAT finally cleared up though every once in a great while I feel it. Thing is, being fortysomething & not twentysomething, and all these little right-leg issues...well! Course when I WAS twentysomething I didn't WANT to run. When I was at U of T I ran around King's College Circle once with DH (then DB!) and it was about 35 degrees out (and 11 pm!) and I hated it! HE used to run occasionally, little 7 mile jogs with his pals, and thought I would like to try (ha ha).

I have been working in my yard. 2 hours Monday, 3 on Tuesday, 2 Wednesday, 4.5 Thursday and 1 today. I mean WORKED! I dug up half the front yard with a shovel by myself!!!! I then seeded and raked. I have dug up saplings that I didn't want. I put in bushes and shrubs. I planted flowers and weeded and pruned. I have mowed and weed wacked! Tomorrow I work on my veggie garden! This is harder than walking or the gym but a whole lot more fun!

Sojourner 05-17-2003 01:52 AM

Yup...

Flower, I feel your pain. I have been averaging three to four hours a day out in my gardens... hard work but I'm sooooo addicted. :flow1:

ellis 05-17-2003 08:33 AM

Worked out at the Y yesterday. :cb:

Lidian 05-17-2003 06:28 PM

Walked today 53 minutes & got me a nice lil pedometer!

Lidian

ellis 05-17-2003 07:00 PM

Lidian, may I ask what you paid for it? The ones I've seen are terribly expensive, and I'd really like to get one.

Lidian 05-18-2003 07:38 PM

Ellis, it is an Oregon Scientific - Shoppers Drug Mart had them for $22 on sale (they sez) from $34, and I have seen them on line at Drugstore.com (must be this is the drugstore official model!). It seems to work fine, and it oval and yellow in a earth toned (beige/brick red/aqua) box. Very groovy!

I did 20,000 steps today (will probably do about 2 tomorrow!). Overenthusiastic for day one, as usual!

Lidian

ellis 05-18-2003 08:32 PM

OH MY GOSH!! Thank you, Lidian! I'm so excited! The ones I've seen are all about 80 bucks! I'm going to get over to Shoppers on Tuesday!
THANK YOU!!
Can't wait to count my steps.
Congrats on the 20 000. ouch!

Lidian 05-19-2003 10:11 AM

Yay Ellis! You are going to love this pedometer - I feel like I have a new toy and it motivates me so much more than when I didn't have one (I had a cheapo one from Zeller's last year but it had irreplaceable batteries, made by Ballys Fitness - Oregon is MUCH MUCH better). I am feeling it this morning but will go out later. Can't do that with running - I always needed at least a day to lie around feeling grouchy. Let me know when you get one and how it goes!

I reckon Shoppers will have the batteries etc when needed though it says in the (very clear) instructions that the batteries should last for 1 year (I assume that if you use the radio it will be less than a year but I am not using it). I found it in with the health-related massager-type things...it was a bit hard to find as it had been at the end of an aisle and they moved it, but then it usually takes me a long time to find things there.

I read once that drugstores for women are like Canadian Tire for men, which certainly is true in this family. DH needs another garden implement/drill bit/chunk o' wood like I need more lip gloss or hair color (actually I do need the hair color) --

Lidian

ellis 05-19-2003 04:33 PM

It has a RADIO!? Goodness! How about a toenail clipper?
If I use it properly, a year should be good for me. I'd better damned well have lost this weight by next year... my life is passing me by...
DH says there's a Shoppers here that specializes in orthopedic and other speciality stuff, etc, so I should be able to get one there if not at one of the regular stores.
Hopefully I'll get one tomorrow, Lidian!

Oh, and I exercised today. :D Worked out at the Y with DH! :cb:

Then I ate a bag of Bridge Mix and a small bag of Doritos

squeaker 05-19-2003 05:48 PM

Went for a 20 minute walk at lunch. Also with all of this talk about pedometers, I went and got one. I had wanted one for a while, just never got around to it. Got a cheap one from Target. We will see how it goes. :)

ellis 05-19-2003 06:15 PM

Oh for cryin' out loud! Okay, let's have a contest. (I think Lidian's already won... 20 000 steps... holy crow!)
Wait until I get mine...

Lidian 05-19-2003 06:28 PM

I don't think I am going to be able to do anything LIKE 20,000 again! I think that is why the pedometers are near all the heating pads etc at our Shoppers cuz I am going to need one (as well as a biweekly massage/spa treatment, ha ha)...Unfortunately the pedometer's special points begin and end with the radio - wish it could answer the phone, take the girls to school, do the grocery shopping for me! Hey, maybe someday they'll invent one to go out and do the walk for me too! (Just kidding, of course...walking is good! I walked but less than yesterday, and now I am SITTING DOWN. Soon I will be lying down and no one here's gonna stop me...until a DD needs something that is).

Lidian

ellis 05-20-2003 10:28 AM

I got a pedometer!! It was the only one they had... 20 bucks. It's an Omron, but no radio. It's so tiny!!
I'm pretty excited. Just in the process of converting my weight in kilograms...

and the race is on...

squeaker 05-20-2003 10:49 AM

I will let you girls know how I am doing, but I am not even remotely a competative person. Unless it is wrestling/tickling thing, then I need to win. (be the person tickling not being tickled) :)

ellis 05-20-2003 11:29 AM

Don't worry, Squeak... I was joking. I'm not competative either. But like you, I MUST win at the wrestling/tickling thing. ;)
besides, I don't think we stand a chance of getting anywhere NEAR Lidian's 20 000 steps. snort

ellis 05-20-2003 11:32 AM

Oh, by the way... I just did a 45 minute walk. WITHOUT the pedometer... it was still in the bag. :)

Lidian 05-20-2003 12:38 PM

Ellis, I'm so glad you got one! There is some good stuff about walking with a pedometer on Prevention.com by the way --

Squeak, I am not a competitive person either - the very thought makes me feel nervous (and so do a lot of other things but that is another story...) & oh good golly gosh - and I go to pieces when tickled!

Lidian

squeaker 05-20-2003 12:59 PM

I am very ticklish, which is why that is the only thing I have to win at. :) But considering I out-weigth the person I tickle, it is easy to pin him down and win.

I get very nervous also, Lidian. It is good none of us are competative. It makes the whole pedomiter thing less intmidating also. :)

I know Ellis, no way am I getting around 20,000. I sit at a desk all day. But I am up to 3,000 from this morning. I was just curious how many steps I do take a day.

ellis 05-20-2003 01:14 PM

Thanks for your encouragement, Lidian!
I'm checking out the Prevention site right now.
I'm going to stick to my regular schedule today (no Y today) and see how pathetic my lifestyle is. And then improve on it. :cb:

Hey, good going, Squeak!!

squeaker 05-20-2003 01:19 PM

It is really just from all the bathroom runs I have to do from drinking so much water.

Ruthxxx 05-20-2003 05:13 PM

I bought a pedometer about a year ago but the damned thing is black with black printing and I can't figure out how to set it.
Anyhow, yesterday I spent 4 whole hours digging and another 3 hours today so that's my exercise. Have you any idea how hard and heavy Leeds County clay can be? Oy!

Sojourner 05-20-2003 11:09 PM

More gardening...

Three hours planting and digging in the gardens. :D

ellis 05-21-2003 08:37 AM

I'm at just over 1000 steps from getting the kids off to school. Planning on a walk with a friend today... I'm still in the experimental stages with this pedometer, but I love it!!
:)

Lidian 05-21-2003 11:20 AM

I am running up and down the stairs today (with pedometer on) as eldest DD is in bed with a cold & a Nancy Drew mystery, & I am bringing her cold drinks etc.

Nancy & her friends always have the time & money to go off to England or NYC or Carmel, where they are in the Nancy that I am reading. I was in Carmel once on a trip - but unlike Nancy Drew I was 6 weeks pregnant with eldest DD, with a cold (& couldn't take any medicine) & lay around in the motel a lot. And did not solve any mysteries either.

Lidian

ellis 05-21-2003 02:01 PM

Heh heh.

I've just ordered in a bunch of Enyd Blyton's at the library. I can't wait to read them again. "The Sea of Adventure". "The Circus of Adventure". "The Famous Five"...
Cozy. :D

Okay, I'm up to 5888 steps. It's ummm, 2 pm.

mauvaisroux 05-21-2003 03:20 PM

Walk to work, walk at lunch time, walk home :)

RachieD 05-21-2003 07:20 PM

Anyone have any suggestions for excersize for me, I work Full Time and go to College Full time, so my time is very limited, I have tried getting up an extra hour early...but I am always so tired, I just cant seem to maintain that schedule...any suggestions??

Thankx!

squeaker 05-21-2003 08:27 PM

one 20 min. walk at lunch time, then another hour walk with my sister & the baby. And today I forgot my pedometer. :p

ellis 05-21-2003 09:14 PM

Rachie, I've just become a pedometer addict, so my advice to you is... GET A PEDOMETER!! :D
You'll at least know how energetic you've been during the day.
I love keeping count of my steps!!

Okay, it's 9 pm and I'm at 7922 steps. MUCH better than yesterday!
